25.01.2022 As you all know we had a close call at Jodies Place with bush fires at North Rothbury, we were one of the lucky ones, but in saying that we do have a lot of wild life that we support in the way of making sure our bath tub is full so they will always have plenty too drink and the birds simply love BBQ shapes. It is because we support our own environment we are donating as many sheets, blankets and pillow cases we can, the pillow cases can be used as pouches for animals caugh...t in the horrendous bush fires and the sheets and blankets can be used for bedding etc., we will forward them on to the Animal Rescue Craft Guild, if you knit you can make mittens for burnt koalas and/or kangaroos or if you sew you can make mittens to cover their paws so please join us. You can join their group via Facebook. Thank you Leah for passing this information on it makes us feel less, useless. See more
25.01.2022 Just thought this may brighten up your day, thinking of you always Jodie.
25.01.2022 A big thank you to ALDI Maitland for their very generous donation, we are absolutely thrilled by what we received, we know the women and children staying at Jodies place are are very grateful. Merry Christmas to you all and we hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year.
24.01.2022 A very big thank you to the students of Rosary Park Catholic School Banxton for their tremendous effort in raising non perishable food plus toothpaste, soaps etc., for Jodies Place, there were so many donations it filled our van to capacity. Its wonderful to see young people helping those less fortunate, we would also like to say another big thank to the Principal and Teachers who also assisted
24.01.2022 Last week we received a call from the Manager of ALDI Maitland with donation for us to pick up, one of those items was the pink flamingo, after seeing he looked very lonely we decided to give him a family, the magpie seen in the last picture greets us every day for his biscuits. Jodies Place seems to be another world from the hectic life in the city and we are very proud to offer crisis accommodation for women and children in such serene surroundings with flora and fauna being our environment. Thank you to the Management and Staff of ALDI Maitland for their wonderful donations.
24.01.2022 Jodies flower standing tall and strong among all the confusion that is happening in the world. When you see the beauty of the flower it lets one know that Mother Nature has everything under control and it gives off a calming effect and a feeling that everything will be okay.
24.01.2022 What a wonderful and generous community we live in they have donated so much to Jodie’s Place/HDVSAS. We would like to say a big thank you to the following people: Silver Threads - Salvation Army Rutherford... Hughes Mechanical - East Branxton Crown Plaza - House Keeping Dept The wonderful woman who dropped off gift cards The girls from the Transitional Dept - Kurri Kurri Hospital (They worked with our Jodie). This past year has been tough for so many people, but in saying that they are still remembering those less fortunate, again without being too repetitive we should all agree that the Hunter Valley community are unique and giving people.
24.01.2022 A big thank you to Got Your Back Sista and the Cessnock Leagues Club for their wonderful evening on International Womens Day and especially for their kind donations
23.01.2022 A normal Monday morning at Jodie’s Place.
23.01.2022 Our babies are all grown up?
23.01.2022 We as a service have been saying for years that statistics lie, you never get the real truth relying on stats, so many cases go under reported that to get a true number is unrealistic. A lot of women find themselves in financial abuse and do not realise the situation until too late.. Our Phoenix Group educates women on the many aspects of domestic violence and one facet of the program focuses on financial abuse, which sadly is all to common.
22.01.2022 Received wonderful news this morning, Myers Charlestown is making us the charity of choice for this financial year, isnt that marvellous it took our breath away when we received the call. A very extra big thank you to the Management and Staff for selecting us, you are all wonderful in the way you give back to the community. We always knew Myers were philanthropic in the way they assist community services with grants etc., we are just so lucky to be one of their recipients. As you can appreciate our source of monetary donations have dried up as it has for other NFP organisations in this terrible climate we now find ourselves, but its great to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.
22.01.2022 Our special thanks and appreciation go to a wonderful group from Belford Hunter Women’s Connect for their fabulous donation of $2300.00. 100% of money donated goes directly into keeping Jodie’s Place operating and with the assistance of our community and our fantastic team of volunteers we will be here for as long as we are needed.
22.01.2022 On the 27th of July we attended a Trivia night run by Branxton Lions where we were one of the recipients. Just five minutes ago Brian from Branxton Lions just dropped in a cheque for $1696.33. Our many thanks goes to the people who put in all the hard work to make the night such a success, most of us know that it takes months to organise such an event. ... A big thank you to all the wonderful people who attended the Trivia Night, your generosity for the three charities on the night was fantastic.
22.01.2022 There are no words left to describe what is happening in our society when it comes to domestic violence, no matter what the Police do or even what action the judicial system does in way of sentencing etc., this horrible blight is still happening, and the sad part its happening somewhere in homes as we write this. Violence seems to be the answer for everything from school bullying, bullying in the workplace or even road rage. Are we so angry as a society that the only way we can handle things is to hurt or kill someone!!!!
21.01.2022 Received wonderful news this morning, Myer’s Charlestown is making us the charity of choice for this financial year, isn’t that marvellous it took our breath away when we received the call. A very extra big thank you to the Management and Staff for selecting us, you are all wonderful in the way you give back to the community. We always knew Myers were philanthropic in the way they assist community services with grants etc., we are just so lucky to be one of their recipients. As you can appreciate our source of monetary donations have dried up as it has for other NFP organisations in this terrible climate we now find ourselves, but it’s great to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.
21.01.2022 Hi everyone, sometimes you may think our Doo Stop Op Shop is a little bit more expensive then other op shops, the reason for this is we pay close to $1600.00 in rent each month plus excess water and of cause phone and power. After we have paid out our expenses the rests goes to keeping Jodies Place operating, as we have stated before Jodies Place is not government funded, we rely solely on our wonderful community and have for the past seven years. So please when you visit us and make a purchase, except for the shop expenses you are assisting a local womens and childrens refuge, you never know when you, a relative or even friend may need our services in the future and we certainly want to be there for those women and children escaping domestic violence.
21.01.2022 On behalf of the committee and our very special volunteers we wish everyone of our friends a very merry and safe Christmas and thank you for all your support us during the year. Over the past year we have been truly blessed by all the donations we have received and sometimes a thank you never seems enough, but please believe us we are truly thankful and enormously grateful for without your generosity HDVSAS and Jodies Place would not be able to assist women and children esca...ping domestic violence. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year love from all in our team.
21.01.2022 They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn; At the going down of the sun, and in the morning , We will remember them. Lest we forget For all you have sacrificed in keeping our wonderful country safe, we say a humble thank you.
20.01.2022 These are just a few examples of the wonderful and colourful blankets and beanies that the agile fingers of the ladies from the Red Cross knitted for Jodies Place. Thank you all so very much the women will love them and a thank you Anges sister
20.01.2022 On behalf of the committee and volunteer staff we would like to send our condolences to the people of Manchester after the terrible terrorist attack which cost the lives of 19 people? and injured 59 which sadly could grow over a period of time. It is so hard to comprehend that you send your children to a concert and some bastard (sorry about the language) decides to blow himself up. Our prayers and love are with you all
20.01.2022 What a wonderful week this has been for our service due to the generosity of our wonderful community. We would like to say thank you to the Wollombi Garden Club for the wonderful donations that will be passed on to the women staying at Jodie’s Place. They are a remarkable group of women who have been supporting us for some time now. Talking about remarkable people, we would also like to thank Weston Machine Shop for their donation of $1,000.00, They have been very generous t...o Jodie’s place for a few years now, guys we love you all and Tina thank you. Another big thank you to Ausmech Pty Ltd Singleton for their donation of $580.00 it was a wonderful surprise when Jen sent us an email re the donation, thank you everyone who participated your all fabulous. The Hunter Valley businesses and the community as a whole have to be the most generous people in Australia, especially with the tough times we find ourselves living in, where many people are struggling on a day by day basis. It makes our work at Jodie’s Place a whole lot easier knowing the community is behind the work we do.
19.01.2022 Our heart felt thanks goes to St Philips Christian Shool and their year 11 students for the wonderful Christmas donations. St Philips has supported Jodies Place at Christmas time for some years now and we really appreciate their support as do the women and children. Again thank you students and a very big thank you to their parents. ... See more
18.01.2022 Today we decided that it was our turn to give back to our wonderful community, we dropped off boxes of feminine hygiene products, tooth paste and tooth brushes, some hair shampoo and conditioners to Compass Housing for the homeless. We were going to donate them to Hunter Homeless but after talking with a worker from Compass they said they also look after the homeless so we decided to donate them to Compass. Homeless people are the most vulnerable in our society and if we can ...assist them in some small way that makes us happy. We have been very blessed by the donations we have received over the years from our fabulous community and we thought you cannot always just take without giving something back in return, especially where there are people In need, its who we are. Hope you are all safe and well.
18.01.2022 Just thought we would let you know we are now heading into the fourth week of no internet at Jodies Place. Every time we speak with Telstra we get a different person and have to explain the situation over and over again ad nauseam Its getting to be a real joke except its not funny.
17.01.2022 Due to the COVID 19 virus Hunter DomesticViolence Support Advisory Services will only be operating on an outreach basis. We really do not want to go down this path but we need to protect our volunteers and residents. To all our wonderful friends please stay healthy and hopefully everything will return to normal very soon.
17.01.2022 Just an update we are now going into our fourth week without internet. We have been in contact with telecommunications Ombudsman, they are giving Telstra until the 1st of November to fix the problem. What happens after that only God knows. Its not that we just got the internet for the first time, we have been here at Jodies Place since 2013, we have never been offered NBN, told we are too far away to pick up NBN thats why we still have ADSL. We would love to see the whole of Telstras internet shut down, maybe and just maybe they would know whats it like to be a business without internet.
16.01.2022 A big thank you goes to St. Philips Christian College year 11 for their fabulous collections of toys, food etc. donated especially for the women and children of Jodies Place. This is the fourth year St Philips Christian College has donated toys etc., and we are so proud to be the recipients of such wonderful gifts, a thank you must also go to the teachers who always give us a warm welcome every time we attend the school. We hope you all have a very Merry and safe Christma...s. See more
16.01.2022 We would like to thank the Branxton Lions for their wonderful trivia night held at the Branxton Golf Club last night. Just when one thinks they have a general knowledge on most things we sadly find out theres a lot more we dont know, our congratulations go to the team that won on the night. This is the second year that the Branxton Lions have held the trivia night where Jodies Place was one of the recipients and we are ever so appreciative, as we do understand all the har...d work that goes into organising a Trivia Night. Great work everyone and a great night had by all.
15.01.2022 The reason no one has heard from us in a while is the fact that with all the precautions taken which I must be honest did not include a flue injection (it wasnt going to happen to me) Paula came down with the dreaded flue which has laid me up for over a week. But things are on the improve and we will be back to normal tomorrow. I really missed all you guys. I would love to thank Jo and Paula 2 who came to my rescue so Jodies place is going full steam and of cause a big hug and thank you to Kim, Libby, Melissa and the wonderful work for the dole volunteers who keep the shop operating. Hunter Domestic Violence Support & Advisory Services is so lucky to have such wonderful and loving friends .
15.01.2022 We are having some very beautiful visitors since we have started to feed the wild life, this is an adorable couple who is just one of the species we see daily, with all the doom and gloom we see on a daily basis we thought they may put a smile on someones face, they are rainbow lorikeets.
14.01.2022 Wouldnt these make a difference to Jodies Place especially for the women and children escaping domestic violence, of cause that would be with Huntlees permission. It would give the women and children a more personal space during their stay because communal living can be very hard, but also it would take some very serious fund raising on our behalf and Im not quiet sure the organisation is in Australia. Well they can go on our wish list for the future. like the old Anthony... Horderns Store motto "while we live we grow". http://www.msn.com//flat-pack-tiny-homes-you-c/ss-AAE6226 See more
13.01.2022 A big thank you to the wonderful community of Wollambi and especially Marilyn who organised the raffle and a extra special thank you must go to the fabulous woman who did all the hard work in making all items that were raffled. They raised $391.00 for Jodies Place, we are so very proud to be associated with such a wonderful community
13.01.2022 We are in great need of a large skip and we need your assistance in acquiring one, the last time we got a skip from a local company it cost us over $2000.00 and we certainly do not have that amount to spare again, even with us begging to get a discount being a community domestic violence service he would not agree. Every year we close Jodies Place for two to three weeks for maintenance, which means changing soiled mattresses, getting rid of old toys, broken electrical appli...ances, washing walls, getting carpets cleaned, making sure bathrooms and bedrooms are spotless and in working order and the list goes on. If anyone has any contacts with a company who owns and/or operates skips and would be willing to assist we would be eternally grateful. Thank you from all at Jodies Place.
13.01.2022 We had a very exciting start on the weekend, first we received news we are now the charity of choice of Myers Charlestown for a period of time, to say we are thrilled would be an understatement. Thank you to all the wonderful management, staff and customers of Myers. Secondly we received $5000.00 from the management and staff of Qube Ports at Kooragang, again what a wonderful group of people, thank you all so very much. What a way to start a weekend!!!!!!... 12.01.2022 We may have been hacked please do not open any messages sent from us. Thank you
11.01.2022 The Committee and our wonderful volunteers wish all our fabulous friends a very happy Easter, also be careful of those chocolate Easter eggs they can become habit forming lol!! .
10.01.2022 We are all home and safe, thank you to all those fabulous people for checking up on us to see if we were okay. Its a tad frightening when the rural fire service texts us telling us to seek shelter and you hear sirens everywhere. A big thank you to the Magnificent firefighters, water dropping helicopters and Police who assisted us during the bush fire, you all deserve medals or better still a pay increase. Love you all Jodies Place is in good hands.
10.01.2022 We now have our 46 cut ride on mower , a very big thank you to Cessnock Rotary and Bellbird Workers Club for their generosity in assisting us in purchasing the ride on mower. Along with the mower we also obtain a small trailer, which will cut the time in half looking after the grounds. A very big thank you to Kawasaki Connection in Vincent St Cessnock who gave us such a great deal on mower plus sold us the trailer for half price. Isnt it wonderful to see how a community c...an assist local services. See more
10.01.2022 On behalf of the Committee and volunteers we would like to wish all our friends a very Merry and safe Christmas and a Happy New Year, we will see you all next year, and let’s hope we have a much better 2021 then we did in 2020. Please stay COVID 19 safe
09.01.2022 To call this person a man is an insult to all good men, this is a monster thats the only name we can call him without using expletives.
09.01.2022 We are experiencing Telstra trouble with our 024990 9609 it is coming up disconnected. We have been on the Telstra business line repeatedly and have told after waiting nearly 2 hours each time that the problem has been solved. So please we are still operating and you can contact us 0488246693. Sorry about the inconvenience.
09.01.2022 Last night the team when down to Myers Charlestown to pick up a cheque for $1792.75 which is a donation collected from the wonderful customers of Myers. A big thank you also goes to Myers management and staff you are doing an absolutely wonderful job looking after the community in the Hunter Valley and we as a service couldn’t be more proud to be associated with such a great philanthropic family such as Myers. Krissy we haven’t forgotten you thank you for such a wonderful wel...come you and your team showed us last night. See more
08.01.2022 A normal Monday morning at Jodies Place.
07.01.2022 A very big thank you to Qube Ports Newcastle for their very kind donation of $3500.00. We are so proud that such a big business like Qube Ports has taken the time to donated to our organisation over a period of years and we are extremely grateful to the Management and Staff, whom without their assistance Jodie’s’s Place would be struggling to operate. I’m sorry to be so repetitive, but we are so lucky to be in an area where businesses and people are so generous.... See more
06.01.2022 We would love to thank the Cessnock City Council for their wonderful donation, it came as a complete surprise and couldnt have come at a more appropriate time, again thank you.
06.01.2022 Share the dignity dropped off wonderful handbags for the women staying at Jodies Place for the next 12 months. What a great surprise for the women, there are hygiene products plus shampoos, conditioners, creams, soaps, deodorants, note pads etc., but what we felt that was so very special is the personal notes left in each bag for the women to read, it makes the gift so much better and makes each woman feel very special, which they need, because domestic violence steals the... very essence of who the woman was in her other life before the violence started. Again thank you Share the Dignity you are very caring and giving people.
06.01.2022 Another big thank you goes to Jennifer and her a Girl Guides for their fabulous donation of $100 which they turned into 5 $20 Coles vouchers. The money was raised by a games night the guides held. The community spirit is alive and well in the Branxton area.
05.01.2022 Well by God knows has happened, Telstra sent an email in part stating there is nothing further I can offer, I trust I have addressed all your concerns, we have now closed your complaint, ADSL isnt going to happen any time soon, because they havent been able to connect to an exchange that works for our internet, though it has been working for seven years. We still have no internet we have not been offered NBN through Telstra, we are in the pass the parcel stage when things get too hard, so naturally we will still be going through the Telecommunications Ombudsmen. We would love to see Telstras internet go down and see how they handle the case, maybe they will have to close down because there is nothing more they can do to get their internet up and running, welcome to our world.
04.01.2022 A very big thank you to Gutter Vac and their team for cleaning out our gutters in preparation for the bush fire season pro bono. We are so proud that such a busy organisation took the time out from their busy schedules to work on out gutters. It wasnt a small job as birds just love dropping seeds, hence we have greenery growing in the said gutters, which if not attended too could become a fire hazard during the summer season. Again this shows how great businesses are in the ...Hunter Valley and how they open their hearts and wallets to assist those less fortunate. See more
01.01.2022 There’s two special people we forgot to thank Bryce and Melissa Gibson from LJ Hooker Real Estate Cessnock who donated women’s handbags full of goodies. Bryce and Melissa has been very generous over the years and we appreciated their generosity to Jodie’s Place.
