25.01.2022 Chinese New Year is just around the corner (25th January) and this Saturday, Hui's Kitchen is giving the Derwent Valley an opportunity to start celebrating by tasting some delicious, hand made traditional foods that are eaten every year at this time in China. Dumplings and Spring Rolls have been eaten by Emperors and common folk alike during Chinese New Year celebrations. So come on down to the Banjo's New Norfolk Market on Saturday and try our Tassie Venison dumplings and spring rolls! Our regular menu items will also be available.

21.01.2022 Dragon Boat festival and Zongzi! The annual Dragon Boat Festival which is traditionally celebrated in China on the 5th day of the 5th Lunar month is happening this year on the 25th June. As usual, to celebrate this traditional event in style, Hui's Kitchen will be making Zongzi available in time for the special day. Our Zongzi are 160 grams of hand made, home cooked pyramid shaped dumplings made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo leaves. They are a unique and delici...ously savoury food, with local Tassie pork, local eggs, and some Chinese mushrooms all in the mix. $8.50 for meat/egg/mushroom (or 5 for $40), $9.50 each for meat/egg/mushroom/beans (or 5 for $45). 21.01.2022 We will be at the 2020 Bushy Park Show this Saturday, 15th February with Hui's delicious hand made Chinese foods. Menu will include steamed bao buns (bbq pork and vegan), spring rolls, and a BIG Show Special on Hui's scrumptious fried chicken wings - 8 wing pieces for $10. The 2020 Bushy Park Show - the place to be this Saturday!!

19.01.2022 Hui's Kitchen will be at the Banjo's New Norfolk Market this Saturday with our own home grown roast suckling pig. Our pigs free range on our Black Hills property. The roast pork will be served with rice and cucumber - $15 per serve. Our regular menu items will also be available. See you at the markets!!

16.01.2022 Thursday night is Chinese New Year's Eve, so to celebrate, Hui's Kitchen will be at the Banjo's New Norfolk Market this Saturday with dumplings - specially hand made from pork, or from Tassie wallaby. Dumplings are one of the many traditional foods eaten especially at this time of year. So come on out to the markets this Saturday and enjoy the authentic flavours of Hui's home style dumplings. Our regular menu items will also be available.

04.01.2022 Dragon Boat Festival - The Legend of Qu Yuan - why we eat rice parcels! Qu Yuan was a famous poet in China around about 300 BC. He was the top advisor in the State of Chu, and when Chu was defeated by the Qin State in 278 BC, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River on the 5th day of the 5th Lunar month in the Chinese calendar. Legend has it that when the local folk heard of Qu Yuan's death, they were very sad, and rowed out on the river to search for his body, but were u...nable to find him. To preserve his body, the locals paddled their boats up and down the river, hitting the water with their paddles and beating drums to scare evil spirits away. They threw lumps of rice into the river to feed the fish, so that the fish would not eat Qu Yuan's body. So, in this way, the tradition of dragon boat racing and eating rice parcels was born! Hui's Kitchen rice parcels are hand made and home cooked in our farm kitchen in the Derwent Valley. Made from Tassie pork and Tassie eggs, together with Chinese mushrooms then wrapped and cooked in bamboo leaves, each rice parcel is approx 160 grams. $8.50 each or 5 for $40. $9.50 each or 5 for $45, for the same recipe with added black eyed beans. Hui's Kitchen will be taking a few week's break from the Banjo's New Norfolk Market as we are transitioning into our new role as grandparents! We are open for online orders in the local area, so if you'd like any of our regular food items (e.g. steamed bao buns, rice porridge) please send us a message and we'll do our best to provide them for you.
