22.01.2022 Easter Fete Day update. * new parking area * new lunch options * new crowd control ... If you are sent to the new parking area you will be walking through an area that is normally closed to the public. (Disabled access will still be through the normal car park.) Please note: this is the Bush. No concrete paths, often no dirt pathways, just kangaroo pad/tracks. We have added to the menu. Hot chips, spring rolls, falafels. Sausage sizzle, steak sandwich and baked potatoes are also available. The queue for the new menu will be SEPARATE from the queue for sausage sizzle, steak sandwich or potatoes. Cold drinks will also be available from our plant/cake/book/craft stall. Weather forecast is for cool. Our volunteers will be stretched thin and many have not been before. Please have patience. Your contribution will help to keep the sanctuary open: insurance, feed for animals, cage maintenance, road maintenance. No paid CEO's here.
21.01.2022 Well, the met. bureau got it wrong. I got it wrong. Drop Bear Day washed out about midday. Thanks to those who came along. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and will visit again. The Golden Gumboot Toss was cancelled as it was raining by 2 pm. Zoe won "most colourful teddy", exhibited by Emmeline. Emmeline also showed her volunteering spirit by assisting to dig out a blocked drain. Thanks Emme.
20.01.2022 Did you know there is a Teddy Bears' Picnic on Drop Bear Day? Bring your teddy to compete in the show. Ten novelty classes. Teddy doesn't have to be a traditional teddy. Bring your favourite soft toy (or get your child to bring theirs). Drop Bear Day is this coming Sunday, 10 until 4. Sausage sizzle lunch as a fund-raiser.
20.01.2022 Yes, we are open today, ANZAC Day. Until 4 pm.
19.01.2022 CLOSED for the duration. Please see pinned post at the top of the page.
18.01.2022 Spent yesterday at Gawler Market, stocking up on fruit and vegetables for the animals. There are always hungry little mouths to feed, like this young Rufous bettong and his mother.
17.01.2022 Weather is looking good today in Humbug Scrub. Don't forget your Vegemite if the Drop Bear worries you. See you for the gumboot toss, after sausage sizzle lunch.

14.01.2022 I don't want to hear any whinging about the distance from the overflow parking to the sanctuary. This young lady walked it 4 times today, once using the rake. That was after helping set up 7 gazebos and wiping all the chairs. Thank you very much Rosalie. @Kristy Girdler. We are all ready for our big day tomorrow. Gates open to the public at 10:00. Please be out of overflow parking by 4 (if sent there) and respect the privacy of our generous neighbours who have allowed us to walk through their property.
12.01.2022 Watch out for the Drop Bear at our third Annual Drop Bear Day. May 28th - last Sunday in May. Normal admittance prices at the gate ($5/$3 or $15 family of 2 +2).

10.01.2022 For those who are unsure of the exact location in regards to the Cudlee Creek fire: the sanctuary is currently safe. A major wind change and re-ignition may change that: that's life in Australia.

09.01.2022 Interesting facts about variation in koala characteristics
09.01.2022 Help urgently needed. Bunnings bbq TOMORROW 8 until 4 at Munno Para West (Curtis Rd) Everything is organised but the helpers are having problems : injuries and... illness. If you can offer a few hours it will be much appreciated. There is one all-day coordinator but others can only manage part of the day. In the past this has raised enough for over a month of feed. 05.01.2022 Storytelling tomorrow, Wednesday 17th, at the cottage, starting at 1:30. Normal admittance charged at the gate. Great boredom breaker. Listen to some stories, then see if you can find the type of animals that appear in the story. Photo of the titles we may read.

04.01.2022 Guess where I have been. They certainly have lots of varieties of apples at She's Apples Gawler. Thanks for the donated potatoes, (and my personal purchases of beautiful, fresh fruit and vegetables.) Food supplies are coming in for our Fete Day on Monday. I hope you are going to help me eat it.
03.01.2022 Looks like Lavish Design have their attention on other things this weekend, so won't be able to come to our FETE DAY. There are still 8 other stalls plus Facepainting by Sarah. Thanks for the cute pic, Lavish Design.

01.01.2022 We are often asked if there are snakes in the sanctuary. Yes, many wild snakes live here. Most are Eastern Browns or Red-bellied Blacks. None in cages. But don't worry. This video explains the most important things to know about aussie snakes. Note: "many bites are dry bites" (no venom injected). ... And "don't frighten them" (that's when they get defensive and are more likely to strike) https://www.facebook.com/151331901680/posts/10156622989296681/
01.01.2022 Unfortunately the sanctuary won't be open tomorrow, Saturday 20th. But if you want to feed the wallabies, you can come Sunday, Tuesday... Every other day. Or come for lunch and stay the day on MONDAY, for our FETE DAY. Check out "Events" post, or yesterday's post with changes, for more details. Photo shared for our use by an admirer. Thanks @Adamos kyriakou.
