17.01.2022 Are Cria's are growing so quick

13.01.2022 Fly bite dermatitis. I have struggled for the past couple of years with several animals during the summer. Always the same animals. Always starts around shear...ing time (June). Always goes away in the fall. I had previously thought that I was dealing with a hypersensitivity to mites that I just could not get under control. Spent a fortune on Frontline, NuStock, MGT etc and was exasperated at my inability to effect any significant improvement. It now appears that it was never mites in the first place rather it is fly bites. Lesions are seen along the back, at tail base, on the insides of the front legs, armpits, on the nose, sometimes the flank etc. Often lesions are hard but constant scratching causes open wounds/sores. So now I am looking for effective fly control (I have fly traps set up and have sprayed wth UltraSheild but looking for other options) as well as treatment options. Once the animal has been bitten, how do you deal with the lesions? I have washed/scrubbed with hibitaine soap and dried and then applied antibiotic ointments and/or SWAT, but then the animal just goes and rolls in the dirt. And is there anything I can do for the pruritus? Previously asked my vet about antihistamines but didn't get any suggestions. As with most things, prevention is probably the best approach, but clearly I am late to the game here. Appreciate your help.
