18.01.2022 Understanding construction drawings or Working Drawings can be difficult for the average person. Most people can easily understand Design Drawings, but working drawings are used by the builder during construction, so they require a great deal more detail as well as a lot of construction jargon. 10.01.2022 The Australian Icon The tin roof (corrugated iron) did indeed play a strong role in the settling of Australia. As a material of the industrial and colonising age, it has been a crucial part of our frontier and mining adventures. We associate it with distinctively Australian buildings such as the Queenslander, the shearing shed, the woolshed, the outdoor dunny and the ubiquitous water tank that’s essential to Australia’s development and survival. #sydney #constructionsydney #australia #building #heritage #history #labour #labourhire #material #build

09.01.2022 STAY SAFE IN THE RAIN So how can you stay safe in the wet weather while on the job? Here are our top 5 tips: Take Your Time... You may feel tempted to work faster in the rain, but DON’T. The rain makes surfaces and roads slick. Pay attention to your surroundings and move more slowly especially if you’re using ladders or scaffolds. Wear your rain gear Rain gear includes both a raincoat and pants. Make sure the material is ventilated and can be worn comfortably for long periods of time. Don’t forget your hands and feet, you should wear gloves that have a strong non-slip grip and shoes with deep treads to prevent slipping. See Clearly If you wear safety goggles, spray them with an anti-fog spray to reduce low visibility. Also, you can wear a hat to safely keep the water out of your eyes. Be Visible Always wear high-visibility clothing to ensure that you are seen by fellow workers and bystanders. Use the right tools Never use tools that are not designed to be used outdoors while it is raining such as electrical equipment. Select hand tools that have a textured, non-slip grip. Working in the rain presents several safety hazards however, you can take steps to reduce your risk of accidents and injury. OHC believes prevention is better than the cure. When prevention doesn’t work, let us be the first call you make. #labourhire #sydney #constructionsydney #construction #building #northernbeaches #buildandconstruct #deewhy #labour

05.01.2022 A typical concrete mix contains 60 to 80 percent sand and gravel, also known as an "aggregate." This aggregate compound is more than filler. It plays an important part in the concrete's composition. The amount of sand and gravel in a bag of concrete determines the mixture's strength and texture. #constructionsydney #construction #deewhybeach #deewhybeach #building #labour #labourhire

01.01.2022 A FACT FOR ALL ELECTRICIANS OUT THERE Lots of electricians possess multiple talents, and some of them went on to very different careers. Elvis Presley began training to be an electrician, and famously said ‘I suppose I got rewired the wrong way round somewhere along the line’. Rowan Atkinson, now famous for being Mr Bean, has a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering that he obtained at The Queen’s College, Oxford, and Alfred Hitchcock also studied engineering from the young age of 15. George Harrison from The Beatles was also an apprentice electrician, although he wasn’t very successful at it, and claimed ‘I kept blowing things up, so I got dumped’.
