16.01.2022 #Repost @m.boyce with @make_repost There is simply no hiding from the affect coronavirus is having on our mental health. According to an address by the Queensland Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic. Support services like headspace, lifeline and beyond blue saw an increase in calls and online service use between 30-60% in the early days of the pandemic. ... While these services are essential, what we have here in Australia is a robust response system. When someone is in pain, mentally ill or suicidal we have reactive services. What we are lacking are proactive strategies and solutions to help those that are not identify as suffering from mental illness, but are in the early stages of loneliness or depression or experiencing increased stress and anxiety. For years in footy I was taught the best offence is a good defence. So, rather than let external influences get points on the scoreboard so we are always trying to catch up, we are focused on helping people build strong defence systems through human connection. Research* shows that when we have family and friends we can rely on and confide we are less likely to experience mental health issues. Social and human connection is fundamental, we not only need it to survive, we need it to thrive in life. We are building The Global Movement to kick start the largest PROACTIVE mental health management community. A community where we are open about our struggles, constantly learning from each other and feeling connected to our local and wider communities. The path to end suicide is long, and needs help and resources at every level. Our path is to connect the global community and empower people to engage, create and lead through human connection. Will you join us? * shorturl.at/gkQSV See more

08.01.2022 How is The Global Movement different from other challenges? Well, during out Movement Week (10-17 October) we don’t want you to set a distance goal or ask for sponsorships from friends and family. What we want to achieve is get as many people as possible to move together, make and strengthen connections and start changing conversations about mental health management.... As a community we have set a goal of 800,000km in 7 days to recognise that far too many lives are lost to suicide each year, and it is going to take a connected community to make real change. Register today at www.theglobalmovement.org (the link is in our bio) and ask your friends to join with you! #makeamovechangeyourjourney #theglobalmovement #mentalhealthweek #worldmentalhealthday

02.01.2022 This week we will look at gratitude and positive emotions. Thanks to #TED, we will share a new challenge and #TEDtalk each day to help you on your journey - Let us know if you take on one of the challenges and tag us in any posts. Challenge #5: Be honest about the thanks you’d like to hear from the people in your life. One day, southern California therapist Laura Trice had an insight about herself. While she had no problems asking for exactly what she wanted in much of her l...ife shoes in her size and not a size bigger or smaller, a steak cooked medium rare and not one that was medium or rare she didn’t do the same with the thanks or praise she received. Instead, she accepted any scraps that came her way and also accepted when there were no scraps at all. When she looked around, she saw that many of us do this. In a TED Talk, she says, I know a gentleman, married for 25 years, who’s longing to hear his wife say, ‘Thank you for being the breadwinner so I can stay home with the kids,’ but won’t ask. She thought about what kept her from stating her needs, and explains, It’s because I’m giving you critical data about me. I’m telling you where I’m insecure Because what can you do with that data? You could neglect me. You could abuse it. Or you could actually meet my need. Try this out with the people you’re closest to: your family and your friends-who-are-essentially-family. And while you’re telling them what you want to hear, be sure to ask them what they’ve wanted you to say to them. 01.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day - and also the start of The Global Movement with Human Connection Project. Everyone has mental health, and our goal is to bring conversations about management into our everyday lives. A lot of us see a physio or other health professionals to make sure our bodies are in top working order and prevent injury, and our approach to mental health shouldn't be any different. If you are like me, my daily steps have dropped over the last week, so this... week is a great opportunity to get my steps back in and meet up with some great people for great conversations. We have a few walk & talk events being added for this week, It would be great if you signed up for The Global Movement (www.theglobalmovement.org) and joined us for one of our walks to help reach our goal of 800,000km in 7 days. First one is this afternoon at 5pm leaving from Howard Smith Wharves - lucky they just opened a beer hall too for some after walk drinks :) All the info is here: https://bit.ly/3lwX104 Or join me at Wynnum tomorrow for a wander along the foreshore :) https://bit.ly/3lx2eoJ Take care of yourself and each other :) #worldmentalhealthday #worldmentalhealthday2020 #mentalhealth #theglobalmovement
