25.01.2022 As a child I loved watching my mum get dressed for work. She was a singer and entertainer. . I would lay on her bed as she did her hair and makeup and put on a glamorous sparkly dress. . Her transformation from mother to entertainer was inspiring.... . Growing up on the Gold Coast in this environment helped me to gain an interest in the beauty and fashion industry. . Now, through my blog, articles, social media posts and one-on-one consultations Ive been able to show others the colours and styles that suit them, and how to bring out their personality to create stylish outfits. . Ive discovered theres a special power that comes with knowing you look great. . 25.01.2022 Its not every day you come across someone that thinks like you, has the same interests, but is the other side of the coin. Jamie and I first met when he was running his business, Nexus Labs, helping other entrepreneurs bring their Tech ideas to life. Together weve managed to create Massblock - an app that connects digital currency exchanges and is now looking to solve the next big crypto trading problems.... What have I learnt along the way? That it isnt easy but there are many people who have been before you and are more than happy to help. 19.01.2022 At the end of my degree in 2011, I moved to Cairns to work at Health Management Dietitians. It was, and still is, literally my dream job! 6 months in, Tara approached me and another colleague to buy the practice... Id like to say that I had a good long think, conducted due diligence, agonised over the commitment, and took my time over the decision.... But, in true Mitch fashion, I grabbed the opportunity with open arms and pounced on the opportunity. We have grown from 3 full-time dietitians to 5, and now have rooms in Cairns, Mareeba, and Atherton. Whats next? Watch this space! 17.01.2022 I have never met a dog who doesn’t fancy my treats. . At a recent dog lovers’ show in Melbourne, a Saint Bernard took one look at my display of All Fish For Dogs goodies and refused to leave. . Nearly an hour later, with drool all around him, his owner could only lure him away by purchasing a bag of the treats and making him follow her.... . My wife Selena and I were both born and raised in Townsville, but we have called Mission Beach home for the past 20 years. . Regardless of how big All Fish for Dogs grows, we will not be leaving town. . I’m a big believer that you have to be happy in both your work and your personal life, and Mission Beach is where we are happy. My kids are here, and now my grandkids and I knew when I started this that if I couldn’t do it here then I just wouldn’t do it at all. . 16.01.2022 When they said, write an article for your Humans of Cairns story, the first thing that came to mind was that Im barely a human and Im occasionally in Cairns.. ..or at least thats the way my recent bomb-dive into business has left me feeling! Im more of a hands-on kind of guy than an office-bound businessman.... But that elegant, flying-possum dive into business that promised "doing what you love" and "working when you want", turned into more of a pencil drop... ...literally, straight in the deep end! I was flat out like a lizard drinking! 16.01.2022 As a farmer’s son, copywriting would have to be one of the last things on the list that Rob Sattler would be expected to be doing in the future. . That’s the thing about life, you never know where it will take you. . "Copywriting is my mainstay. I love being able to get someone’s message across and deliver the sales or customer engagement results they’re after.... . Great design is important, but without the right words, you’re going to be losing a lot of sales. . And sales should never be about forcing something on someone, as it’s much easier to simply find people who want to buy." . 15.01.2022 Many entrepreneurs start out with a drive to start a business and go looking for problems to solve. . For me, entrepreneurship was the pathway to solving the needless frustration my colleagues and I experienced in machinery maintenance management arising from difficult to use software. . It was to the point where colleagues were having meltdowns when using the software their companies had adopted decades ago and are still using today.... . So, I built my first product, Easy Comply, which significantly reduces the complexity and cost of onboarding and operating a maintenance management and compliance program. . It also makes it easy to see what work is happening and understand why the work is important for the business. . These days its incredible to hear the enthusiasm from people who are having their work lives transformed by my software. . 14.01.2022 Writing and dancing are in my blood. . Almost from the moment I started primary school in Western Sydney, I was penning poetry. . Then at the tender age of nine, my beloved grandfather, himself a poet, told me I reminded him of 60 minutes hard-hitting reporter Jana Wendt.... . It was settled then, I would become a journalist... . I now have over 25 years of experience in the media industry, and get to train entrepreneurs, journalists and executives through my business Regional Media Training. . I also get to express my passion for dance through my other business, Incedendo Dance - teaching others how to Salsa. . 13.01.2022 Helping people who make the world a better place is what drives me.. If I get to work with someone who is passionate about what they do, it makes me passionate about creating an aligned brand for them. Ive always wanted to do graphic design, ever since I was about 15.... Most of the subjects I took in high school were art related in some way, with Visual Communication and Design being my favourite. Its been a long journey, but it finally got to a point where I could no longer ignore what I had known ever since I was that 15-year-old girl, with a dream to own her own agency. Ive always enjoyed working with small businesses and now, through my own business, I get to start this new chapter and live my passion. 07.01.2022 I started my business, Backyard Blasters, in my last 2 years of high school, supplying a curated collection of the coolest toy guns around. My goal was to offer endless hours of entertainment to kids of all ages. I remember I had to borrow a bit of cash from the parents to get going. After some convincing and a few weeks of waiting, I had my first shipment of 800 toy guns squeezed into the living room.... These days I ship my products all around the world. Ive built a business around a passion Ive had for years, and when Im not managing my business, I get to enjoy the things I love doing. 04.01.2022 When you are asked to write a story about yourself, it makes you stop, sit and reflect on life. I guess the best place to start is right here, right now. Its also 9 years of being a proud Sklleague which Ill tell you about later and 3 years & 7 months since Ive been on this entrepreneurial ride.
