25.01.2022 I attended the Serpentine Jarrahdale Come and Try Out Sports Day this morning with my wife Cam who teaches at Beenyup Primary School. Had some great discussions with the ladies and gents who put so much into running and organising junior sport. Sports represented included basketball, Tae Kwon Do, cricket, rugby league and Tee-ball/softball/baseball. 25.01.2022 Ran into Tony Buti this morning at Foothills Cycles in Kelmscott. Great local business catering to cyclists of all abilities and ages

24.01.2022 Friday night football at its best! Great to be invited to the Kelmscott and Roleystone Junior Football Clubs Auskick finals and presentation night along with Hugh Jones - Labor for Darling Range

24.01.2022 The Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Inc. are at Bunnings Armadale today raising much needed funds for their move to the new fire station. Come on down and grab a snag and say hello to the ladies and gents who keep us safe from fire in our bush environment.

23.01.2022 It might be a bit more difficult to access local businesses at the moment due to works on the Denny Avenue Level Crossing Removal project, so please keep in mind that they still welcome your support during this time. Thank you for your patience Hugh Jones - Labor for Darling Range

20.01.2022 On Saturday, my team and I hit the streets of Roleystone to help the Roleystone P&C collect signatures calling for the construction of a multipurpose gymnasium at Roleystone Community College. Roleystone has over 850 students, but does not have an indoor sporting and performing arts facility. I support the building of a multipurpose gymnasium at RCC because it will: ... create local jobs equip our children for the future by enhancing their education, and create a facility that can be shared with the broader Roleystone community If you would like to sign the Roleystone P&C’s petition, please get in contact with me or the P&C.

19.01.2022 With works underway on replacing the Denny Avenue level crossing, there have been some changes in how Kelmscott PS, Kelmscott SHS and Clifton Hills PS students can walk to school. Please see the map of changes below For more information on Denny Avenue construction works, visit https://www.metronet.wa.gov.au//denny-avenue-/construction

18.01.2022 The McGowan Labor Government will be providing a $600 credit on electricity bills for every WA household! It’s fantastic news ahead of Christmas, and I hope if you can, you can spend it at our local businesses.

17.01.2022 Byford is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia. Through METRONET, the McGowan Labor Government is ensuring that people living in Byford and surrounds have access to quality public transport. Work on the Byford Rail Extension begins later this year with the construction of the Thomas Road road-over-rail bridge.

16.01.2022 WA’s Container Deposit Scheme is open and now accepting your cans, bottles and containers! I visited the TOMRA Recycling Centre in Kelmscott this afternoon, and met Amy, Chloe and Charlotte (not pictured) who were very keen to return the containers they’ve collected! In Darling Range, there are refund points in Roleystone, Kelmscott, Byford and Mundijong.... To find out where the closest one to you is and their opening hours, visit https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/ The launch of the Container Deposit Scheme marks the delivery of another McGowan Labor Government election commitment!

16.01.2022 It is extremely upsetting to see that the Kelmscott War Memorial has been vandalised. I am confident that whoever did this already regrets it, or will do so when they understand the significance of the memorial and of sacrifice. Vandalism like this is incredibly disrespectful to the women and men who gave up their lives in service to Australia, and to their families, friends and the community as a whole.

13.01.2022 A great morning, despite the weather, down at 107.3 HFM in Gosnells for the Triumph LOGO BAR event.

12.01.2022 SOLUTION NEEDED TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' SAFETY CROSSING ABERNETHY ROAD, BYFORD Yesterday I met with Paul Jones, the principal of Byford Secondary College, to discuss BSC students' safety when crossing Abernethy Road in Byford. With Byford's major retail precinct on one side of Abernethy Road, and Byford Secondary College on the other, many students cross the road before and after school.... However, with traffic along Abernethy Road continuing to increase, crossing the road is becoming more of a risk. That's why I've written to the Minister for Road Safety, Michelle Roberts, calling for a designated crossing and crossing guard for Abernethy Road. Such a crossing would provide a safe way for students to cross Abernethy Road heading to and from school.

12.01.2022 September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and my GP recommended a PSA blood test(I am not symptomatic) which I took this morning. Men who are over 50 should discuss prostate health with their GP and decide what's right for them. Cancer Council guidance can be found at https://www.cancer.org.au/cancer-informat//prostate-cancer #menshealth

10.01.2022 I was down in Mundijong again today chatting with the locals and could certainly feel that summer was around the corner! A beautiful day in paradise

09.01.2022 It is pleasing to hear a number of black spots taking people in, out and around Darling Range will be upgraded as part of the McGowan Government's 2020-21 State Black Spot Program. These include upgrades to: the intersection of Thomas Road and Kargotich Road the intersection of Tonkin Highway and Forrest Road... Nicholson Road between Thomas Road and Abernethy Road, and Mundijong Road between Telephone Lane and Duckpond Road I know there's much more that needs to be done, so I will continue to advocate for more blackspot funding for Darling Range.

06.01.2022 Quick stop at The Organic Circle before heading out for a chat with the people of Bedfordale. Great coffee!!

06.01.2022 Loved the drive to Mundijong yesterday It was a great opportunity to hear from the locals and we received a lot of support for the McGowan team.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Clifton Hills Primary School, who have received a grant from the McGowan Government's Waste Wise Schools program! The grant will be used to purchase new, sturdy classroom recycling bins to replace the cardboard bins they currently use. Clifton Hills students are fantastic at waste reduction, using food scraps for compost, and sorting their recycling. ... Applications for the latest round of the Waste Wise Schools program are now open, and I encourage all Darling Range schools to apply! Applications close Tuesday, 3 November, so visit www.wasteauthority.wa.gov.au for further information.

02.01.2022 There is a thriving arts scene in the Hills which was showcased during the Armadale Hills Open Studio Arts Trail 2020. The trail has now finished but you can still visit individual artists and see their fantastic and unique works, including the Waterwheel Gallery which will be open again next weekend.
