That’s why we fit in and love wholeheartedly where we are #Repost @longandco Wine with Cat I was thinking about resilience about what makes some people successful and others not. Resilience is something that is built in adversity. That’s why so many people with troubled childhoods become successful. Yet, there are also plenty of people with tricky upbringings that go on to become very unsuc...cessful indeed. So if our childhood isn’t the distinguishing factor, what is? My name is Cat for those of you who I haven’t ‘met’ yet. I’ve had my fair share of set-backs. I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, was sidelined for promotions I wanted and escaped a near-certain redundancy. My childhood taught me to sense danger a mile away, so I bolted instead of sticking around to find out. Yup, I’m a real dream boat. I struggled against ‘the system’, my ‘dotted lines’ and mostly my inability to be a good employee. Despite all this, I’ve done OK. I’m happy and I feel loved. I’ve got Long & Co which is mostly me and an amazing community of creators that work alongside me on projects. I’m telling you this because I’ve realised that all of my screw ups have made me resilient. Jeez, I wish I knew that would be the result when I was hurting. Turns out we need the set-backs to move us in the right direction. They are there to tell us something. They move us out of the wrong company and into the right one. They build strength and experience. So while a bad childhood or boss can be a utility, it’s what we do with those experiences that builds character. Successful people are successful because they have the resilience to try something different. To adapt, jump or grit it out. And so I wanted to say cheers to you business folks out there. The battlers. The misfits. The ones that weren’t picked for the team. We’re OK. In fact, some people would say we’re successful. And we both know that’s kinda funny. Cat xx See more
