25.01.2022 Hume is home to many people of the Sikh faith (in fact, one of the world’s largest Gurdwaras is located in Craigieburn!) Mayor Cr Joseph Haweil and Hume City Council would like to congratulate Hume’s Sikh community on the 551th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak dev ji, founder of the Sikh faith. Sri Guru Nanak dev ji preached that all people should follow the path of truthfulness, the principle of meditation, selfless service and sharing (naam japo kirat karo).... Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Sikhs in Hume and around the world have come together to serve those in need, particularly through emergency food aid and relief. We congratulate Hume’s Sikh community on the occasion of this important anniversary and offer them our best wishes. Guru Purab di lakh lakh vadai.

25.01.2022 Play is our brain’s favourite way to learn. Our youngest residents need play to develop skills, confidence, creativity and even more importantly, make friends. The new playspace adjacent to the Hume Tennis and Community Centre is now open and is the perfect setting for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors. The site features a barbecue and shelter area, making it a space for the whole community.... With restrictions easing and summer approaching, we’d love to see more children and families safely enjoying the parks we have available in Hume. The Hume Tennis and Community Centre Playspace was delivered in partnership between Hume City Council and the Victorian Government. Thank you to Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence MP, for your support. 25.01.2022 This is staff member Kathy delivering an activity pack to a senior resident. Our Social Support Groups would usually be providing seniors in our community with gatherings and outings, programmed activities and active lifestyle programs. Social Support Groups can’t resume just yet, but we’re still here for our seniors.... While programs been on hold, we’ve been keeping in touch with our Social Support Group members, helping them connect online and supplying them with packs like this one with some fun things to do. (Social Support programs are Commonwealth Home Support funded and can be accessed through My Aged Care. You can find out more at hume.vic.gov.au/olderpeople)

16.01.2022 With more people on the road as restrictions easy, it is more important than ever to make sure you check that your airbags are safe. ACCC Product Safety has advised that there are still thousands of vehicles with recalled Takata airbags in Melbourne. These airbags are very dangerous and have the potential to explode with too much force, even in low-speed accidents. Check if your vehicle is affected by the Takata airbag recall here https://ismyairbagsafe.com.au/

16.01.2022 We welcome yesterday’s Victorian State Budget announcements. We have advocated long and hard on behalf of the community so it was great to see investment in Hume. Two key transport priorities are now progressing which will mean a quicker and safer commute for our residents. ... Upgraded and new schools will see our residents have education options closer to home. Opportunities for us to submit funding applications for community facilities, sports and library infrastructure programs is also welcome news. But, there is still much more work to be done! We’ll continue to advocate for further investment in our roads and public transport. Visit hume.vic.gov.au/advocacy to see how you can support us in ensuring Hume gets its fair share of investment.

11.01.2022 Today is hot - but definitely not as hot as the weather we’re expecting this Summer Sometimes our day is overloaded with tasks and distractions and we forget things. Remember to look before you lock to ensure your child or pet is not one of them. Creating a safer routine can help lower the risk of leaving a child or pet in a car. Below are some handy tips to start incorporating into your routine:... open the back door of the car every time you park, even if there is no one in the back seat place a child's bag or toy in the front seat as a reminder leave a bag, phone or wallet in the back seat of the car use a mirror for rear facing car seats create a mental list of things to check each time you leave the car, for example, 'baby, keys, wallet and phone.' 04.01.2022 We know that many of you have kept yourself busy over the past months by spring cleaning your homes, garages and storage areas. We are really pleased to see the amount of paint materials that are being recycled. Unfortunately the large volume of material has resulted in our paint recyclers, Paintback, being temporarily unable to keep up with the high level of collection and recycling. This means we can't accept paint at either of our sites Bolinda Road Resource Recovery C...entre (Campbellfield) or Sunbury Landfill and Transfer Station right now. We expect services to resume to normal over the next few weeks. In the meantime, please store paint material safely at your home until we are able to continue recycling it in the proper manner. For updates and further information, please visit the Paintback website at paintback.com.au/about/service-updates
