20.01.2022 The Connection Between Yoga and Better Sleep Yoga isnt just beneficial for improving core strength, flexibility, and stress levels; it can also help you sleep betterespecially if you suffer from insomnia. When people who have insomnia practice yoga on a daily basis, they sleep for longer, fall asleep faster, and return to sleep more quickly if they wake up in the middle of the night. Those who practice yoga regularly experience better sleep quality, sleep for longer, and... feel better during the day. This benefit can be seen in all sorts of situations where people have trouble sleeping. For example, pregnant women who start a mindful yoga practice in their second trimester sleep better and wake up less often throughout the night, and cancer patients sleep better if they do yoga (90 percent of cancer patients experience insomnia symptoms while receiving treatment). If you want to work yoga into your bedtime routine, its important to do the right kind. Some types of yoga can be energizing (like hot yoga and vigorous vinyasa flow), which wont help you relax. Restorative styles of yoga like hatha and nidra will all enduce the relaxation response. Here are three poses that are ideal for preparing your body for sleep and that you can regularly practice in our Monday and Wednesday 6:30pm Hatha classes. A favourite Legs Up the Wall: Lie on the ground on your back and put the back of your legs up a wall (keep your legs straight), so your body is in an L-shaped pose. Relax into the position, hold it for at least 5 minutes and focus on your breathing. Lying Butterfly: Lie on the ground on your back. Press the bottoms of your feet against each other and let your knees fall out to the sides. You can put a pillow under your knees if this feels too strenuous. The pose we all come for Savasana, Corpse Pose: Lie on the ground on your back with a bolster or pillow behind the knees, arms by sides, and palms facing up. Place a pillow or blanket under your head. Breathe slowly, focusing on your inhales and exhales.

06.01.2022 As we near closer to the end of winter and COVID isnt helping, it is normal for you to start feeling heavy, tired with a sluggish digestive system. You might find you have been reaching more for salty or sugar foods, coffee or alcohol, what ever your vice is. Ayurveda reads this as a sign your body has accumulated toxins. Autumn and Spring are times of the year our body naturally wants to detox, hence the snotty noses. ... Things you can do to help are; Lighten up your foods (and I dont mean raw salads and juices) warm cooked veggies and soups are perfect. Go to bed before 10pm and rise before 6am. On rising scrape your tongue and brush your teeth before having a fresh ginger, Lemon and honey tea. Reduce the amount of coffee and alcohol you are drinking. Today I made the Gold and Green Goddess soup for lunch and dinner Saut 3min in Ghee or Coconut Oil 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, Ajwain seeds, coriander powder. 1 tsp each fresh grated ginger and Turmeric. Add 1 x chopped leak Saut 3 min Add 1/2 cup each of butternut pumpkin, celery, broccoli, carrot, zucchini, green collards.
