25.01.2022 Lest We Forget 2020 - This photo was taken during the Hughes Primary School ANZAC Day Assembly last year. Even though we are separated, we can still come together to pay our respects to those who have proudly served our nation. Please share moments of commemoration from your family as we remember from home.

23.01.2022 Our Year 6 students have been Zooming with Dr Karl Kruszelnicki! Dr Karl answered lots of questions and prompted some further thinking. I would like to learn more about being able to bring animals that are extinct back to life because it seems impossible. Dr. Karl said it's possible to bring extinct animals back to life if people found DNA of the extinct animal. Dinosaurs can be brought back to life too, but they are already alive but they’re birds. Jeremy I will use what I have learned to be more sustainable at home. In doing this I will be more aware of what I’m chucking out and what I’m buying. Tom

17.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week 2020 - In This Together

16.01.2022 Dis Day Practising gratitude and demonstrating kindness have been the focus of our positive education lessons this year. We are very grateful to be back together at Hughes PS and we want to celebrate. TOMORROW IS DIS DAY. The Resilience Project coined the term ‘dis moment’. A dis moment is an experience that brings joy, awareness of the moment and gratitude. The students will have the opportunity to write letters to people who have helped during the COVID pandemic, and will ...explore and recognise things they are grateful for such as family, seeing friends and living in Australia. We will also spend time ‘in the moment’ having fun. As part of Dis Day, we will also be hosting a Dis Dance. The students are encouraged to dress in country attire on the day for the bush style dance. Dance is such a fantastic way to bring people together. Hughes Primary School students and staff are learning some line dances for the Dis Dance. If you would like to help your child practise these dances at home the tutorial and dance videos can be found here: https://bit.ly/3e9xDKH See more

11.01.2022 As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we opened our Reconciliation Garden. Thank you to William Tompkins who performed a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country to help celebrate this important event. The garden will serve as a reminder of the importance of grounding learnings, relationships and activities pertaining to reconciliation in truth, and in Country/place. We hope the garden will grow to become a site where true histories, cultures and contributions of Aborigina...l and Torres Strait Islander peoples can be respectfully shared. Our Reconciliation Garden is inspired by the Bogong Moth. According to an Aboriginal Dreaming Story, the Bogong Moth was once brightly coloured like our native wildflowers. Ignoring her husband’s advice, the moth went to explore the mysterious white mountain in the distance. As she neared her destination, snow fell, trapping her. Spring came and as the snow thawed, Myee the Bogong Moth was released. Taking flight, her bright and vibrant colours remained, soaking into the snow and leaving her a dull brown. And where this snow melted, beautiful flowers emerged. The story serves as a reminder that there is beauty in mistakes. Curiosity and an open and inquiring mind are qualities of the Bogong Moth. These character strengths are qualities present in the lifelong learners of Hughes Primary School students. See more
