22.01.2022 Fitted in a few runs this weekend and past week. The Clonlea Gawler walk run group on Tuesdays at 5;15pm all welcome and not Gawler Parkrun on Saturday 8am. Today I discovered the reflections on the new artwork on Gawler East link or Schomburgk Drive are very clever. I have included a bit of information on the new road names and their importance to our community. Mullamar way is named after the much loved and respected aboriginal elder Mary 'Mullamar' Graham. Mary was a resp...ected health leader at Gawler Health service. She started a stolen generations women’s group and was committed to healing the wounds inflicted on the the stolen generations. Mary’s family gave permission to use her name. I was present at her moving funeral in 2013 representing the Gawler Mayor. Schomburgk Drive is from Potts Road to Springwood and Mullamar Way will traverse from Schomburgk Drive to Calton road, through the village centre of the Springwood development. In 1849, Richard Schomburgk, emigrated to Adelaide, and settled in Buchfelde, near Gawler. He was world renowned as a botanist and naturalist. Schomburgk was active in our town, he was a active member of the Gawler Show Society and helped set up the first scientific museum in South Australia, The Institute situated in Murray Street Gawler. In 1865 he became the second curator of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. He established major plantings and structures such as Palm House built in 1877 and died 1891. He encouraged widespread street tree plantings. The huge Moreton Bay Fig trees along Julian Terrace are there because of Richard Schomburgk's work.
18.01.2022 At 6am on ANZAC Day musicians everywhere are being called on to take to their front yards to play the Last Post. A grassroots campaign for Australians to comme...morate Anzac Day at dawn in their driveways is gathering momentum across the country. With traditional services and marches cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, RSL branches in every state have unanimously endorsed the gesture, with families across the nation expected to stand at their gates, on balconies or verandahs at 6am on Saturday April 25. Please join us and the rest of Australia in this special moment to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for this nation. We may not be able to stand together as we usually would, but we can still stand united in spirit. Anyone interested should download the sheet music, start practising and notify their neighbourhood via a letterbox drop. http://musicformateship.org/ #MusicforMateship #ANZACDAY #drivewaytribute #lastpost #Minutesilence #COVID19 #isolatedbutunited
