Know where to turn off your power, gas and water supply in an emergency.... Make sure electrical equipment that is not in use is packed up and stored in a safe place. Unplug outside TVs and non-fixed aerials and store in a dry area. Switch off and unplug electrical equipment when a storm is approaching. Shut down your solar PV system using the safe isolation procedure. Move electrical equipment to higher locations if flood waters are expected. Stay away from powerlines and trees after a storm. 12.01.2022 SOLAR SWITCHBOARD UPGRADE Some information to consider for your switchboard when you are wanting to install a solar system on your property: In most situations, installing a solar system may only require one space in your current switchboard. ... If your house has an older fuse board it will require a newer Circuit breaker to be installed as per regulations. If there is enough space available in your switchboard or meter box for this to be installed, then a small retrofit circuit breaker is all that would be required. If there is no room, then there may be no other option but to install a new switchboard, but this will be a case by case basis and should be decided in conjunction with a qualified electrical contractor. Although not required a lot of the old switchboards do not have safety switches and installing solar may be a good opportunity to update your switchboard and make your installation safer, this is also a viable option for clients. This is an electrical power point and the previous installer used a lighting cable instead of a power cable, which has half the current carrying capacity! This was not detected by the circuit breaker size because it was rated to protect the power installation not a lighting cable. ... 01.01.2022 HUNDY ELECTRICAL had a call out after the Gold Coast got hit with the excessive rain in December, due to a fault somewhere as it was disconnecting the power to the client’s property. We discovered that the outdoor pergola was unfortunately leaking, and water was pooling inside one of the LED down lights. This light was damaged and was needing a full light replacement. It needed to be completely waterproofed by sealing the fitting from behind so it would no longer cause any future faults. HUNDY ELECTRICAL also recommended the client to have the pergola investigated further, to ensure all electrical installations within the pergola are safe and watertight.
