22.01.2022 These artworks, In and Out and Up and Down were painted during the 2020 Covid-19 period. Somewhat like painting a self-portrait, there is an intimacy in painting ones’ own domestic space. Here, I was attracted to capturing some of the light in this place: of the subtle green light on the downstairs walls in Up and Down; and of the dramatic light and shadows throughout In and Out. In thinking about more than what was in front of me, I enjoyed setting up the scenes a little...: with the placement of the wooden chair inviting you out of the pictures too; and of the ambiguous form, a wombat to me, partially hidden from view. My eldest has named the newest resident wombat of these parts Tim. He isn’t really inside. Nim is instead, our four-legged friend. I have loved this time painting inside with my loved ones around. In and Out by Nic Mason @nicmasonartist is available today just click through to see more #australianart #nicmasonartist #humblehousegallery #humblehouseart #galleryofsmallthings #GOST https://www.humblehouse.com.au/pro/in-and-out-by-nic-mason/

18.01.2022 Looking for a special Father's Day gift this year? Head on over to the Humble House blog where we have five great gift ideas, including this gorgeous painting by Chrissie Lloyd - Where clouds meet snow, Lake Wakatipu. Gazing across Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown is always inspirational. No matter the time of day or night, or the weather conditions, the play of light is captivating as the surface colours of the lake change: brilliant blues to grey greens to inky darks. My pai...nting depicts the light mid afternoon as the clouds fall gently over the snow capped mountains. A small boat had disturbed the water breaking the depth of shadow from the southern shoreline and the sun had intensified the reflection of the blue sky in the distant water. I held my breath in this moment in time. Did you know we offer Express Delivery plus free pickup? So there is plenty of time to browse and find a treasure for dad! #artgift #australianart #canberra https://www.humblehouse.com.au//where-clouds-meet-snow-la/

You can find Nic's amazing oil paintings in the Small and Humble Exhibition today. https://www.humblehouse.com.au//small-and-humbl/nic-mason/ And the time has come for us to say that that's a wrap folks! as today is the last day of our current exhibition. ... This wonderful collaboration began over 18 months ago when Director of Gallery of Small Things, Anne Masters and Exhibition Manager Kylie Fogarty began chatting about what could happen if we were to offer the artists of Gallery of Small Things a larger space to exhibit their work. What has resulted is a combining of two art businesses supporting each other to showcase the best of our artists. We weren’t quite expecting the last 12 months to throw these curveballs at us however, we had a great time thinking outside the box, and we think we made quite the team! Thankyou Anne, it has been such a pleasure to work with you and your talented artists. Although we have had to adapt a few times through these past few unusual months, the nine wonderful exhibiting artists, Amy Hick, Isobel Rayson, Jacqueline Lewis, David Suckling, Nic Mason, Pia Larsen, Phil Page, Amanda Westley and last but not least, Ellen Rosalie Gunner kept the faith throughout, and as a result we are delighted to have had a stunning exhibition to share with you all. If you missed out on getting to the Gallery to see the exhibition, works will still be available online for the next few months. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first ever virtual opening, those who have enjoyed visiting the new online gallery and to our visitors who have popped in to see the Small and Humble Exhibition in person. 02.01.2022 My artistic and intellectual influences are eclectic. They include Marc Chagall, Arthur Boyd, and the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, but it is White’s poetic descriptions of the Australian landscape that are particularly resonant in much of this body of work. As an anthropologist, I have also benefited from many years of engagement with the indigenous lifeworlds of Melanesia. I understand that there are many and varied ways to exist with-the-world. Beings are entities, but t...he word also suggests plurality; that there are multiple ways of being. And being-with one’s environment rather than in the environment offers an alternative possibility. In White’s epic novels, The Tree of Man and Voss, the Australian landscape is presented to the reader as a protagonist. His human characters are drawn into complex relationships with their environments as they coexist with, negotiate, and are shaped by seductive pastorals or treacherous monsters in the guise of flood, fire, and drought. My paintings from 2017 are the most literal depictions of White’s writing. Amy Parker’s Tree and Stan Parker’s Secret of that year are imaginings rather than illustrations that emerge from The Tree of Man. The latter painting marks the emergence of my human/animal figures. During a flood Stan Parker had deliberately mistaken a dead person wedged in a tree for a sheep. Amy Parker’s Tree by Deborah Van Heekeren Oil on canvas 51 x 62cms 2017 Available Free Shipping Australia wide https://www.humblehouse.com.au//amy-parkers-tree-by-debor/ #artexhibition #beings #humblehousegallery
