25.01.2022 From 11:59pm tomorrow night, you will be allowed to leave home to go hunting in Victoria. Hunting must be in parties of no more than 10 people, while maintainin...g physical distancing of 1.5 metres between all participants. As always though, Victorians are being asked to be considered and use common sense when it comes to their activities. You should only leave home if you really need to. We are all being asked to make sacrifices in order to save lives. Hunters must travel from their home and return within the day no camping or overnight stays are permitted. The updated restrictions applies to open seasons for Stubble Quail, deer (except Hog Deer), hunting Sambar Deer with hounds, and duck. For duck hunting start times will be delayed until 8:00am from Wednesday, 13 May through to Sunday, 17 May (inclusive). Four wetlands will be closed / partially closed / further regulated. Please check the GMA website regularly for updates on wetland closures. People are reminded to act safely, responsibly and legally. For the latest public health advice and information please visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au. Authorised Officers are patrolling around private properties and public land, including game reserves, wetlands and state forests, to ensure compliance with game hunting laws. 24.01.2022 Update for farmers and pest control volunteers After requesting an update - the Agriculture Ministers department has responded to me with a yes ! Dur...ing Stage 3 Restrictions in regional Victoria, volunteers CAN go onto a farmers property to assist in pest eradication. The Ministers office responded - Pest control for a farmer (whether paid or unpaid) is considered work. When undertaking pest control for work, the one other person or household gathering limit doesnt apply, but people should maintain physical distancing and practice good hygiene. Similarly for last time, it is essential to have permission from the landholder and prudent to carry written permission with you. For example, a text message or email confirming the address of the farmer, supporting your reason for leaving home. Stage 3 Restrictions advice indicate that any volunteering must be done as close to home as practicable. Good luck & thank you for supporting our farmers! Many thanks to my colleague and Leader of The Nationals Peter Walsh MP, also to Jack Wegman CEO SSAA Victoria and Peter Hawker Field & Game Australia Victoria Chair and all their members for supporting this important petition and their ongoing advocacy of licensed gun owners. This was a politically motivated decision, which stripped firearms businesses of the ability generate income and has caused significant stress and financial pressure on small business owners. Hunting is legitimate recreational activity that connects people with the outdoors and provides vital exercise which is incredibly important for mental well being. It is vital for feral pest control on farm. Recreational shooters come from all walks of life and are highly regulated. Overwhelmingly they are law abiding citizens, their firearms licence depends on it. They deserve respect. Daniel Andrews must reverse his firearms ban and ease restrictions to allow hunting activities to commence. This petition will be presented in Parliament. While Australia’s Chief Medical Officer was restricted to extent by cabinet confidence, he will be investigating further the claims that firearm ownership is linked to domestic violence, as used by the Vic Labor Government to target and shutdown the industry. More details to come but we have confirmed hunting is one of the activities enabled by this easing of COVID-19 restrictions. No travel limit but no overnight stays or camping. Some National Parks will reopen. UPDATE; 12:44pm We expect the restriction on the sale of firearms and ammunition will be lifted at the same time as the restriction on hunting. Through our advocacy we were aware this was the approach being considered in Victoria. Heart Morass will be open for hunting. We will provide more details later today. We are compiling information for Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and NSW in relation to hunting and clay target. We will issue full advice later today.

05.01.2022 An analysis of data by Acme Firearms regarding the number of Permits To Acquire (PTA) per month on average over a number of recent years has revealed that there... is no stockpiling happening and that the numbers of PTAs quoted (2,200) to initiate the ban on buying firearms and ammunition is well within the range of what is normal. Why the previous week PTAs dipped to around 1,000 is anyones guess, but its clear that the reasons given for this unilateral action are, being as charitable as possible; suspect. PTAs are issued with a sequential number and taking a start and end number from a range based on date gives you a clear point in time for analysis of numbers. Bearing in mind that a large portion of the PTAs are for firearms that already exist within the system and are being transferred between owners rather than new firearms. We must remember that Victoria Police hold ALL the raw data relating to this issue and have instant access to it, whereas I rely on questioning the government in parliament or FOI requests, both of which are time consuming, clunky and are liable to obfuscation or outright rejection. I demand that Victoria Police provide data to refute the table shown or else they must provide an unqualified apology to all the law abiding firearms owners they slurred whilst taking this action which may well turn out to be illegal.

03.01.2022 Today in State Parliament I called on Labor to reverese their decision to ban ammunition and firearms sales in Victoria. This decision was clearly politicallty ...motivated and not based on a decision by the National Cabinet. Only the Labor governed states of Victoria, WA and Qld have issued this ban during Covid-19 pandemic. We must continue to support our farmers and allow the control of feral pests that are so destructive on our farms. Victorian licenced firearm owners are among the most regulated, vetted and law-abiding citizens in the state. The ability to hold a Victoria firearms licence is dependent on continual upholding of the law. Recreational shooters do not take their licence for granted. I am encouraging all Victorians to adhere to COVID restrictions and stay home unless the reasons for leaving home criteria are met.
