17.01.2022 Important health update Melioidosis is a bacteria that is found in the soil across North Queensland. If it enters the bloodstream, usually via cuts and... wounds, it can cause a serious illness particularly in the elderly or people with chronic conditions. If you have a friend or a neighbour who is elderly or unwell, please check in on them and if they are sick encourage them to call a doctor. Melioidosis very rarely affects young, healthy people which is why we'd urge this people to lead the clean-up while at risk people take a back seat.
