21.01.2022 An update from Senior Psychologist, Le Le. Dear valued clients, Thank you so much for being patient during this uncertain time. ... Houston Psychology will be re-opening on Monday 23 March 2020. However, there will be some changes to protect your health. - Sessions will take place in the conference room to maintain social distancing (see attached photo). - There will be a 20 minute gap between appointments to allow for surfaces to be wiped down. - Telehealth appointments will be available for those in self isolation. - Home visits will be triaged and could be halted for some families. - EMDR therapy remains postponed but other treatment programs such as trauma focussed CBT and STAIR will continue. I look forward to seeing you soon. Stay well. Le Le

21.01.2022 A letter from our Senior Psychologist, Le Le Dear valued clients, After much consideration Houston Psychology has made the decision to cancel all non urgent face to face appointments this week. I will provide an update on Friday 20 March 2020 about next week's appointments. ... I will still be available to provide mental health support over the phone if requested. If the matter is urgent (e.g. you have an upcoming court date or a tribunal hearing) I can provide face to face consultations in our conference room to adhere to social distancing advice. However, I will be unable to deliver EMDR as this requires us to sit within half a metre of one another. During these uncertain times I urge you to continue to focus on having consistent daily routines, continue to practise your Mindfulness skills, stay physically and mentally active, and remain socially connected (via phone, social media, Skype etc). If this letter caused any distress please call me on 0428 807 730. Take care and stay well. Le

03.01.2022 "In this brief animation, Dr Russ Harris, author of the international best-seller The Happiness Trap, illustrates how to use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to deal with the Corona crisis and the fear, anxiety and worry that goes with it."

02.01.2022 Our thoughts are with all Australians affected by the bushfires. Below are some tips from the Australian Psychological Society to mentally prepare for a natural disaster. 'AIM' (Anticipate. Identify. Manage): Anticipate that you will feel worried, scared, or anxious. These feelings are natural and although distressing and uncomfortable they help us take action or react faster when our lives are under threat. ... Identify the physical sensations associated with anxiety (such as shaky hands) and whether any unhelpful thoughts are adding to the fear e.g fixating on the worse case scenario instead of focussing on what you can do in the present. Manage distressing emotions using controlled breathing, progressive muscle relaxation or other de-escalation strategies to stay as calm as possible so you can focus on the practical tasks to get yourself out of danger. For 24 hour crisis support please call Lifeline on 13 11 14
