24.01.2022 Hey Folks. Community information session on this afternoon. 5:30 @ the RSL. Hope to see you all there. HIPCo Board.
23.01.2022 Quite unbelievable - regional QLD is the state governments punching bag currently.
19.01.2022 Katter's Australian Party has vowed to push for the development of the Hell's Gate Dam, if elected in October’s state election. Members say the project will cr...eate thousands of new jobs and increase Townsville's export activity. "It could be the great industry enabler that allows us to power into the future" - Robbie Katter MP. Report on 7NEWS Townsville at 6pm. www.7NEWS.com.au #qldpol #7NEWS
18.01.2022 NAIF GETS AN "F" FOR EFFORT AND OUTCOMES Katter's Australian Party is giving the Federal Government an "F" on its report card for both effort and outcome wi...th delivering infrastruture in Northern Australia over the last five years. Despite the NAIF running since 2016 and trying to spend $5 billion, only 1.7 per cent, or $88.5 million, of the NAIF’s pool of cash has actually been spent (as of figures released in March). Moreover, only arround $2 billion has been pledged towards mostly soft infrastructure projects that are nice to have, but not going to give us much economic return in the long run. Today the Federal Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keoth Pitt has announced a five year extension of the program in the hope it might actually achieve something. The message from us is that the time for tenative spending on soft infrastructure is over - let's build to enable industry, create wealth and continue to establish a legacy we can all be proud for decades to come. An ideal way to do this in the short and long term would be to establish a government-owned Development Bank, that gives a strategic leg-up to Australian projects that benefit the nation as a whole. The creation of a Development Bank is a cornerstone feature of KAP's policy platform. #KAPteam #qldpol
09.01.2022 The Hughenden Irrigation Proect will create 490 permanent jobs, and nearly $73m in gross regional product annually. If it were up to me I’d have the bulldozers... on the ground building the dam tomorrow, but the project is going through the final government checks. The irrigation properties will not go to the highest bidder, but under a ballot system to the aspirational class like miners and those doing ‘hard yakka jobs’ on the condition that they live on the property. 09.01.2022 So this former fish and chip lady came and had a talk to us this morning about the HIPCo project. Got a good hearing about any problems that may raise their head state wise going forward.
08.01.2022 If we are serious about building resilience in the north and drought-proofing the North West then projects like this one are so important. Everyone is onboard e...xcept for the QLD State Government at this stage. Time to act before we cop another flood, this time no one died but we may not be so lucky next time. Well done to all involved who have got the project this far with the support of the Morrison Government. See more
06.01.2022 In Hughenden earlier this week with the visionary and passionate people of the Hughenden Irrigation Project Corporation and reps from the Office of Northern Aus...tralia and the North Queensland Water Infrastructure Authority. This project is progressing really well but like with all things development out here, you have to keep your eye out for roadblocks at every turn. Can't wait to see the HIPCO vision realised - what a boon it will be for North West Queensland! - Robbie Katter MP
06.01.2022 After 90 years the ALP and LNP are starting to climb on the Bradfield bandwagon. The KAP and other third force parties have ‘architectured’ and pleaded for dec...ades to build the Bradfield vision, and our scepticism is anchored to 30 years of unfulfilled promises on water development. The Revised Bradfield Scheme (RBS) was drafted by the four leading water engineering companies in Australia during the early 1980s under then Treasurer Sir Leo Arthur Hielscher, AC and Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Bradfield wanted Lake Eyre filled with water to make it rain over the Murray Darling Basin (1/5th of Australia’s landmass). He proposed two ways of doing this; reversing the waters from the high elevation Super Wet Belt, through a break in the Great Dividing Range, or by digging a diversion channel from Spencer Gulf to Lake Eyre and filling Lake Eyre (well below sea-level) with salt water. The RBS, drawn up by a university professor, Roy Stainkey and myself, was turned into an engineering plan by Australia’s four leading engineering firms in 1984 under Sir Leo Hielscher and Joh Bjelke-Petersen. The RBS proposed bringing the waters to a large farming area in North Queensland known as the Uplands Desert creating a giant irrigation area. The water then feeds through the break in the Great Dividing Range onto the magnificent rolling rich black soil plains of North Queensland’s Mid-West. It proposed that Lake Eyre would be filled by a canal up from Spencer Gulf (and paying for this by using a tiny 2% area as a salt factory, its products would be fresh water and salt). This puts 32 million mega litres of precipitation inside the Great Divide directly over the Murray Darling Basin. The Murray Darling’s stream flow is only 22 million mega litres. Ecology reports show 10 million hectares of Prickly Acacia weed infestation concentrating over this same great Mid-West Plain. Bradfield inter alia transfers the Upper Herbert River, protecting the city of Ingham against the huge loss of life occurring when the Upper and Lower Herbert simultaneously floods (this is black fella Quinkan country ‘water from mountain to mountain’). I am sceptical of the state government’s ability to follow through with the announcements made in the media this week. My records indicate that there have been some 21 dams and weirs announced in Queensland by the LNP and to a lesser extent the ALP. And to my knowledge, not a single dozer has started up its motor on any of these projects. So people just hear it, yawn, some find it funny, the hypocrisy enrages some. The Liberals (LNP) were in government in Queensland two and a half years ago and they announced a lot of dam schemes in their three years. But there is not even a single engineering plan drafted by them. Barnaby Joyce and his successors were given $540 million six years ago, and to quote Peta Credlin on Sky News, not a single dam has been built and the $540 million is gone. Scott Morrison has given me his word that it was in the budget for the allocation of money for the engineering plans for Hells Gate (which is the Revised Bradfield Scheme Stage 1). As recently as yesterday, I met with the GHD’s Chief Engineer and I am pleased with the progress being made. GHD, were the main engineers drafting the RBS in 1984. Hughenden Dam HIPCo (the local cooperative of businessmen) has finalised the draft engineering plan and by the end of the next fortnight I think we will be ready to bring in a few dozers. Hughenden is right in the centre of the great black soil plain of North Queensland’s Great Inland Plain The Mid-West. We are already in the second worst drought in Australian history, so we are not interested in your rhetoric; we’re interested in seeing a dozer. We are not interested in plans and processes, we are interested in the calling and acceptance of tenders. The KAP are determined to see the great vision of Dr Bradfield, our nation’s greatest builder, happen. We are not interested in gunna do’s. We are only interested in seeing a dozer. Pictures: feat. Sir Leo and Shane McCarthy (HIPCo Chairman)
02.01.2022 It's the vision thing Consecutive State and Federal Governments have failed to deliver any vital nation-building infrastructure in Queensland over the... past 30 years. Former Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen wasn't perfect but you can’t deny that when it came to big ticket projects that would benefit generations of Queenslanders, he got things done. These days, it seems there is too much power with bureaucrats who will find every reason under the sun not to build things like dams, power stations or marine infrastructure. Wivenhoe and Burdekin dams, the Gateway Bridge and the electrification and modernisations of the Queensland Rail network were just some of Sir Joh’s landmark achievements during his time as premier. Katter's Australian Party is built on the old Country Party values and we will continue to advocate for developing regional Queensland to see its full potential realised in not only the bush but in our coastal cities across North Queensland.
