25.01.2022 The grand plan for my return to running has been chopped and changed all over the place thanks to crazy weather, work and family commitments. But the good news is, I’ve been for two run/walks with another on the cards for tomorrow and I’m pain and injury free. After my first run, I realised that my starting point was too easy (1 min run/5 min walk) so I increased run time to 2 mins and reduced walking to 3 mins as repeated this 4 times for my second run. Tomorrow I’m ...running for 3 and walking for 2 repeated 4 times. The important thing about having a grand plan is knowing that it can be changed as many times as needed as long as you stick to the underlying idea!! Check out our story to see my progress so far! #podiatry #returntorunning #healthylifestyle #fitness #returntotraining #running

24.01.2022 Uncertain times can often lead to fear and panic At HPS we have been following the ever evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and monitoring both advice from the World Health Organisation, Australia’s Chief Medical Officer and NSW health Please take a minute to listen to Luke as he explains what HPS is doing amidst the COVID-19 outbreak ... IN SUMMARY We are open and offering all services at all clinics. We have changed some of our check in procedures to minimise risk of infection. We always have and will continue to follow National sterilisation guidelines. For now and into the foreseeable future we are doubling down on the standard to provide the safest environment for our patients and community. You, our patients and our community are important to us and we want you to feel safe and healthy at this time. If you have any concerns or worries feel free to contact us on 1800 MY FEET

23.01.2022 Thankful Thursday!! It’s that time of the week again and in honour of Mother’s Day this weekend, we thought we’d pause to give thanks to mums!!! This year more than ever, being a mum is a bit challenging!! There are mums out there today working from home, schooling their kids at home, looking after elderly relatives and cleaning every part of the house within an inch of its life to keep everyone healthy! All whilst maintaining a calm, patient and d...ignified persona (most of the time anyway!!) So this year more than ever we say thanks mum. Thanks for the laughs, love and lollies. Thanks for the chaos, calamity and care. Thanks for putting up with the trouble, tears and tantrums (as well as having some yourself!) So, for a bit of fun, we’re putting up some pictures of the mums of Hunter Podiatry. See if you can match the mums to their HPS child (check out our story to see the answers!!) #bethankful #mums #love #family #notallheroeswearcapes #familyfun #gratitude #mothersday

23.01.2022 How many times over the years have you wished for more time to spend with your family? More time to learn new things? More time to spend on bettering yourself? More me time? Well, now we’re all in a position where the universe is almost forcing us to slow down, take a deep breath and re-evaluate. And giving us the OPPORTUNITY to do all of the above. Mindset is important. It’s very easy to look at this period of social distancing as boring or frustrating. It’s also e...asy to lament what we’ve lost. So, change the way you think about it! Look at the options ahead of you instead of the limitations. Choose to make the most of this time and grow. Use this time to reconnect with the ones you live with. Use it to learn a new language or a new skill. Use it to develop your side hustle. There are plenty of companies offering free subscriptions and free learning at the moment to help us all get through this together. Everything from free art lessons, free home workout ideas, free guitar lessons and even free TAFE courses. Want to know what the HPS team is doing with this opportunity??? Check out our story to find out.

22.01.2022 Ever wondered what the HPS team gets up to outside of work??? Well, Social Saturday is going to be your new favourite day of the week!! It’s a little tricky to socialise in person these days, so we’re going to ‘virtually’ spend time with you! Each Saturday, we will post some pics in our story of what we’re up to while we’re social distancing! It might give you some ideas of what you could do with your family. Or it may just show you how wacky we are This week we start with a week in the life of Jess O’Neill. The legend, the larrikin, the dog lover. #podiatry #socialdistancing #lifeoutsideofwork #family #social #goodfun #wereallinthistogether #staysafe

18.01.2022 It’s Workout Wednesday again!!! Keeping fit and active is more important than ever. And for most of us, we have more time than ever before to devote to our own health. It’s also one of the few reasons you’re allowed to leave your house so why not use that time wisely?? We know that some days it’s tempting to lounge like a lizard all day (in your PJs no less!) but try to plan something active into each day. It will ease the boredom, improve your physical and mental fitness... and help you to cultivate new skills and interests. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy as these comic book heroes can attest to!!! Let us know in the comments what you’ve been doing to keep fit and stay healthy everyone

18.01.2022 Wishing everyone a healthy and happy New year. From the team @hunterpodiatryservices

13.01.2022 Some of our favourite patients at Hunter Podiatry are our Vets. They have the most amazing stories to share, a wealth of knowledge and experience and a beautiful perspective on life. I think we’ve all been guilty of feeling a little sorry for ourselves recently. But the difficulties that we face today are nothing in comparison to what our soldiers and their families have faced over the years. We worry about having enough toilet paper. They worried about having enough food to... eat, enough clothing for warmth and enough luck to survive the day. We can still connect instantly with family and friends thanks to the beauty of modern technology. They had pen and paper. And tragically, many soldiers were killed in the time it took their letter to reach their families at home. So today, take a minute to be thankful for how lucky we are. And remember all those who have fought and fallen. We Thank you for your sacrifice #anzacday #veterans #bethankful #remember #sacrifice #australianpride #lestweforget #thankyou See more

12.01.2022 Welcome To Gabby. Gabby is excited to start at HPs after spending the last 12 months working in central Australia, Gabby will be working Monday, Wednesday and Friday at our Maitland Clinic and Tuesday and Thursday at our Rutherford Clinic. Why Podiatry? I have always wanted to work in a job where I am helping people and I find keeping people on their feet incredibly rewarding! ... I also love the versatility of the job, keeps me on my toes What do you do with your time away from the clinic? Most weekends I am out on the lake water skiing. I enjoy going for runs, catching up with friends and family and road tripping up the coast camping! Best birthday present and why A surfboard from my parents- learning has been fun and very challenging for me, something I have never done before- if you have any tips I’ll take them Who motivates you to be the best version of yourself and why? Hard to narrow it down to one, everyone I surround myself with encourages me to strive to be a better version of myself. My parents have always been very supportive and encouraging of everything I do. I am also motivated by podiatrists who share the same passions as I do, learning off each other and striving to be the best version of myself. What makes podiatry a great career? It’s a profession which promotes a healthy and active lifestyle. It is a very versatile job, which makes the day very interesting. It is exciting to see where our profession is headed!

Now is a perfect opportunity to sort out those niggles that have been bothering you. You don’t want to be forced to the sidelines for something that could have been preventable

11.01.2022 Workout Wednesday!!! It’s very tempting during this period of relative isolation to become sloth-like, laze about on the couch in your jammies and lose yourself in five hours of watching Heartland (or so I’ve heard!!!) And with gyms closing, sports being on hold and new rules about boot camps/outdoor gatherings, being physically active is a bit more of a challenge than it used to be. BUT it is more important than ever to look after your physical health. Apart fr...om the fact that keeping healthy will boost your immune system and help you fight off the virus, being active has such a MASSIVE positive effect on your mental health. It releases endorphins, dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin - like nature’s own feel-good smoothie!! Under the government’s current guidelines, you are still encouraged to participate in some form of physical activity each day. We just have to be a bit more creative about it! You can walk, ride a bike, ride a horse, use a home gym or go for a trail run. Or you can ‘Just Dance!’ like me!! Add a comment to share what you’ve been doing to keep active and stay healthy! #socialdistancing #stayactive #physicalhealth #fitness #fun #healthylife #dancelikenooneiswatching See more

10.01.2022 Last night Jess had the pleasure of heading to Charlestown Netball Association as part of the Aspire Netball program run by Sam Poolman This program is not only aimed at increasing the girls skills and ability on court but also aimed at education on prevention of injury. Sam and Jess realised that learning how to tape an ankle is such a helpful tool for these girls to have on their belt, not always to benefit themselves but also to help out a team mate too! These girls had an awesome crack at taping with lots of laughs along the way. The first attempt is always tricky but practice does make perfect!! #anounceofpreventionisworthapoundofcure #netball #stability #ankles #prevention #tape #learning #teamwork #education #injuryprevention #practicepracticepractice @ Charlestown Netball Association Inc.

09.01.2022 Getting back into training or starting a new type of training? It’s important not to go too hard too fast. Our bodies need to be put under a bit of stress to make them adapt and get stronger but it should be done carefully to avoid injury and pain. Check out our insta story later or Facebook page to follow along with our podiatrist, Kristen, as she returns to running. And head over to the Hunter Podiatry webpage to read all about returning to training safely ...in our blog ‘Zero to Hero’ https://hunterpodiatry.com.au/zero-to-hero-return-to-exerc/ #training #podiatry #sportspodiatry #fitness #health #healthylifestyle #returntorunning

08.01.2022 Mindfulness Monday We’re in unchartered territory at the moment and here at Hunter Podiatry Services we understand that there are many people out there who may be finding things difficult and scary at the moment. But it’s important to remember that we’re all in this together and it will pass. At this time more than ever it’s important to take some time out each day to pause and appreciate the simple beauty in something. It could be a sunrise, maybe cooking and eating a meal... with your partner and kids or even just having a sleep in! And when this is all over, we will definitely have a greater appreciation of all that we once took for granted; from being able to hug a friend to being able to regularly buy toilet paper. Even just having a job will be treasured for the privilege that it is. If you’re looking for ideas of some simple things to enjoy while you’re social distancing, check out our insta story to see what the crew at HPS have been up to when they’re not busy fixing feet! #podiatry #health #mindfulness #peace #socialdistancing #wereallinthistogether #lookafteryourself #stayhome #pauseandappreciate See more

08.01.2022 Thankful Thursday! We’re all slowly adapting to our new world and perhaps missing parts of our life that are currently on hold. But I was reading an article written by an Indian doctor recently who pointed out that if you have a house to self isolate in and if you have soap to wash your hands, then you are rich indeed! So yes, there are a lot of things that we are unable to do for the moment. But we’re so lucky that we’ve been able to do them in the past. And lucky t...hat we will be able to do them again in the future In the meantime, we still have SO much to be thankful for. Thankful to have a roof over our heads, thankful to have our family at home, thankful to have a job (if we still do), thankful for time with our kids and thankful to be able to communicate and relax with loved ones thanks to a bit of modern technology. Want to know what the team at Hunter Podiatry are thankful for??? 04.01.2022 Fact or fiction?!! Could an elephant’s foot look freakishly like a human foot under x-ray?

04.01.2022 A big Warm Welcome To Georgina. Georgina will be working Monday, Wednesday and Friday at our Maitland Clinic and Tuesday and Thursday at our Greenhills Clinic. Why podiatry? I decided to become a Podiatrist because I’ve always wanted to do something in the health industry that was exciting and different. I love that we have a wide range of treatments we can do, things like foot/ankle/knee pain, orthotics, general nail care, paediatrics, nail surgery, diabetic assessments, ...footwear education and the list goes on. I also wanted to help people become pain free and have healthy feet because it is a very rewarding experience. What do you do with your time away from the clinic? I love getting outdoors and spending time with family and friends. In Winter I play AFL for the Cardiff Hawks and in Summer I love playing social basketball. I also have a Jack Russell named Inka, who demands a lot of my husband and I attention (she’s the perfect excuse to get out everyday for a walk). Best birthday present and why My husband got me a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb one year. It was a fantastic experience and one I won’t forget. Who motivates you to be the best version of yourself? To be honest, I couldn’t put it down to just one person. My parents have always motivated me to do my best at school, uni, sports and everyday life. My three older sisters have been incredible role models and motivate me to be better. My husband is always encouraging me and supporting me in everything I do. And of course, my patients and team at Hunter Podiatry make me strive everyday to be better. What makes Podiatry a great career? Like I said in my first question, there is such a wide range of things we can do. It never gets boring and there is always something new to learn or become better at.

03.01.2022 Tips for Tuesday!! I think when this pandemic is all over, there will be a newfound respect and appreciation for our teachers!! I used to be a teacher before I became your friendly podiatrist and I can tell you, it’s a hard job! In the meantime, if your child is at home from school at the moment, try to spend at least a little bit of each day doing something other than schoolwork! Of course it’s important to get their class work done, but right now it’s not just a...bout academics. And if it’s getting to the point where you are both stressed and frustrated, do something else! Your child is not expected to sit all day and work their way through the online lessons. They don’t do that at school so they don’t need to do it at home. We live in a busy world and it’s rare to get some quality time with your kids so enjoy it while you can. Teach them how to cook, build a model, paint a picture, dance in the kitchen, plant a herb garden, go for a bike ride, teach them a new card game, do a puzzle, play video games together... the list is endless. For me today, it was baking some banana and blueberry muffins. It’s a shame he’s better at eating them than cleaning up after making them! Check out our insta story to see the recipe and the finished product!! #socialdistancing #cookingwithkids #familytime #itsnotallbad #delicious #enjoyitwhileyoucan #stayhome #tomorrowsmorningtea

03.01.2022 Howdily Doodily Foot friends! One of the many tests we do in our assessment of BUNIONS, is testing the movement and motion of the big toe while you are up on your feet. What this test tells us is how well your big toe functions when you are walking. The better the function of the big toe, the easier it is for your foot to propel you forward. As you can see here, when we lift that big toe, there is plenty of movement (awesome from Lara)! This then starts a chain reaction of ...events to help the foot stiffen and push you forward! If we do this test and there is little to no movement of the toe, that chain reaction doesn't occur and the foot doesn't let you propel very well, leading to compensations which can cause BUNIONS!!! If you are experiencing any concerns with your feet, give us a call on 1800 MY FEET, or drop in and speak to the foot experts here at Hunter Podiatry Services and we can talk you through a plan of action to keep you up and active for the Summer!!
