23.01.2022 OIL OF OREGANO The newest addition to my little herb garden and essential oil collection. I started looking into the benefits of oregano oil when I recently got a nasty skin infection in Indonesia which medical doctors told me I would need antibiotics to cure! Numerous studies have shown that broad-spectrum antibiotics can be dangerous because they don’t only kill the bad bacteria but they also kill all the good bacteria that we need for optimal health, therefore causing ...more severe health problems in the long run such as poor gut health, low probiotic bacteria, reduced vitamin absorption and antibiotic resistance Lucky for me, my Mum is the essential oil queen and introduced me to this magical herb. Oregano oil is a powerful essential oil used in traditional medicine for treating internal and external bacterial infections, fungus’s and viruses. For thousands of years, this incredible oil has been used across the globe to treat colds, infections, earaches and toothaches, digestive issues (such as heartburn and indigestion), upset stomachs, parasites, inflammation, fungi like athletes foot, warts, staph infections and allergies. Magical or what, right?! Oregano oil possesses strong antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties and it’s active ingredients help fight multiple types of pathogens and bacteria - making it an all natural alternative to prescription antibiotics! Oregano oil can be used topically (directly on your skin), diffused or taken internally however if you do use this oil on your skin, always make sure it is mixed with a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil. For an external skin infection or fungus, simply mix 3 drops of 100% pure, organic oregano oil with a small amount of your carrier oil and apply by rubbing into the skin over the affected area. For internal ingestion, your dosage will depend on the condition you’re treating and is not considered safe to use during pregnancy so make sure you do your research first! See more

15.01.2022 YELLOW MOONG BEAN DHAL The perfect warm lunch on this cold and rainy day! Moong beans are a small, green legume used widely in cooking all throughout India and Asia and have been a traditional form of medicine for thousands of years! Moong beans are one of the healthiest sources of plant protein and are a high source of nutrients and dietary fibre. They’re bursting with amino acids and antioxidants and studies have even found them to be anti-microbial and anti-inflammato...ry which means they assist with increasing our immunity and fighting harmful bacteria to keep our guts healthy! There are plenty of ways you can eat and cook with moong beans but here is the recipe for my super easy and delicious yellow dhal: 200g organic moong (mung) beans (soaked overnight, rinsed and drained) 2 tbs coconut oil 2 cups water 400ml coconut cream (tinned) 1 tablespoon ground cumin 1 tablespoon ground turmeric 1 tablespoon curry powder 1 tablespoon cardamom powder 1 tablespoon cinnamon Himalayan rock salt & pepper to taste In a medium sized pot, heat the coconut oil and carefully saute your moong beans with your spices over high heat for 1 minute - stirring constantly and being careful not to burn. Add the water and coconut cream and stir well, cover your pot and turn heat down to allow to boil on a low-medium heat. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring continuously and adding salt and pepper as required, until grains are soft and your dhal has thickened. Serve with brown rice, a healthy bread or vegetables. I like to add a dollop of coconut yoghurt to mine! This is a very basic dhal recipe but you can add all kinds of delicious extras like onion, garlic and ginger, carrots, celery etc. Just make sure to brown them in the pan in your spices before you add your moong beans and liquid. You may need to increase your water amount if you’ve added more vegetables!

04.01.2022 WINTER WARMER SOUP Living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in QLD, soup is not usually my first choice on the menu because it’s so toasty and hot allllll the time so I completely embrace the few months (...more like weeks!) of this cosy soup weather This week it’s cauliflower, leek and Macadamia soup. I use ALOT of cauliflower in my recipes because it’s benefits are just endless, it’s such a superstar! It’s a great source of Vitamin C (perfect for boosting your immune ...system in winter!), has excellent anti inflammatory properties, bursting with anti cancer compounds and is a great source of calcium! The other great thing about this soup is it’s really nutritious and hearty so it won’t leave you feeling hungry an hour later like some do! Here’s the super easy recipe: 1 x large brown onion 2 x garlic cloves 1 x large cauliflower head 1 x leek 2 x celery stalks 1/2 cup macadamias 5 x twigs rosemary 500ml vegetable stock 2 cups natural coconut milk (tinned) Salt & Pepper Dice the onion and garlic and slice the leek - lightly fry together in a large pot with a couple of tablespoons of your oil of choice (I use coconut oil). Chop up your cauliflower and celery and add to your pot followed by the vegetable broth, coconut milk, rosemary and macadamias. Simmer on a medium heat for about 15 minutes or until your cauliflower is cooked through (soft). Taste every few minutes and add salt and pepper as you go until you reach your desired taste. Remove from the heat and allow to cool before you put it in your food processor/blender. Blend until a creamy consistency is reached and serve warm - I like to add a dollop of coconut yoghurt to mine
