20.01.2022 Excerpt from the third Viviers Chronicles novel. Here is Semla, the Neapolitan anatomist, writing her first journal entry. Journals. They are like letters never sent, words written for ghosts, the ghosts of friends, of family, of enemies and others. Louis has his ghosts. It could not be any other way. Yet Martel also writes, so perhaps he is copying his master, Canon Michael. Our greatest ghost. Now that our Canon is sent away, still they write, issuing thoughts and stories ...of wisdom and aggravation. Who do they think they are, gods? I will only find out by writing. ‘We anatomists are all gods now,’ my teacher once said. ‘The gods of secrets that few should know. We dissect bodies, and the dead shout their secrets to us, stare at us, and wake the gods in us. ‘Some wild men visit the New World across the seas, and return with their stories. They carry themselves as letters to all of us, chaotic, lustful, ragged and without limits. They are the gods of the streets. We are the gods behind doors.’ ‘Wild stories are found stone slabs. We are guardians of that knowledge,’ he said. ‘With it, we must do-no-harm. No merchant, duke, sailor or pope tests himself to this extent. They are vain. We must be above vanity.’ See more

19.01.2022 My Pitch for 'Starts with C'. It's meant to stimulate interest in the story in thirty seconds. Your feedback and comments welcome. An upside-down mock-murder mystery, Down Under. We don’t know who’s been murdered, why, or who did it. In a fast-moving story, local outback handyman, Kev, decides to find out what happened to missing Bicentennial official, Cliff Badger. He has suspects but most are his friends! It's complicated by an Indigenous death-in-custody, a Royal Commission, local criminals, competing leaders, a Media pack and an out-of-control ‘Riot Squad’.

Whoever is telling the story is finding it catharthic. See more
