21.01.2022 The Hovercraft club of Western Australia is still active. We do not currently have a media relations expert. We head out on the swan river on a semi regular basis. We head wider on occasion. There are lots of hovercraft in Western Australia tucked away in sheds. I myself have built 23 and i only have 5 left. So 18 are floating around somewhere. There were a few universal hovercrafts and a few hulls. Some experiments. If you have an interest and a hovercraft maybe you could join us here in the West.
21.01.2022 Today we have a new member of the AHA. Welcome James to officially being an HCWA member. James has been out a number of hover runs with myself. Hes proven to follow the maritime rules and be a great Hovercraft pilot and builder. James has two Hovercraft now the UH18SPW and the UH13p. Great to have you James May the hovering carry on.
20.01.2022 The Accipiter in action at the 2018 Qld rally. Lake Coolmunda.
20.01.2022 I haven't written anything here for a long while. Lets just say the internet is not always friendly, even if you have only good intentions. Hovercraft fun never stopped we just didn't advertise the fact. We are a small club so we choose our members carefully. You are welcome to apply to join. We reserve the right of refusal at all times. We like to hit the Swan River often as its close and safe with plenty of exit points. We do head further afield. My family and I are headed to Qld again for the 2018 state rally. We'll do SA as well along the way. Australia has a small but passionate group of hovercrafters. Jeremy

17.01.2022 The 2017 Sam Waugh national rally was a great success. Three days of hovercraft bliss. So great to be with like minds that understand the hovercraft obsession. A big thanks to the queensland lads for putting on such a great event. My family and i had a grand ordeal in getting to Qld. We did make it and had a ball.

15.01.2022 Seems Fathers day is out of the question for most. Ill hit the river in the morning I think. As it is fathers day and To have the best day possible Hovering must be involved. Looking to next Sunday 13/9/15, Stuart and I plan on going back to Mandurah. So two craft are coming anyone else in?
15.01.2022 Cold and raining with wind for the forseable future. If you have a hovercraft and wish to cruise with some likeminded hover people. Give us a hoi so we can organise something. Hopefully as soon as the weather clears.
12.01.2022 Cruise Report 14/6/15 Stuart Herring in the Viper 4x, 100hp Hirth & Jeremy Ludlow in the Black Rhino, Tempest, 50hp Rotax, took to the river today to test out the new stud bold assembly on the fan shaft that had sheared in the Viper 4X a couple of week back. This was unexpected after faster repairs were undertaken by Stuart during the Saturday. Everything worked very well, all the bolts are in place and only needed a little re-tightening. We then decided to go for a standar...d cruise around the Canning River area in Applecross, and then up to the jet ski area by the Narrows bridge, over to Matilda Bay where we stopped for a coffee. The weather until this point was sunny, but a strong easterly wind was causing large chop in the water, and some slow going especially for Jeremy. After waiting around 45 mins at Matilda Bay the winds had dropped (as forecast) and we heading back across Melville Water with much smoother water encountered, and then back into the Canning River area, where some additional cruising was undertaken before heading back to the Applecross boat ramp. An enjoyable and unexpected day out with the craft for us both. Pictures below Jeremy Ludlow and Stuart Herring during the cruise on Sunday 14th June 2015

11.01.2022 Cruise Report - 31 Mat 2015. Location - Cockburn Sound and Garden Island Oh what a day. Sunny almost no wind little swell tiny waves. ... Perfect Hovering weather. 6 Men 3 Hovercraft 12 Sausages 2 Loaves of bread. Neil and Allen in the 150hp Yamaha powered Mariah Executive, Stuart, Big Mike 100hp Hirth powered Viper 4x Jeremy and Paul in the Rotax 65hp powered Viper 5. We meet at the Kwinana Beach boat ramp at 9am, except Neil who was fashionably late arriving at 9.50 am and Mike who made it by 8am. By 10.20 am we we sorted and in the water, then we were on the beach repairing a few blown skirt ties and p clips. Re set and go, off to Garden Island across Cockburn Sound at a good clip of 23 knots. We made the island and made a stop to repair some skirt ties again. Oh and someone forgot to put in their bung plugs, oops and wet feet. And go, off around the Lee side of the island to the point. Here we stopped and fixed a few more ties. Around to Herring bay we went. With a name like that Stuart Herring decided it was fate that the AGM happen right there. But first the ceremonial sausages must be cooked. With the cooking taken care of it was to business. First up the big job President Jeremy Ludlow. At this point Neil Kentish decided to convey the fact that the Bendigo bank has fee free banking for clubs, hes our man for Treasurer with that sort of knowledge at his disposal. Stuart Herring already taking minutes and directing the meeting was a shoe in for Secretary. Mike Cambell decided he was joining the club after threatening to do so for quite some time. So he was duly given a job, Thank you Mr Vice President. AGM done, sausages eaten. Next off around the back of the island, some interesting flying over very shallow reefs with waves crossing. The ocean was very calm with little swell, so good. Neil stopped at one point we all turned back expecting something must have broken. No he was just fishing Mikes cap out of the drink. Back to the boat ramp with no issues other than cable ties and p clips popping off. A successful trip of about 3 hours duration in all.
10.01.2022 Mandurah estuary 70km epic cruise. With four hovercraft 6 men and a young lady. Stuart in the Viper 4x 100hp hirth Neil and Adam in the Mariah 150 hp Yamaha Steven, Jacque,Nina in the turbo 35hp briggs Jeremy in the Black Rhino 50hp rotax. A showery start with some wind and little chop. We Gathered at Novara boat ramp, some of us ended up at the wrong boat ramp and some came a day early! Eventually with everyone and all hovercraft at the start point we looked at the estuary m...ap and went over the 5 knot zones and let all skippers know where we were going and what the general plan was for the day. We headed out along the open spend zone, northwards. We encountered a few light showers and the wind dropped to almost zero. The big pond was tacked first. The bird life on the estuary was most abundant. They werent to bothered by us and did what birds do. On the far side of the pond we stopped for a fuel check. This was done as Jeremy and Steven were unsure of their tank ranges. It was decided we had enough fuel to carry on to the skinny long part of the estuary. So we went taking in the scenery. Also watching for the many snags that will take a skirt clean off. Around the bend and around the bays in and out not taking the straight route but the very scenic one. A quick stop for a final fuel check and a bite to eat, cheers Neil and the cake bars. Off we went to the island at the end of the estuary for a photo opportunity in the now blazing West Australian sun. See the photos posted earlier. Now with fuel at the heading home point we did just that. The water had smoothed out to glass at this point. Perfect hovercraft weather, oh for such days. So at a brisk 25 knots back to the boat ramp for some drone filming. All we can say is we tried, the record button wasnt pressed so ooops no drone footage this time. Lesson learnt. Next time hey. The longest cruise the WA club has done a 73km round trip. No breakdowns no problems what a day. See more
09.01.2022 Cruise Report 7/6/15 Canning river Applecross. Jeremy in the Black Rhino, Tempest 50hp Rotax. Andy in the Slider by pacific Hovercraft NZ 50hp Hirth. Andy is new to hovering, so we went for a training run in a safe big pond. The slider had had a few issues with hardened and holed skirts in past outings. Last Saturday Jeremy spent the afternoon making 14 new rear skirts using an old one as a template. Andy fitted these and went to work for the week hoping that the new skirt wo...uld fix the dragging issues experienced. Andy headed out a little hesitantly he paid the price by bogging down and unable to plane out from a water start. A little advice, give it shit and dont let up it will be fine. So with that under the belt Andy did just that and guess what? Off we went travelling at 25 knots around the pond and around to Aquinas College and back. We did a few laps and Andys confidence in his machine grew. We headed to shore and decided that the Hirth was not giving full revs. We were unable to tell as the Tacho is U/s. The craft was used as a tourist self drive unit. As such we think it has been governed in some way. And that was that, load and off. Andy enjoyed his craft for the first time, it is always a pleasure to introduce someone new to hovering. The big grins say it all! See more
