23.01.2022 The Forbes Creek Bridge replacement has started (yippee) with the bypass being put in to the lower side. The new bridge (all new, two lane bridge) will be usable by Christmas although heavy trucks including fire trucks will probably still need to use the bypass as the bridge is unlikely to be completely finished until the new year. Please drive slowly and carefully through Forbes Creek as there are vehicles and machinery in the area.

21.01.2022 Monday 16 November - HIGH FIRE DANGER Take care when mowing or slashing - sparks cause fires.

21.01.2022 On Sunday 5th November the Hoskingtown-Rossi Rural Fire Brigade will be conducting a live fire exercise at 132 Rossi Road, Rossi, commencing at 10am and finishing by 1pm. There will be some smoke visible from this very small patch of fire during the exercise.

19.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

19.01.2022 Tuesday 1 December - VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER. Below are the warnings for the rest of NSW. We live in 9 - Southern Ranges.

18.01.2022 At the moment there are lots of young birds around especially magpies and galahs. They have not yet developed road sense so please slow down and take care when driving along rural roads. If you do accidentally hit one, stop and check. If it is dead leave at the side of the road but if it is injured contact Wildcare on 62991966 or take it to the nearest vet.

18.01.2022 From the Bureau of Meteorology: #Thunderstorms possible across much of the state today. Some storms are likely to become severe - with strong and gusty winds on the cards, so keep an eye on the radar and any warnings at https://t.co/quCIgouGN4 https://t.co/cb7FWbWClv

11.01.2022 Update on the Forbes Creek bridge - this letter was sent to all the residents beyond the bridge on the Forbes Creek Road. Yesterday I was able to speak to someone at the bridge from QPRC. It is hoped the bypass will go on the lower side of the bridge and that the new bridge will be commenced in early December. I’m not sure the bypass will be suitable for the gas truck or fire trucks. This bridge saga has been going on for years now.

10.01.2022 Something to do tomorrow...

09.01.2022 Sunday 29 November - VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER Very hot and windy - take care with any machinery that could cause sparks such as slashers and mowers. Have fire fighting equipment such as water and hoses nearby. Have you made a plan for you, your family and property in case of fire? Will you stay and defend or leave early? Have you planned for your animals? What will you take with you? Do you have a storz fitting on your tank to allow for easy access to your water supply? Do you ...have a pump, hoses etc? Do you know how to use them? What about the others in your family? Look at the NSW RFS website - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan

05.01.2022 Sadly a couple of days ago a female wombat was hit and killed on the Hoskinstown Hill. Sadly the driver did not stop and check. In the pouch was a large joey that could well have survived if it had been rescued. Unfortunately by the time I saw the wombat and removed it from the road the joey was cold. If you are unfortunate enough to hit an animal, stop and if possible move it to the side of the road. If alive or there is a live joey in the pouch or nearby, call Wildcare on 6299 1966 (you may need to leave a message but they will quickly get back to you) or take it to the nearest vet.

03.01.2022 12 months ago today three lightening strikes started the North Black Range Fire which rapidly spread and covered a huge area right on our doorstep. The Hoskingt...own-Rossi RFB was quickly on the scene but the drought, high temperatures and winds meant this fire would be a danger to local communities for many weeks. Many Forbes Creek residents evacuated and those in Hoskinstown, Rossi and rural properties enacted their fire plans. Many local Brigades as well as Brigades from around NSW, ACT and also New Zealand fought the fire in difficult terrain. It was a long and arduous campaign that required a huge community effort to contain. Thankyou to all the Firies, local landholders, community members, NSW Parks, Forestry and others who supported us during this difficult time. (Map from 1 December)
