24.01.2022 CAKE PLANK | It turns out that a PLANK wrapped in foil makes the best cake plate. I love that my brother Craig has taken to decorating birthday cakes for his little people. My beautiful sister-in-law bakes the cake and Craig brings the concept to life. A few months ago it was a princess cake and last weekend, this super cool racing car. #happybirthdayalexander

05.01.2022 CELEBRATIONS + CHAMPAGNE | I was blown away yesterday by the number of people who came and supported HoutenPlank at the markets. I looked up at one stage and saw the huge line of people holding handfuls of PLANKS and felt completely overwhelmed. Thank you to each person who was part of that crazy buying frenzy, to everyone who owns a PLANK, to the lovely Justine from The Olive Tree Market who provides a wonderful platform for local creatives to sell their wares and to the lad...y who thought I was selling shelving after I sold out in under two hours. When I arrived home, Brad had secretly organised a sunset dinner on the beach with my girls and my sister Nat (my HP sidekick). The perfect end to a perfect market day. Stay tuned friends, I have a new, exciting project underway and in the meantime, I'll still be sharing some food and lifestyle photography on this page. Have a beautiful day, Mel x
05.01.2022 GENERATIES | Dutch for 'generation' and a hint about a new project in the pipeline. I spent some time in my Opa's kitchen today. I feel incredibly blessed to be capturing his baking skills, knowledge and stories of a wonderful, challenging life for the generations to come. My favourite quote today "Don't put too many sultanas in your dough. It's becomes heavy and it won't rise well. A bit like a donkey trying to get up"
