Roberta Perkins (1940-2018) was a trailblazing Australian sociologist, writer and transgender rights and sex worker rights activist. Perkins wrote several books and academic articles on the lives of transgender sex workers and established the first assistance cen...tre for transgender people in Australia. The free 90-minute online launch event will feature a range of guest speakers and a collection of Perkins' works, provided by the Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives. An extension of the LGBTI Legal Service, the Project is a two-year program designed to address the specific legal needs of trans and gender diverse Victorians. Roberta Perkins was a trailblazing Australian sociologist, writer, and activist for transgender and sex worker rights. Perkins wrote several books and academic articles on the lives of transgender sex ...workers and established the first assistance centre for transgender people in Australia. We were incredibly fortunate to work alongside St Kilda Legal Service and Transgender Victoria to launch the Project at a booked-out virtual event featuring special guest speakers, and a collection of Perkins’ works.
