24.01.2022 *APPLY NOW* HrdKAW Youth Scholarship Program The scholarship is for a period of four (4) months commencing on the 2nd November 2020 and ending on 28th February 2021 (dates negotiable to allow for a break over Christmas).... The aim of our Youth Scholarship Program is to grow the sport of weightlifting in the Western Sydney/Hills area, and we believe the best way to do that is by giving kids the opportunity to participate. In this program, youth athletes will learn how to snatch and clean and jerk in addition to all of the accessory movements such as squats and deadlifts. Athletes will follow a program to build strength and Olympic lifting foundations. Scholarship athletes will receive free of charge: -Three (3) training sessions per week for a four (4) month period. These training sessions will be a combination of squad training sessions and 1-on-1 sessions depending on what the athlete requires. -A HrdKAW Weightlifting Club shirt. Scholarship athletes will be required to: -Commit to three (3) weightlifting training sessions per week. -Approach the program with a positive attitude, an open mind and a willingness to learn. Applications are open to: -Girls and boys aged 13-17 -Girls and boys with previous experience in weightlifting or CrossFit -Girls and boys with no previous experience in weightlifting or CrossFit but with experience in other sports -Girls and boys residing in the Western Sydney/Hills area *APPLICATIONS CLOSE SUNDAY 25th OCTOBER* Link to apply in bio. 22.01.2022 HRDKAW YOUTH TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS One of our HrdKAW guiding principles is giving back. Both Melissa and I have been elite athletes since we were very young. Along the way we have both had many people go above and beyond to guide and support us, inspire us and help us achieve our dreams.... It’s important to us that we give back to the sports that have given us so much, so we’ve established HrdKAW Youth Training Scholarships. Our inaugural scholarship recipients are Levi Navarro and Ashlee Pottinger who are both 16 years old. Our next intake will be November 1st. 20.01.2022 A lot of people ask me why I include weightlifting as part of my training. It seems like a completely different sport to diving, but there’s actually a lot of similarities! Weightlifting is great for improving my triple extension, which is vital for power development. Power is key for my diving take offs to generate height and speed of rotation and is also crucial to weightlifting. Weightlifting has given me a lot of benefits including the challenge of lea...rning a new skill and competing in a different sport. 18.01.2022 Last week we had Arnold from @eastec_sanitisation come out and sanitise our gym and equipment storeroom so we can offer our clients a clean and safe training environment. 16.01.2022 This morning our precious bunny Marsbar went to be with our sister Kirsten. Marsbar is more than a pet to us, he is as much a part of the WuKREW as any of us. It might sound silly to many but grief does things to your mind, and we believed Kirsten sent him to us to help us cope with the loss of her. 16.01.2022 On Saturday we have 16 of our athletes competing in the @awfcomau U23 National Championships and @nswwa Open Competition. For the first time all 4 of our Coaches will be on deck handling our athletes. We want to wish all of our athletes a great comp, and give a special shout-out to Ben R, Ari and coach Georgia who will be competing in the U23 National Championships. This is the first Nationals for both Ben and Ari.... Thank you to @serg.sara, @jessfishfish, @joshwu7, @maddi_wu and @a.ngati who have all volunteered to help out on the day. 15.01.2022 HrdKAW Strength is a NSW Government Registered COVID Safe Business. Our priorities are the health and safety of our clients, and mitigating the spread of COVID-19. As things return to normal we will be strictly adhering to our COVID-19 safety plan, which complies with the NSW Government and the AWF rules and policies. In addition to maintaining the social distancing and 4 square metre rules: - On arrival each person will be required to have their temperature taken w...ith a non-contact thermometer and fill in a training record of attendance. - Each person must thoroughly wash and sanitise their hands on entry and exit. - All equipment must be disinfected immediately before and after use. - Each platfom and the equipment storage room have their own cleaning kit and bin. - Each person must use the cleaning kit allocated to their platform before and after using equipment. The cleaning kit contains: - A disinfectant spray bottle - Hand sanitiser - Disinfectant wipes - Disposable gloves In addition to this we have had the gym professionally sanitised and will continue to do so on a monthly basis, and have installed a no-touch paper towel dispenser in the bathroom. 14.01.2022 * NEW COACH * Our new HrdKAW weightlifting coach @maddi_wu will be starting October 19th! Maddi has been involved in weightlifting for 9 years and has represented Australia at Youth and Junior level. She is a silver medalist at Commonwealth Championships and a gold and silver medalist at Oceania Championships. She also competed at the 2016 Junior World Championships.... Maddi has been coaching for 4 years and helped establish HrdKAW Weightlifting Club in 2019. She has experience coaching weightlifting and also Olympic weightlifting movements for CrossFit and and specialises in coaching women and youth athletes. Maddi will be coaching for HrdKAW in addition to studying aviation. 07.01.2022 We now have a HrdKAW Uber Sky driver! We are so proud of our Coach @maddi_wu! Yesterday she passed her PPL flight test and ground theory and now holds a Private Pilot License! It’s been a tough week for Maddi with the loss of a friend in a plane crash and some mechanical difficulties herself yesterday, but she remained calm under pressure and passed with flying colours.... 04.01.2022 Last night we kicked off the next Youth Scholarship Program with 5 new athletes. After their first group training session they completed the first of the ‘Becoming Elite’ Education modules. We always start with Anti-Doping. ... We believe it’s important for them to have a sound understanding of the principles of Anti-Doping and their responsibilities as athletes. We introduce them to the @sportintegrityaus app and ensure they know how to check their substances. In line with @sportintegrityaus, HrdKAW Strength promotes a food first approach, particularly for our youth athletes.
