24.01.2022 How gorgeous is this smile Katrina at #mylormanor sent me the following update on Daphne. Hi Chris Just a little update on our Daphne. The beautiful soul of Daphne is starting to show through. She’s a happy, loving and loyal girl and starting to enjoy country life. I’m greeted every morning with a smile and tail wags. We have been spending lots of time together either walking around the garden with the little dogs or just by ourselves. She sleeps by my side every day whil...e I bottle feed my baby flying foxes. Wayne takes her for walks each night which she loves. Unfortunately old man Lucky of Mylor Manor has been giving her a piece of his mind constantly but she and him I feel are getting used to each other and the severity in his bark isn’t as angry . 23.01.2022 Five years ago we decided to embark on our own rescue journey. I wondered whether there was room for another rescue, whether we’d be able to manage the many and varied requirements associated with it, along with working full time and our four acres and families. It hasn’t ultimately taken the shape I thought it might back then and I’ve had to recognise my own limitations - I can’t actually do everything and be everywhere. I’ve been guilty of doing some things I swore I’d ...never do - not responding to every email we receive in a timely manner, not answering every call I get - or returning them all. Sometimes it’s just too much! I feel overwhelmed and pulled in every direction and unable to be everything everyone needs. I have to pull back a little, regroup and recalibrate and can then venture out again. But over the last five years, we’ve created our own little niche which has as its primary principle: Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. We’ve found some amazing and fabulous families for some dogs and some of the people we’ve met along the way have become wonderful friends and part of our extended Hope Springs family. We have a small wonderful group of foster carers who always ensure we find the perfect match for their foster pooches and hold the line when I get excited about a potential placement and they know we should wait for a better match. We’ve assisted people by caring for their pets when they’ve been hospitalised and have no support networks with our Paws and People Program. We’ve helped numerous people pay for urgent treatment for their pets when they simply do not have the money with our Pay It Paw-ward Program. And we’ve created some opportunity for social interaction and the joy that spending time with a pet can bring to people living with a disability with our Cuddles and Co Program. And we’ve extended our family with all the little dogs who come to stay with us on a Hope Springs Farmstay Holiday. They live with us, they cuddle with us, they demand a share of our pizza and really do become part of our family. I started with this picture 5 years ago, and it seems apt to share it again. 16.01.2022 Daphne had her vet check yesterday and we received some unwelcome news. Daphne has multiple mammary tumours that will need to be removed. She also requires vaccination, microchipping and desexing ((sigh)) - there’s a couple of thousand dollars . Desexing can reduce the chances of quite a number of issues including mammary tumours - the incidence is thought to increase the more seasons a dog has. It is generally best to desex your dogs.

06.01.2022 Carol got in touch today to see if we could help with urgent vet treatment for her Golden Retriever, Ringo Starr. Carol has fled domestic violence and lost her ...job and when she noticed that Ringo had a very sore eye, the vets indicated he needed treatment urgently to ensure his sight was not affected. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t treat without full payment and Carol has not received a Centrelink payment yet. She described Ringo as her rock and has been driving around all day trying to obtain help with him in the car with her. We were able to pay the bill of $260 and Ringo has been checked and gone home with ointment. Fortunately, no foreign body was found in his eye.
