Starting position: The bar is above the feet, close to the shin bone. The shoulders are slightly in front of the bar. Pulling the bar close to the body requires assistance and stabilization by the latissimus dorsi. Keep the core muscles activated and the back straight. . The deadlift can be divided into two stages. . 1Lifting the bar to knee level. This is done mainly through knee extension. The trunk remains in a forward-leaning position. . 2Full extension of the hip and the knee until the body is fully straightened. . In this video, we can see a common mistake which many people are doing. Throughout the exercise, keep the back in a neutral position. Here is John Trovas after winning a silver medal at the Junior World Track Cycling Championships in Germany. John set a new Australian and Oceania record but was beaten by just 6/100ths of a second for the gold medal. Hes already back in the gym preparing for another big year in 2020. 23.01.2022 Weve had some amazing staff over the years. Some have gone on to have successful careers in the fitness industry, others on tv. Michelle Bridges taught classes at Hotbodz, and so did former NRL player Luke Milton. Luke has moved to the U.S. and is based in L.A. where he owns his own gym chain called Training Mate. However Luke is better known for his role in the show Revenge Body where he trains Khloe Kardashian. Whenever hes home he always stops in to visit. 22.01.2022 Jerome Simpson (right) is 7 weeks away from the Arnold Sport Festival in Melbourne where he will compete in bodybuildings Classic Physique category. Here he is practicing his posing under the watchful eye of Glenn Byrnes (left), Glenn has stood on the IFBB Mr Australia top three podium on five occasions! Jerome only just turned 23 years old and is currently 105kg at 185cm tall, his plan is to just scrape under the 100kg required for comp day. He has good help, aussie bodybuilding legend Paul Haslam does his diet, Selina Haslam helps with posing, and at Hotbodz he gets to train alongside guys like Glenn, who has been training here for over 25 years. Jeromes planning is meticulous and he will be ready to mix it with the best. Well keep you posted as he progresses!

20.01.2022 In 1987 Swedish born Roland Nilsson played in an undefeated World Championship Ice Hockey team. Fast forward to 2018 and the 63 year old faced a new challenge. His weight had fluctuated between 113-116 kgs for the first 10 months of the year, much heavier than his previous playing weight of 88 kgs. Roland is also an avid skier and planned to ski Lake Tahoe in the U.S at the end of January 2019, but needed to lose some kgs. A plan was devised to bring him down from 114kg to 100kg over November, December and January. Here he is today, two days before he leaves, weighing 100.1kgs. 20.01.2022 I took these photos of the Cronulla Grand Prix 5 years ago today! Team Sky pro road cyclist Chris Sutton was already training at Hotbodz when he started his pro career with Cofidis in 2005. He was based overseas but when he was at home he would be here doing his weights. He would often do a big session on a leg press then ride straight to the local club races on a Tuesday or Friday night and race! On the 30/11/13 he raced in the Cronulla Grand Prix, beaten to the line by m...illimetres by Caleb Ewan. Chris wasnt the only Hotbodz member in the race, a young Jay Dutton was also in the mix until the very end. 16.01.2022 Congratulations to St George track cyclist John Trovas, He started training with me 16 months ago. During that time he has won State and National titles, been accepted into the NSW Institute of Sport, and now selected to represent Australia at the Junior World Championships! He is now the fastest ever u/19s 200m qualifier to ride at Dunc Gray Velodrome, and also the fastest u/19s starter ever in the Team Sprint. He is still only 17 years old! 14.01.2022 Alan Fallah (right) has trained at Hotbodz for 20 years. He is a former NRL player, NRL linesman, referee and a popular school teacher at Gymea Technical High School. Along with Paul Smokey Gillespie (left) the pair represent Australia in the over 50s National Oz-Tag team. On Wednesday nights they lead our Hotbodz Oz-tag team into battle in the open age category. They are probably the oldest players in the open age comp, but they still hold their own against the young kids! They are great mates, great blokes, and an inspiration to everyone around them!

In this post you can see a common mistake we should all avoid! Taking the weight too low (to the point where your knees are pinned to your chest) is a great way to damage your lumbar region, and leave you with a very sore back. Yes, you were often taught that a full range of motion is a great thing, so watch this video and find out why we should avoid it. Tip The position of the feet on the plate will determine which muscles will be dominant. Placing the feet on the lower part of the plate will transfer the load to the quadriceps, while placing the feet on the upper part of the plate will transfer the load to the gluteus maximus. 12.01.2022 Cyclings Womens Team Sprint event requires two riders to launch from a standing start, the first rider completes the first lap and then moves over. The second rider following closely behind then continues on to complete the second lap. The time recorded at the end of the second lap is that teams official time. Kaarle Mcullough had tried for several years to win the event at Nationals but it had eluded her. The World Cup, World Champs and Olympic rep simply didnt have... a NSW team-mate that was fast enough. The winners of the national event get to wear the national jersey at all domestic and overseas events. Kaarle tlried for seven years to no avail. Early 2018 and St George cyclist Jay Dutton asked if I could take on another client. His St George Cycling Club team-mate Selina Ho needed to get stronger and faster and a possibility of riding with Kaarle in the team sprint. Kaarle and Jay had trained here for years. Kaarle, Jay and Selina are all members of the St George Cycljng Club, I knew who Selina was, but Id never met her. I would quickly formulate a program, and we were up and running. 2018 was a big year, selected into the NSW Institute of Sport program in July, selected to ride with Kaarle at Nationals, a dream come true for Selina! 2019 Nationals, Melbourne Arena, Selina seemed to falter at the unfamiliar starting gate, unperturbed she continues on to ride a personal best time and catapulted Kaarle to the podium. Its gold for these girls! Kaarle is over the moon, Selina is stoked, me, well Im just pleased to see my clients achieving their goals. I just do what I do, but to say Its special for me is an understatement. Say hello to Selina, our latest National Champ! See more

11.01.2022 Hannah Sandison, Selina Ho and John Trovas were on fire as they scorched around the Anna Meares Velodrome at the 2019 QLD State Track Cycling Championships in January. The three sprinters were each entered into four events. In an amazing display the three came home with four medals each. Hannah and Selina both compete in the elite womens events and had to compete against each other in the finals. John Trovas is still only 17 years old but he not only won the sprint in th...e under 19s, but also raced in an elite mens race and stole their silver! The trio have some big races coming up and Hotbodz is fully committed to the preparation. 06.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our members, Luke Clancy for his incredible body transformation. Its been an amazing weight loss journey for Luke, who has now lost 40kg of bodyweight. Over the last few years his weight had crept up to 120kg, (Photo 2). His eyesight starting to fail, he required glasses for both reading and distance. In 2018 he was ready for a change. Using just a set of scales and a mirror, a sensible eating plan, weight training, walking and bike, his journey... had began. On the 17 May, 2019 (Photos 3 and 4) he stepped on the scales at 80kg. an incredible loss of exactly 40kg. Surprisingly his eyesight also appears to have been restored and he no longer requires glasses! Tag a friend you think may benefit from a similar program. 01.01.2022 In 1991 kickboxer Grant Barker was knocked out by a big Queenslander named Mitch OHella. Two days later Grant asked me if I could help him restore his ambitious pathway to become a world champ. No easy feat, but challenge accepted! The plan was swiftly in place. Former World Champion Michael Spinks would be responsible for all the technical aspects of kickboxing. I would be responsible for the physical and mental preparedness to cope with the training and epic battles to... come. From that day onwards Grants training changed, the jogging was gone and everything revolved around building speed and power. Power is the product of both speed and strength, and Grant would have it in bucketloads! For the next two years we would train together almost every day. Grant would develop the ability to produce as much power in the last round of a fight as he could in the first round, and opponent after opponent would fall. Grant had what I call the Lazarus Factor, the ability to take an insurmountable amount of punishment and yet from somewhere, somehow, come back from the dead! He would need that ability, because things were about to get tough. In our time together he didnt lose a single fight, and in a rematch big Queenslander OHella was among the many who would get knocked out along the way. In 1992 Grant secured a world title fight and my job was done. Stan Longinidis had the belt, however in his first challenge Grant would lose against the much more experienced opponent. In the following years Grant continued without me, using the same methods he would become a two-time world champ! We still remain good friends and catch up regularly.
