18.01.2022 The Victorian Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos MP, has appointed Safer Care Victoria to lead an independent review of chiropractic spinal manipulation on children under 12 years, after a rising ‘media fear’ of the practice. The review will look at available evidence and draw on the views and experiences of community members and healthcare practitioners. 17.01.2022 Just a few days after removing 16 natural therapies from private health insurance rebates the Greg Hunt MP has announced a review of natural therapies. Dr Kerryn Phelps MP has urged that bans on these therapies being included in rebates be lifted whilst the review is being undertaken. The Australian Traditional Medicine Society would like to thank everyone who has supported our campaigns to reverse these bans and welcomes the review and inclusion of natural medicine experts in the panel .

15.01.2022 Australian Traditional Medicine Society President Peter Berryman and Treasurer Christine Pope, were in Canberra this week to attend the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) Summit meeting. COSBOA have been assisting ATMS with lobbying and advocacy. The day included an invaluable Q and A session with the Minister for Small Business Senator Michaelia Cash covering a wide range of issues for small business, ranging from changes to unfair dismissal to the VET sector. Senator Rex Patrick also spoke at the dinner raising concerns about large mining companies who weren’t paying adequate taxation and his vision for increasing value add to mineral extraction.
