25.01.2022 There are still limited places available at Arts Muster next weekend. I am teaching two one day workshops - Stars of Ravenna and Tesserae di Aquileia. You can read some more information here. https://www.hughesstudio.com.au/arts-muster-2021.html

25.01.2022 So fantastic to be back in the studio today running my Monets Garden Painting class LIVE in the studio! Everyone created such great work.

24.01.2022 Thursday is normally our busiest day with 30+ students through the studio. Today was eerily quiet but just as busy prepping Easter Mosaic Kits for our young students. Available early next week in time for Easter.

24.01.2022 Stunning scratch drawing by my Rembrandts Art Class. Australian Natives never disappoint as subject matter.

24.01.2022 Don’t miss your chance to win some money by entering your artwork!!! All proceeds from entries go to the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre and as you know art...s organisations like ours could do with your support more than ever this year. There’s some great prizes and we’d love to give them away!!!

24.01.2022 More awesome mixed media mosaic by Pip from our advanced class. This is the second in the series on bushfire and regeneration in our local area with pieces fossicked on her daily bushwalks. Can’t wait to see how the next pieces develop.

23.01.2022 I am very proud to be part of Emma's rich artistic journey. Art is such a vital element in the lives of so many people in our community, wether it be finding momentary verisimilitude whilst viewing a piece of art, or deepening our understanding of our own place in history and culture as an audience member in a well curated exhibition, or more immediately experiencing the making of art as path for personal artistic expression. Congratulations Emma and Dallas Price in conjunction with AGNSW. https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/b/posts/art-is-my-oxygen/

23.01.2022 One of our very clever Rembrandts students completed preparatory banksia sketches. ( although they are all very clever!) Lovely work as always India.

22.01.2022 'As Above, So Below’ My completed work for the First Virtual Symposium of Turkey. The making of mosaic simultaneously connects me to the present moment as well ...as to millennia past. It enables me to be across time, as well lost in time. Fragments of stone and glass; found, broken and reassembled to speak to the importance of Gobekli Tepe, as well as to the global and universal connections that our lost civilizations made with the stars. Dimension: 46 x 49 x 9cm Materials: Smalti, Oro, Dalle de Verre, Marble, Limestone, Travertine, Sandstone.

22.01.2022 'Houses of Hundertwasser' Smalti Mosaic workshops are booking fast. Join me for a creative, colourful, informative and immersive day in my Woodford Academy Studio. Saturday 12th, or Sat 26th June 2021. I love this inspiring section of work by Kim Hallam from our Thursday advanced Class. Thank you Kim for letting us use your image to promote this fun day. https://www.hughesstudio.com.au/houses-of-hundertwasser.html

17.01.2022 Studio Doors Closing It is with a heavy heart that I write today to inform you that I have made the difficult decision to close the doors on studio classes indefinitely with the view to resume when it is safe to do so. I had hoped that we would be able to see out the term, however I am becoming increasingly concerned for the health and safety of our students and our community. It was my intention to remain open as long as schools were open. However, it is my personal view th...Continue reading

14.01.2022 I am greatly looking forward to presenting a Virtual Version of my Course 'Focus on Form' at the Society of American Mosaic Artists Virtual Conference in Feb 20...21. Whilst we cannot all be together in the same space we can still learn, share and connect in this way. I have been working hard on translating this practical workshop into a 4 hour Lecture and Demonstration with a comprehensive PDF booklet with all my tips, tricks and knowledge about developing Sculptural Form for Mosaic. This lecture contains different content to my 'Sculptural Mosaics' online course as it deals with sculptural knowledge in a more overall sense and is not focused on the creation of one project. https://americanmosaics.org/2021virtualsummit/ See more

14.01.2022 So happy to be back in the studio this week with 9 modified classes. Todays kids class were drawing Banksias with great success and experimenting with negative techniques. Today was also my first HYBRID class : online + in studio which worked fairly well. This is certainly something we can integrate so those who are slightly unwell, immune compromised or away can still participate. Cleaning regimes are in full swing and the studio has never looked so clean. Sparkly new art kits are a delightful surprise for new students and old students are loving the reconnection that live lessons provide. So happy

05.01.2022 I would like to bring your attention to a bid for a large scale (81sqm) permanent public artwork to be located at Bondi Beach adjacent to the Bondi Kids Pool, S...ydney NSW. Three artists have had their proposals shortlisted, and these proposals are now available for public comment until 26th April 2021. One of the three shortlisted artists is Dr Helen Bodycomb from Victoria, who many of you will know as a prominent and highly experienced Australian mosaic artist, teaming with lead designer David Lancashire. I encourage you to visit the link below and read through the three proposals. I think you will find Helen and David’s design is beautifully considered, but more importantly, their plans for materials, method, fabrication and installation are all technically robust. The proposed mural imagery is engaging and appropriate for the site, will be clearly seen from a great distance as well as offering the opportunity for nuance and discovery on closer inspection by people of all ages. Personally, I think this proposal will offer the most to the site, and to the community for years to come, and I intend to complete the survey and put my views forward to the committee. If successful it will also be a landmark mosaic in Australia in one of our key tourist locations. In addition, it serves to increase the profile of mosaic in Australia, and will provide a lasting example of how mosaic done well can adapt to almost any condition. Please take the time to have a look and consider completing the survey before April 26th, 2021. https://haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/north-bondi-kids-po Caitlin Hepworth
