21.01.2022 On Sunday 5th November the Hoskingtown-Rossi Rural Fire Brigade will be conducting a live fire exercise at 132 Rossi Road, Rossi, commencing at 10am and finishing by 1pm. There will be some smoke visible from this very small patch of fire during the exercise.

20.01.2022 On Tuesday night on the ABC was the first of three episodes of Big Weather - well worth watching for facts and tips on fires, floods and storms. (The filming for this show began last year before the horrific fire season we had) Here is a clip about cars and fire.

20.01.2022 The Official Fire Season has Started The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period runs from 1st October 2020 to 31st March 2021. If you are planning to light a fire during this time you will need a permit. You will need to contact the Lake George Fire Control Centre in Queanbeyan on 61280600 who will organise a Hoskinstown-Rossi RFB Permit Issuing Officer to visit.... We cannot issue a permit over the phone. We are required to undertake an onsite inspection, so we will need some notice. Our Permit Officers will visit you and discuss your proposed burn and then all being well, we can issue a permit. Please don’t leave your request to the last minute, as it needs to get into the RFS’s system by 12 midday on Fridays if you intend to burn over the weekend. The preferred method of notifying the RFS at least 24 hours notice is to visit the RFS website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify, a new online portal that gives NSW residents the ability to quickly and easily notify fire services when they’re planning to use fire on their property. You will need to quote the permit number that comes with your permit. Permits have a series of conditions stating what you need to do and in particular who you need to notify. Most people are aware that you need to give at least 24 hours notice to your neighbours and the RFS before you light up. If you live within 8kms of a National Park or State Forest, those authorities will also need to be notified.

16.01.2022 Sunday 29 November - VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER Very hot and windy - take care with any machinery that could cause sparks such as slashers and mowers. Have fire fighting equipment such as water and hoses nearby. Have you made a plan for you, your family and property in case of fire? Will you stay and defend or leave early? Have you planned for your animals? What will you take with you? Do you have a storz fitting on your tank to allow for easy access to your water supply? Do you ...have a pump, hoses etc? Do you know how to use them? What about the others in your family? Look at the NSW RFS website - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan

15.01.2022 Tuesday 17 November - HIGH FIRE DANGER Ensure your animals have water and shade.

14.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

14.01.2022 12 H-R RFB members as well as others from neighbouring brigades have been completing a First Aid course run by David and Sarah in the Hoskinstown Hall. 13.01.2022 Today is equipment day at the H-R RFB Station. Trucks will be thoroughly checked, equipment repaired and everything readied for the upcoming fire season. Fortunately the trucks are more up to date than this... (1905 fireman’s bike)

13.01.2022 12 months ago today three lightening strikes started the North Black Range Fire which rapidly spread and covered a huge area right on our doorstep. The Hoskingtown-Rossi RFB was quickly on the scene but the drought, high temperatures and winds meant this fire would be a danger to local communities for many weeks. Many Forbes Creek residents evacuated and those in Hoskinstown, Rossi and rural properties enacted their fire plans. Many local Brigades as well as Brigades from around NSW, ACT and also New Zealand fought the fire in difficult terrain. It was a long and arduous campaign that required a huge community effort to contain. Thankyou to all the Firies, local landholders, community members, NSW Parks, Forestry and others who supported us during this difficult time. (Map from 1 December)
