23.01.2022 "Children seek attention in order to feel safe/regulated. If they feel disregulated and disconnected from their parents, they instinctually feel insecure, so they make a connection bid. Often times, their connection bid is whining, aggression, misbehavior. This isn’t conscious or manipulative. Children are wired to seek connection with parents and explore boundaries. Connection is energy.... Children THRIVE on the energy we give them. Connection doesn’t require us sitting on the floor playing games we don’t enjoy. Connection can be created during routine activities. It’s about our energy and intention. We find those little moments to make eye contact, warm smiles, and soft touches. Some people are still planning to stay at home.... that’s okay. Be kind.... Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening.... that’s okay. Be kind. Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may possibly save their business or their homes....that’s okay. Be kind. Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off....that’s okay. Be kind. Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job....that’s okay. Be kind. Some will wear masks for weeks....that’s okay. Be kind. Some people will rush out to get the hair or nails done.... that’s okay. Be kind. The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and that’s okay. Be kind. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home. But be kind. If you go out, just respect others when in public and be kind! Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story. 01.01.2022 RESPECT AND LISTENING -Connection between parent and child This idea of mutual respect takes a few paradigm shifts: Our children come into this world admiring and trusting us. In fact, the sad part about this is if a child is mistreated, they believe something is wrong with them, not with their parent. ... Don’t take our child’s behaviour personally. Their behaviour is a signal as to what is going on internally. If they’re showing us disrespect, they feel disrespected. It starts with us. We set the tone. We’ve got to take ownership of the moment and be the one to extend respect FIRST. We can’t expect something from our children we’re not willing to give first. We’re the model. How do we model? Before we even initiate an interaction, trust that our child wants to do well. They instinctually want to feel connected to their parents. They come into the world admiring their parents, and parents are wired to admire their children. Remember marveling at those baby toes?
