She definitely is just that - very unusual looking (in the cutest way) and the right amount of loving and independence.... 19.01.2022 So sad to hear about the passing of gorgeous Vegemite, cover star of 'Perfect Imperfection - Dog portraits of resilience and love.' He was much loved by many and will be sadly missed. He helped shine a light on animals perceived as "different" and will live on forever in our hearts. Sending love to Chantelle and family at this sad time. RIP little friend. xx

19.01.2022 Sincere thanks to the kind team from Dogs Today Magazine in the UK for sharing the obituary I wrote for our sweet Pixel in their January issue. We miss her to bits and know that so many others have experienced similar losses this year. It’s one of the things that bonds us as pet people and although they break our hearts in the end, we wouldn’t give up a minute of time we get to spend with them. Big loves to everyone who has lost a beloved pet in 2020.

Karen says "I lost my Boxer boy Tonto on 16th May 2017. He was white with two brindle eye patches. I always wanted another one which has the same appearance. Then I found Louie, white with two brindle eyepatches. He was born on the 16th of May 2017 the same day as Tontos passing. ... There are so many similarities between Tonto and Louie that it’s scary. I believe he was hand picked for me to heal my heart. When my Boxer Mambo passed, I was lost. I prayed for a tiny boxer as Louie is a big boy, my prayers were answered in Tomie - she is so petite. All my boxers have come from registered breeders in the eastern states, and with each and every one it has been love at first sight. The second I get them out of that crate I feel they are home. 12.01.2022 "Jake was a massive support for me when I lost my old mare of nearly 13 years." A sneak peek for Hayley of 12 year old Border Collie, Jake. Hayley says "Jake came from Rockingham. He was the only male left and I had to have a black and white puppy - so I took him and have never looked back. His Mum was black and white and his sisters were brown and white the same as his Dad, so I guess you could say he’s always been a Mummy’s boy. Ever since he came home he's been my best bud...dy. He goes everywhere with me. He’s been to Queensland, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie with me during my horse riding career and early days of eventing. Jake enjoys days out swimming on the boat or sun baking on the swim platform. Wen we are at home he often runs down to his big brother, JD's, paddock (my thoroughbred gelding) and tries to round him up, much to JD's dislike. Jake is so in tune with me he knows when I’m flying out to work and he follows me around the house like my shadow and gives me the saddest eyes, making me feel bad for leaving him. But when I return home he gives me the biggest and best hugs kisses and cuddles ever. He doesn’t leave my side for two days after I get home. Jake was a massive support for me when I lost my old mare of nearly 13 years. He knew I was sad and would cuddle me all day and night. These days Jake is starting to show the signs of his age. He has more grey hair in his face and he’s starting to stiffen up after running around with the horses. He has the the most beautiful and kind nature. He wouldn’t hurt a fly." Jillian says "I've grown up with terriers and have always loved their personalities. While I had wanted my own dog for years I waited until the time and home was right. I then waited another two years for a litter of Irish pups to arrive. ... Archie was the biggest in the litter. The day we went to pick him up, he was more interested in exploring the yard than coming with us, a sign of things to come. He certainly tested our patience in those early years. Memories such as trying to retrieve him from a paddock full of dairy cows springs to mind. At 7 he still has the Irish spark. He must always do zoomies after dinner, loves a good blow dry after a bath and his favourite past time is hunting flies. Our house would not be a home without Archie. He has given us a few grey hairs over the years - they call Irish Terrier pups red devils for a reason. 10.01.2022 A sneak peek for Lian of 9 year old Labrador, Peri. Lian says "Part of Peri’s pedigree name is Mr Special, and he has lived up to that name, but in a good way. He’s a truly gentle soul and loves everyone, including kids. He thinks anyone who comes to the front door is there to visit him. Peri is a true water dog. He loves the beach, pool or any other water he comes across. He decided to steal grapes off the vine a few years ago. We were overseas and it caused out housesitter... a whole lot of stress (she’s forgiven him!) By all accounts, he thoroughly enjoyed the late night visit to the emergency centre. When he was a pup, he targeted any spiky plants I had in the garden and destroyed them. Thankfully he outgrew that and has been very good ever since. He’s actually pretty well behaved for a Labrador. Peri is such a personable dog. He was a blood donor for a few years and always enjoyed the pats and treats. He’s also helped out in physical examination practicals with vet students and received lots of pats. In return he did bottom wiggles. Something about him just makes people smile when they meet him. He’s quite well travelled too. He did the Canning Stock Route and Holland Track with us a few years ago and usually comes camping with us if it’s safe for dogs. We usually book dog-friendly accommodation so he can come with us. I miss him terribly when I travel overseas!" 10.01.2022 "When we coaxed her out from her travel crate, she fell into our arms and we fell in love with her." A sneak peek for Helen of 5 year old Boxer, Portia. Helen says "We were looking for a companion for our Boxer girl, Cooper We first saw a picture of Portia on a boxer group on FB. After lots of cross checked enquiries with her registered breeder and Boxer friends in WA, Portia came to live with us as a 7 month old puppy from NSW. We met her at the airport on a cold and windy ...night after her very long journey. When we coaxed her out from her travel crate, she fell into our arms and we fell in love with her. She was welcomed and dearly loved by our Cooper. Portia is an absolute darling. She loves her people and likes to follow me wherever she is - upstairs, downstairs, inside, outside, even to the loo! But the one place she doesn’t want to follow us is "The Bath"! When Portia hears she is going to have a bath and sees her towels, her loyalty is divided. She follows halfway to the bath then pins herself heavily to the floor. I then have to have to heave her up and carry her in to the bath, which she then enjoys, haha." 09.01.2022 "It's so satisfying to give one of these beautiful animals, who have such a sad start to life, the happiness and love they deserve." A sneak peek for Claudia of 6 year old Greyhound, Marley. Claudia says "We adopted Marley on impulse at a GAP adoption day. We had been wanting a dog for ages but had only been considering a Greyhound for a week or so when we saw the adoption day advertised. We thought we'd go just to look, but she's a cunning girl and convinced us to take her h...ome. We've never regretted it. Marley continues to come further out of her shell every day. She started out very timid and was so afraid of traffic we could barely get her out of the house. She never wagged her tail and would freeze every time she saw another dog. Two years later she loves her walks and gets excited everyday at 4pm when she knows it's almost park time. She wags her tail, chatters her teeth when she's excited, dears when she's sleeping and zooms up and down the corridor all day long. She's still shy around other dogs but is a big people schmooze. We love watching Marley shed her anxiety and become a happier, more relaxed hound. It's so satisfying to give one of these beautiful animals, who have such a sad start to life, the happiness and love they deserve. She really is a gentle giant." 08.01.2022 "A friend got in touch and asked if we were interested in adopting a dog that someone was looking to rehome due to not having the time to spend with him. " A sneak peek for Susan and Paul of 8 year old Maltese, Ollie. Susan says "Ollie came to us at a time when we needed him and he needed us. We had recently lost our beautiful rescue dog Sally and the house was feeling empty. A friend got in touch and asked if we were interested in adopting a dog that someone was looking to r...ehome due to not having the time to spend with him. I went down to meet him the next day, he jumped up gave me a kiss and we've been besties ever since. One of Ollies favourite things to do which makes us laugh, is when we take him to the beach he loves to dig holes, lie down and stick his whole head down the hole. We take him everywhere we go, including holidays where we can. Ollie was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has a small lesion on the back of his eye nerve, which causes it to droop and one eye looks bigger than the other - but he is doing really." 06.01.2022 "Things are very much on his terms and he doesn’t trust easily." A sneak peek for Laura of 9 year old Alfie. Laura says "Approximately 2 months after I adopted Alfie he bit me very badly on my hand. It wasn’t his fault - he was agitated by a cat outside the window and I got in the middle. I spent 5 days in hospital afterwards. Everyone told me to take him back but I was worried noone else would put up with his sh*t. So here we both are 7 years later! ... Alfie is the complete opposite to any other cat I’ve ever had. He’s very high maintenance but has so much personality. Things are very much on his terms and he doesn’t trust easily. It took years for him just to sit next to me on the couch. He won’t cuddle or sit on my knee but he will come over for a pat and occasionally a kiss and then leave. Alfie follows me everywhere like a little dog (and he’s probably chunkier than most little dogs). If I’m hanging out washing or sitting outside he’s always by my side. I live in a block of flats and he thinks the whole complex is his house. He visits all the neighbours and most of the time when new people move in they know him before they know me. He just invites himself in. Luckily my neighbors all love him too. Alfies favorite thing is watching cat TV, which is sticking his head through the blinds while he is sitting on the back of the couch and watching the front garden." 02.01.2022 "He loves the beach but we are still working on getting him to swim without him trying to drink the ocean and bite the waves." A sneak peek for Sarah of 1 year old Border Collie x, Ponyo. Sarah says "Ponyo was advertised with his litter mates through Geraldton Dog Rescue. The minute we saw him, we fell in love. We had lost two of our furbabies about one year prior and had only just started thinking about adding another dog to the family. His rescue name was Ponyo (which is on...e of my favourite Studio Ghibli films) so it felt like it was a sign. Ponyo is super smart. We got him at 8 weeks of age and within a few days he was following commands. He picks up tricks so easily but it also means he can get bored quickly. He loves the beach but we are still working on getting him to swim without him trying to drink the ocean and bite the waves. He loves people and animals!"
