24.01.2022 Update on Polox events 2020 Local practices and coaching have been going well. We would encourage all Clubs to consider options for local coaching and green ho...rse chukka days. Sept / Oct is now looking more likely as the restart for our NSW season, with a good run of events planned. Unfortunately the Galloping Gully carnival has been cancelled. The PAA have also advised that no Top Gun events will now be held in 2020. Hunter Valley are still considering the format for their event on 29th / 30th August. So watch this space.

21.01.2022 We have decided not to run the 2 Hunter Valley run carnivals penciled in for 22-23 and 29-30 August 2020. We feel that the current Covid-19 situation in NSW is currently unpredictable, and at this stage it is not safe to run these carnivals. The safety of our members is our number one priority.... 19.01.2022 Narrabri Cancelled, but don't put your horses out yet ! The Narrabri Club carnival for 2020 has been cancelled. The PA NSW Board understands and respects the d...ecision of the Narrabri club and will continue to work closely with clubs planning to host events in 2020 to provide the support necessary to keep our sport going in these uncertain times. A new fixtures list will be put up on the Website, but at this stage Galloping Gully is still running on 8th / 9th August, Top Gun Coaching is going ahead at Wagga on 22nd / 23rd August, and Hunter Valley Polocrosse will attempt to run two events at Coolah over the weekends of 22/23 August and 29/30 August. Hopefully Sept / October will bring spring weather and some more polocrosse played across NSW. Remember all events this year are now 'multi horse', and a great opportunity to give the younger ones a run.

17.01.2022 Latest update from NSW Polocrosse

17.01.2022 NSW 2020 Polocrosse Season - Update It is with regret we need to advise members that due to the ongoing COVID crisis, the NSW carnivals that had been planned f...or the later half of 2020 have been cancelled. Our Host Clubs are concerned for the welfare of their communities and the inherent risk of bringing COVID into these communities. PA NSW would however support and encourage all Clubs and Zones to conduct Training / Coaching and green horse events. The seasons are finally being kind to us, the dust has gone and the weather is warming up. So now is a good chance to bring out the younger and green horses in non competitive environments. PA NSW will be discussing with the PAA Board options for NSW fees for 2020 and 2021. We will advise members as soon as a decision is made. Please note all Registered members are still covered by PAA insurance for practice and coaching in 2020. Bring on 2021 ! P

08.01.2022 Hello Everyone Your help is needed please. As some you maybe aware this amazing woman by the name of Kristy Bullen is tackling breast cancer unfortunately th...is is her 2nd diagnoses. She fought and beat the 1st one having her breast removed, undergoing chemo and radiation now roughly 18 months on and it has returned in her other breast. Kristy is not a person to ask for help, she is strong, determined, inspiring and always willing to help others. Well now I would like you all to help her. She is an extremely talented photographer whom you see at all sorts of horse events from Ag shows, breed shows, polocrosse, campdrafting, pony club and jumping to name a few. What I am asking of you all is if you have ever had a photo taken by Kristy and you have always loved it but never got around to purchasing it. Please head over to her website and please order those photos or buy one of her amazing prints. Let’s help this amazing young woman battle this nasty disease. We have other ideas we are working on as well to help raise a little money so Kristy won’t have rush back to work after surgery, help her with travel costs and just help take a little worry away. If anyone is keen to help out please let me know. https://www.facebook.com/misskayellebee/

07.01.2022 16th October 2020 Dear Hunter Valley members I hope you are all having a good season and have made the most of your time at home this past winter. It has cert...ainly been different without polocrosse getting us all together. The PANSW Board recently held a zoom meeting with all the zone presidents to explain and discuss the outcomes from their recent strategic planning meeting. The board have spent considerable time trying to plan the best way to invigorate a return to polocrosse whilst still being practical and mindful of the restrictions placed upon us by COVID. They have come up with some proposals to help attract our existing members as well as making polocrosse more accessible to new players and those who may have once competed but have since left our sport. In 2021 emphasis will be placed on getting club polocrosse up and running during the first half of the year. Representative Polocrosse will be pushed to the second half of the year. This approach would allow for a ramping up of the season, letting players start off locally and regionally. The time and money required for representative duties would not be lost if there was a reintroduction of restrictions due to COVID. It is suggested that clubs look outside of the traditional winter period for holding their carnivals. Will it make it more enjoyable and attractive to players if they are not working horses during the cold miserable months? Why don’t we extend our season further into spring and autumn? Obviously the climate is different in various areas but we should be able to collaborate with clubs in our region to get a few events on in better weather. There will be no representative carnivals in autumn which should make it easier for us to put some dates together. It is proposed that all club carnivals will have the option of being multi horse. An interesting proposal is the inclusion of a Non-competitive Grade (NCG) at each carnival. The NCG would run in addition to the regular competition. The rationale is that this form of polocrosse may be attractive and accessible to more players. There are a few suggestions for NCG format: White pants and plaited tails would not be necessary All rules pertaining to horse welfare and player safety would still need to be followed Players could play in either the NCG or the ‘regular’ competition. They could also play in the regular competition and double up in the NCG on a green horse. If their games clashed they could get someone to cover their game in the NCG. Players could make up teams with their family and friends (at the host club discretion) Players could nominate for 1 day or the whole weekend. Players progressing past Blue Bandage may find this a good stepping stone to ‘regular’ competition, having the opportunity to play with higher standard players. All in all the message is that we need to think outside the square and be more flexible in our approach to polocrosse. COVID is just one of the contributors to loss of membership, our sport has been in steady decline for a few years now. The old saying is If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got. PANSW are trying to invigorate our sport and I encourage all our members to support their efforts. Go on a membership drive, hold some coaching, some practices, encourage anyone you know with a horse to have a go. Our sport is going to need your support in 2021. If anyone has any questions or would like to discuss prior to the PANSW Half Yearly meeting (25.10.20) please give me call. Graham Wilson Hunter Valley Zone President.
