16.01.2022 Putrid Parts presents the noisy wheel bearing!! We had a Ford Ranger come in last week with a noise coming from a wheel. Upon inspection and removal of the bearing we found that some of the bearings became dislodged! A wheel bearing is a set of steel balls held together in a metal ring, called a race. At the center of your wheels, there is a hollow piece of metal, called a hub. The wheel bearings fit tightly inside this hub, and ride on a metal axle shaft, helping reduce... friction when the wheel spins. Signs that your wheel bearings could be bad includes a grinding or grating noise coming from the wheel, steering becomes less responsive, vehicle can be pulling and uneven tyre wear.

15.01.2022 Funny Car Ads I bit hard to drive away I would think Happy Monday Everyone!

15.01.2022 Putrid Parts for this week is the leaking hydraulic timing belt tensioner The oil has leaked out from the piston which can cause the timing belt to become loose and then fail. The hydraulic system is mainly used on applications with high loads and/or angular vibrations, where a mechanical automatic tensioner cannot provide sufficient damping or tensioner movement.... A hydraulic tensioner system consists of a hydraulic actuator (which controls the dynamic belt forces) in combination with a tensioner pulley.

14.01.2022 Greg's Joke of the week (christmas special) What is the best Christmas present in the world? A broken drum, you just can't beat it!

12.01.2022 Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Years period. Hume Motors is well and truly back in the swing of things!! Our first putrid parts entry for 2020 is a Hyundai fuel filler hose. The customer could smell petrol and upon inspection found this hose was leaking, potentially very dangerous.

12.01.2022 The best Australian Built Car's: Today we take a look at the 1972 LJ Torana GTR XU-1 The LJ Torana GTR XU-1 was built for racing and proved that when it won in Bathurst in 1972, with a six-cylinder 3300 engine, 200 bhp and M20 four-speed transmission. Makers sought to give it more power by creating a version with a 308 ci engine but it did not go past the prototype stage due to the supercar scare that put much pressure on Australian carmakers to abandon their specially built ‘Bathurst Supercars’. Holden managed to release its improved version after two years, and contrary to popular belief, it is not a GTR XU-2, it’s still the same car with few upgrades.

11.01.2022 Greg's joke of the week A blonde takes a job at a technology start-up as an administrative assistant. The pay isn’t the best, but her compensation package includes stock options, and when the company goes public she finds herself with a lot of money on her hands. She decides to buy herself a new car. As she passes an exotic car dealership, she looks through the showroom window and sees a perfectly restored 1962 Jaguar E-type. She walks in and tells a salesman she abso...lutely MUST have the E-type, and that she can pay cash for it. A couple hours later, she drives away, the proud owner of the Jaguar. After driving for a few km's, though, the Jag begins misfiring. Eventually the engine sputters to a stop and she coasts to the side of the road, raises the bonnet, and waits for someone to help her. A man in a ute sees her and pulls over behind her car. That’s a beautiful car you have there, he says. Oh, thank you. I just bought it today, the blonde replies. So, what’s the matter? the guy asks. I don’t know, says the blonde. I was just driving along and it died on me. The guy walks back to his truck and gets a small toolbox. He spends a few minutes fiddling under the Jaguar’s hood, then says to the blonde, Why don’t you try to start it now? The blonde turns the key. The Jaguar’s engine fires up almost immediately and settles into a perfectly smooth idle. Thank you so much! she says to the man. What do I owe you for this? You don’t owe me anything he says. It was nothing, really. Just crap in the carburetors. Oh, says the blonde, with a puzzled look on her face. How often will I have to do that?

07.01.2022 Whats happening in the workshop??? Recently we had a customer bring in a vehicle with a flat tyre and and found the rim to be cracked.

03.01.2022 Happy Monday Everyone!!!

02.01.2022 Techie Tuesday - Today we take a look at a new gadget being developed by Bosch Bosch is currently developing a Virtual Vehicle Visor that you won’t have to take your hands off the wheel. This virtual gadget adjusts itself depending on where the sun is. In doing that, it’s able to consistently block the sun from impeding your view. Additionally, this car visor is made entirely of an LCD panel, so it makes the most of its space. With its driver-facing camera, this virtual visor knows exactly where you are at all times. That ensures that it’s able to accurately shade your eyes while you’re driving. When you’re on a long road trip, you won’t have to worry about adjusting your visor back and forth as the freeway curves and the sun moves across the sky.
