21.01.2022 Centre CLOSED Today Tuesday17 November due to storm damage.

21.01.2022 Smashed! From the amount of damage, the winds must have been wild here last night. Volunteers are hard at work dealing with fallen trees and branches all over the site. Good news is that the egret nesting area has not sustained damage.

20.01.2022 From Monday 23 November all visitors and volunteers will need to register their details digitally when they arrive at HWC. The easiest way is to download a free QR code scanner to your mobile phone (some new phones dont require this). There is also an option to send an SMS (message) to register. If you dont have a mobile phone volunteers will help you register. This rule will now apply to lots of venues. nsw.gov.au/news/mandatory-customer-check-for-nsw-venues

19.01.2022 Another Wetlands Mystery solved! Remember last year we turned to FB and asked if anyone knew anything about a giant, mysterious, bell that has always been in our display cabinet but no one knew why? The post was very popular at the time, lots of comments, likes and shares but alas the owner was never identified. ... THAT IS UNTIL NOW! Julie, one of our wonderful volunteers has found the owner. It belongs to The Hamilton Rugby Club (specifically The Old Boys Club) and they are delighted to have their bell back. Tony Morris collected it last week - it's very heavy but headed back to where it belongs. Well done Julie!

18.01.2022 Thanks for the shout out Sharon Claydon MP. We often have volunteers through our canoe channel picking up bags of rubbish. It is particularly bad after large downpours as the rubbish seems to wash through more... Recycle what you can. Pick up waste when you can. Stay safe and do it hygienically. ... Thank you for your on going support.

13.01.2022 Superwoman alert! We’re sure you seen the wonderful Val Noake around the Wetlands. She’s the lady that makes stuff happen! Val is not only the office manager, school holiday and events coordinator, involved in marketing & fund-raising. ... She ALSO works with Ken and Barry in managing the Visitor Centre and has been part of the team on several successful grant applications including the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation Grant to improve the accessibility of the site and the recent grant to create an Art Space in the Visitor Centre. There is not too much that happens at the Wetlands that doesn’t have her fingerprints on it. The Board of HWCA has recognised the commitment and contribution, of the legendary Val, to the Wetlands by awarding of Life Membership! Thank you Val for all that you do, The Wetlands would not function the way it does without you. You are our very own superwoman and now you can spend your free time at The Wetlands too! Seen Val in action? Tell us how wonderful she is in the comments below Check out the place Val continues to support: https://wetlands.org.au
