25.01.2022 September is Dementia Awareness Month, and this week is Dementia Action Week to promote more education about this disease that affects approximately 447,000 across Australia. Last month, Thean from Dementia Detailing approached us to help revamp her Squarespace site for a professional, yet approachable feel, with easy navigation for visitors and clearer service provision as her message (and expertise) were lost in the layout. Additional animated explainer videos were also re...quested to promote her services on both her website and across social media. Taking the logo, branding colours and fonts, we went with the bold red and white colour theme and added a little fun with bubble graphics and parallax scrolling to give the effect of bubbles moving up the page. 20.01.2022 A beauty product website given it's very own facelift! Polina had built her Squarespace website herself, but wanted a more professional look to attract new customers. The original design had a very basic landing page, dark headers, with a lot of white space, and it wasn't clear where to go next to find out more / purchase the product.... Some of the changes that Hot Lizard Designs implemented were: a white header for a cleaner look; using the blue from the logo as the accent colour, making the customer login link more prominent, and full width banners for a more luxurious look. Kati was very helpful and professional. She provided valuable guidance while being flexible and understanding my requirements. Her communication was thorough and clear. I would definitely hire her again. Would highly recommend Kati."

16.01.2022 So pleased to announce that the new Nofra Klinik Squarespace site is live! Jo and Katie are Perth-based psychologists and recently took over a second practice, Nofra Klinik, so they could offer their counselling services both north and south of the river. The original website was just an image of the logo with an address and a link to Google maps. ... The new design highlights the different services on offer, with a clear call to action for visitors to contact them to book an appointment. The colours and images were chosen to complement the original logo and interior design. The flexible design elements within Squarespace means that as the business grows and evolves, so can their website - online bookings and payments, addition of new services and team members, etc. Check out the site at www.nofraklinik.com.au

15.01.2022 Creating a blog allows you to establish your credentials. Having a popular blog with useful, topical, funny articles will increase brand awareness and help drive more customers to your business. It also gives your business a bit of personality. Not sure what to write? Start off with an introduction, and what you hope to cover in your blog. If you encounter writer’s block staring at a blank page, use your phone to record yourself and imagine you are speaking to a new customer. You do not need to publish every day, or even every week, but you do need to post on a regular basis (Google search engines love new content!).

12.01.2022 Last week we took on another interesting project - a website dedicated to the historical research of a small village (and associated families) in Turkey! It was important to make sure that everything was displayed in a logical, accessible way for visitors to navigate their way through the information. The end result is a substantial site that Jonathan, the owner, can easily add new research as it becomes available. 09.01.2022 One of the great features about Squarespace is the flexibility to update your site as your business grows and evolves - no need to start from scratch! MKLC Training offers accredited online teacher training courses, and integrated e-commerce to streamline online enrolments and payments. Students are then given login details to the MKLC Moodle site to access their course. The site was originally built on Squarespace back in 2013 - the very first website design by HLD! Since then, it has undergone one re-brand to it's current look and feel, with additional features and content added as the business evolves.

So honoured to have been asked to help redesign the website for The Voting Rights Alliance so that visitors could easily access voter resources, information, and register for events. With over 2500 unique visitors a month, it was important to have a user friendly, colourful design to showcase the VRA's work and keep visitors up to date with the latest events. It may seem like a simple thing, but many of us hold back from asking the important questions as we may not want to be seen as 'difficult', or 'stupid' when dealing with a website designer. When it comes to your website design and set up, ask. If you're not sure about something, get it confirmed in writing so that both you and your designer know exactly what is expected and what the final outcome will be. Some examples include:... Will you have access to your website to make updates? Do you own your domain name? Where is your domain name and website hosted? Do you have those login details? What content are you expected to provide to the designer? How long will the design process take? It may be tempting to bury your head in the sand when it comes to the technical aspects of your business, but knowing the above could save you time and money later on down the line. So, if you're not sure, ask.

06.01.2022 Website horror stories - like a great urban myth, everyone either has their own experiences with a web designer / agency to draw from, or they know someone who has. Perhaps the scariest story of all would be to find out that the website you have paid for isn’t actually yours.? A client had been quoted an astronomically high figure to update his current website by the agency who originally designed his site just a few years previously! ... Naturally the client wanted to have their site designed elsewhere, and that’s when the horror story begins..... The domain name and website hosting account was registered under the website agency’s name, not the client’s name. Even though the client was paying for the service, they were unable to validate ownership. Knowing that the client was taking their business elsewhere, the agency dragged their heels and drip-fed the information. The transfer process took over 3 weeks to finally get everything registered under the client’s name. makes you shiver, doesn’t it?
