25.01.2022 After TPLO surgery on her left back leg, Shelby is now into the start of her 3rd weeks stay with us (she will be staying for 6 weeks in total). She is now into the next stage of her rehabilitation - which is on-leash exercise (but for just 10 minutes twice a day). With a plate and screws in her left hind leg it is vital no undue stress is put on it. ... This is why in the video she wearing a Halti - it limits her pulling and avoids pressure on that back leg. In the video it looks as if she has her leg down again, but in fact she does hold it up quite a lot of the time and hop on three legs a bit. But putting it down to the ground is progress and what her vet described they wanted to see. Her wound is healing well, it is a bit swollen along part of the stitches. We are her carers but don't make decisions about actions - instead a report with photos sent to her owners 2-3 times a day. They then decide if they want to come and see her themselves and/or take her to the vet for review if they see fit. She is an absolutely adorable dog. One daughter has already owned a Boxer. Seems a cert the other daughter here will be getting a Boxer herself after this experience:-)

24.01.2022 time goes so fast

24.01.2022 Beware plants that could poison or kill your dog! Reading (not for the first time) of a beloved dog's awful death after being poisoned by the deadly Sago Palm reminded me how hard it is to find a list of plants that are not poisonous to dogs. Running the Hound Dog Hotel I had to be very careful with the plants I used in the garden, so I did quite a bit of Googling before choosing what I believe are safe plants - that is, non-toxic to dogs... On the basis of my research I'm showing you the plants that I decided to use in my garden. I am no garden expert and was guided by what I read. So I cannot guarantee they are 100% safe (you must satisfy yourself). I can at least say they have been planted for a few years and I there have been no issues. If any of you believe any of the plants I have shown are not safe - please let me know! The list of plants poisonous to dogs is huge (and easy to find on line). Here's plants I believe are ok :- Hardenbergia Violacea (aka the Happy Wandering Vine) Camellias Mandevillas Roses Bromeliads

23.01.2022 Does your dog hate taking tablets? Here's a foolproof way that works with the most clever tablet finder ! (this is Shelby at the end of her six week stay with us recovering from TPL0 surgery)

23.01.2022 Shelby's owners missing her so she went home just for the weekend and we had her best bud, Ruben stay (to ensure no playing yet to protect her recovering leg). Ruben is such a character and so funny - he plays with balls for hours - turn sound right up!

23.01.2022 Hello friends! Hound Dog Hotel is open again, but going forward I'm offering Doggy Day Care. It will be an awesome experience for my guests as first of all there will be a maximum of just 5 - and they will be closely assessed to ensure they are social, friendly and pooches that are lovers not fighters! Head on over to my website to see all the latest news and prices. By the way, I am still open for 24/7 care to existing clients:-) www.HoundDogHotel.net .

19.01.2022 During week 3 of her recovery Shelby had a bit of a set back. After this operation it's imperative to deal with even small changes quickly. So when we noticed new swelling along part of the stitches her owners took her to SASH to speak to the surgeon - who said it was a reaction to the stitches. It could only have been that because, except when we are walking her (or removing the cone to give her a break but watching her 100%) she has the cone on all the time with zero chance to lick her leg. This second lot of antibiotics were different to her first lot and she reacted to them by being sick. So ABs had to be changed, but she is now nearing the end of her eight day course and once again she is back on track and the scar looking much better, swelling and redness both diminished.

17.01.2022 My updated website for Doggy Day Care is now finished. And my favourite thing of all is this little video on the Homepage showing my regulars desperate to get in to start the fun! If it doesn't appear here head on over to the Home page and it is right at the top - don't miss it!!! www.Hounddoghotel.net

10.01.2022 Ted, if you will go in the thick gloop at low tide and come out with what looks like black wellington boots made of mud- then don't think you can hide when it's time for a shampoo!

10.01.2022 look at gorgeous Miss Coconut! She's all grown up now and a good girl:-) the correct link is https://hounddoghotel.net//is-anything-cuter-than-a-cavood

08.01.2022 Regular guests overjoyed to be back - and some getting foot spin in their haste to get inside!

05.01.2022 I met a terrific girl in Manly 5 years ago who adores dogs and set up a dog walking service and was very successful. She then took on a rescue dog, 11 month old Asha, who had some issues and has been a challenge to train. Delphi now lives in Coffs and has devoted herself to training and rehabilitating Asha. She calls herself 'the dog that raised a trainer' as in working with Asha she is herself learning all the time. I saw this latest post of hers and was blown away by the sentiment - using her experience of learning a new skill to reinforce the importance of empathy when teaching new skills to Asha.

05.01.2022 Doggie Day Care play times are very popular, and after they enjoy a rest or nap

02.01.2022 following my post earlier today with a video of Shelby, as mentioned we always report regularly to owners. And today we raised our concerns re swelling along part of the stitched area. Just as well / Shelbys owners took her to SASH tonight and she has had a reaction to the stitches - back on antibiotics for another week!
