25.01.2022 Today’s travellers are becoming more and more digitally inclined. Guests are now checking-in with their own technologies such as tablets, iPads, laptops and mobile devices. Due to the growing partnership between guest technology and entertainment, customers want to know that when they are in their room at your B&B they can enjoy the technology they’re used to. B&Bs need to be more aware of the devices their customers are using and work with this disruptive technology to form...ulate their ideal entertainment strategy. Sometimes it may seem hard to keep up with the latest in technology, especially when things are always moving so fast. Fortunately, there are some trends that are here to stay, that offer a high ROI, improve your customer satisfaction, and will attract more guests. 22.01.2022 What you need to know about data security to protect your B&B There are three security threats you need to be aware of: Malware... Malware, short for malicious software, is the most common and most dangerous online security threat thanks to its diversity. It poses many dangers to hotel technology such as reservations systems. Types of malware that you may be familiar with include viruses and ransomware. Spam Spam refers to an unsolicited message usually advertising material (think of the ‘spam’ folder in your email). But in some cases spam messages can carry dangerous malware and be very convincing. Avoid opening emails and clicking links that look suspicious or are asking you to provide money or personal details. DoS attacks A denial-of-service (DoS) attack occurs when a hacker or virus shuts down a machine or network and prevents it being accessed by its intended users. The victims of DoS are usually high-profile organisations who people have a slight against, so you might be off the hook here. 21.01.2022 Here's what to do when a guest complains at your B&B: Remain Calm And Recognise Their Complaint Staff attitudes towards the situation can have a massive effect on the reaction of the complaining customer. If the staff member acts annoyed, impatient, or gives off body language that is disrespectful, then it is likely the customer will increase their irritation.... If the staff member is calm, kind and acknowledges the feedback as legitimate, then the situation will likely diffuse and result in a common understanding. Try To Offer A Solution To The Problem Research has shown that customers care more about a quality response than speed of the response. Ensure your solution matches the issue at hand whilst steering clear from the original issue. For instance, if a customer is complaining about the quality of the food, do not offer them another free meal that will only offer the same disappointment, rather give them their meal for free and tell them you will work towards improving the meal according to their feedback. Use The Situation To Improve Your Business It may seem like an all-round negative experience receiving a complaint but feedback is important, and you should look to turn it into a positive. 14.01.2022 Here are 5 Web Design Principles Your B&B Must Follow: Create content that represents your brand by providing information about local attractions and businesses, connecting your social media accounts, and posting reviews from sites like TripAdvisor or Yelp. This will show your customers that you are trustworthy and are a validated business within the industry. Appeal to these guests through high-quality images that capture your B&B’s unique identity. Make sure to show...case your property exterior, each room type, your amenities and any other physical aspects that stand out. If a user needs to zoom in to follow a link on your mobile website then it hasn’t been designed in a user-friendly way. In 2017 people are five times more likely to leave a website if it isn’t mobile-friendly, so creating a website that caters to mobile and tablet devices will help ensure you don’t lose bookings. 08.01.2022 Just finished a coaching session in the beautiful Port Douglas. After helping many businesses work out how often they need post on social media and putting together a marketing strategy today, I realised I need to take my own advice! Marketing companies need to post too . Well looks like I'll be doing a social media schedule for myself when I get home but first treating myself to some chicken pho from Viet Pho Cafe in Port Douglas. Definitely recommend

05.01.2022 Is your hotel prepped for handling the Coronavirus? Occupancies are down, mass gatherings have been cancelled and tourist arrivals have dropped. Back in 2010, there was a study for surviving an economic downturn. Over 900 respondents from around the world participated and provided some very insightful comments that are as true today as they were 10 years ago.... Don’t panic One respondent said it quite succinctly, Do not panic. Do not compare downturn periods with previous good periods. Think more in terms of long term decisions. Be wary of broad-scale discounting As one respondent advised Don’t drop rate or let me state it this way Don’t drop your public/retail rate use the retail rate as the benchmark for discount rate programs and fence these discounts appropriately. Don’t cut your marketing budget As one respondent suggested, When the bad times hit again, save the marketing dollars on new initiatives (e.g. acquire new customers or promoting new hotels) but focus the spending on the existing customer base.
