25.01.2022 Don't forget this important event occurring this Saturday 10th April at Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club - see you there from 5pm for drinks, food and raffles.

25.01.2022 It was a tough decision but we know it was the right one for the sake of the trails - this is how things looked at the park at 7.15am this morning (right when we would be course marking) - not a lot of rain but the ground is already so full of water even the slightest amount of new moisture and we have puddles! We need to keep the park closed for a few more days - it will need a full day of sunshine and warmth after the rain stops to dry out enough. Thanks for your understand...ing. Uocoming club events: Sunday 7th March - Track Build to finish off the Little Falcon Jump Line extension - this is so cool! Monday 15th March - Committee meeting at Club Macquarie Sunday 21 March - XC and DH Racing

25.01.2022 Can you smell it? The whiff of racing is in the air - we are on tomorrow If you want to deck yourself out in one of our new Awaba Shirts get your order in today, pay by PayPal (helps us with instant confirmation) and we will bring it out for you to collect tomorrow - job done! https://hmba.asn.au/shop/

24.01.2022 Trail Update - they might be a bit wet in places - please be respectful and keep off the new trail to give it more time to dry out.

23.01.2022 Our next race round is coming up quickly on Sunday 18/10/20 more details to be posted soon but if you need to get your cycling fix before then, or perhaps even some motivation to push yourself that little bit harder during the race 2 days later, then why not check this out screening on Friday 16/10/20 at Kotara The Big Bike Film Night https://www.facebook.com/events/240647580604880

22.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Closed on Sunday 15th November from 8am to 4pm due to Racing. This includes the XC Loops, Faulk Line and the Downhill Track (the Development Trails will be the only trails accessible during this time), and is done for the safety of all riders (some trails are used in reverse direction or may have fast moving timed riders). If you really want to ride here on Sunday join in the races - XC/DH from 9am and we are putting a shuttle bus on Faulk Line from 1...2pm but you will need a full face helmet - full details in a previous post. Please share this to any riding group or buddies - we hate to turn people away - we always advertise closures on Facebook and our website, and have put up a sign at the park - it pays to check before heading out.

22.01.2022 Don't forget you will need to register online for racing this Sunday - we are unable to accept entries on the day. And if you were planning on heading out to the park on Sunday please be aware that the XC track and Faulk Line will be closed to the public until about 11.30am. The weather forecast looks great and we are excited to get racing back underway again - things are looking good for Downhill in October too. ... https://my.raceresult.com/155936/

20.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Trail Sponsor - Bay Bike Co. You may remember that a few months ago we put out the call for businesses interested in sponsoring sections of the trails at the Park - well over the past weeks we have been installing some new trail signage to acknowledge those businesses that stepped forward - their sponsorship contribution will be put straight back into maintaining and improving the world-class trails and facilities that we all enjoy. No matter whether ...you have tackled the full Awaba (Red) Loop or taken the shortcut option to follow the Watagan (Blue) Loop you will soon find yourself staring straight at our next sponsor sign belonging to long time HMBA supporters, Bay Bike Co. - cross the long rainforest bridge as you head toward the Murderhorn and you can't miss it! 19.01.2022 Racing update for Sunday 20th September At this stage we are pushing on with our planning for the next XC Race under our Covid-19 Safety Plan - unfortunately the recently updated government rules will prevent us from operating our shuttle bus for the downhill event but hopefully these will ease in time for October. As per last round it will be ONLINE ENTRIES ONLY - this time we will be using the Race Result system for entries - you will still need to ensure that you have a cu...rrent MTBA Licence to race. Entries will close at 4pm on Saturday 19th September to give us time to get the data file organised for the race - no exceptions - NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY. With all the new youngsters getting into the sport we have decided to run the Junior Race (E Grade) a little bit differently this round - we will have diversions on the main XC Race Course to create a shorter lap for them so that they can compete in a 2-3 lap race - more chance for Mum and/or Dad to cheer them on across the finish line! We will put up more details in the official Event Post over the next few days - for now head to the following link and get your entry in - YAY! https://my.raceresult.com/155936/

19.01.2022 With the threat of yet another cancellation, the weather was looking to shut us down this time again but instead with some light shower, overcast & a cool breeze it made for perfect riding conditions. Monkey was prime, moist, swept clean ready for some DH action. Instead of racing today we opted for a social layback timed run session. 18.01.2022 Whilst we are all for supporting your Local Bike Store (LBS) we know that in these modern times people will turn to the internet to source bits and pieces that might be hard to source locally at the time when you need them. If you choose to take this route then supporting an Australian company makes sense - especially one that also supports Australian Mountain Bike clubs! HMBA have signed up with the MTB Direct "Dollars for Dirt" program meaning that when you buy something... through them online you can nominate HMBA as your preferred club and a portion of your sale will come back to us to be reinvested in the trail network out at the Awaba Mountain Bike Park. Happy days

17.01.2022 What an awesome night on Saturday for the Fundraiser for Coleen - an early indication was given that somewhere around $18k was raised - great work by all who attended! The road ahead continues to present many challenges for Coleen and her family - if you haven't already done so then please consider going to the following link and making a small donation to help with the modifications and equipment that Coleen will need to allow her to return to her family home in Newcastle when she is discharged from Ryde Rehab Hospital. https://hmba.asn.au/support-coleen-in-her-recovery/

16.01.2022 Just in case you missed it - the Awaba Downhill Track is closed this week while we install something special. We're all on track (!!!) to open again next weekend thanks to impressive co-ordination by our trail building crew and local contractors, Lakeside Crane Hire, JDR Excavations, Roladuct Spiral Tubing Group and Banister's Transport PTY LTD. All made possible with the support of NSW Government, Visit NSW State Forests, Lake Macquarie City Council, Cr Kay Fraser - Lake Macquarie Mayor and Greg Piper MP

16.01.2022 You can stop holding your breath - results from last week's XC Race are now ready! It took some fettling to get all of the systems to talk to each other - a corrupted software update was to blame - there are still a couple of names missing so if you can send an email to our President with your plate number he will sort these out - [email protected] https://my.raceresult.com/155936/results?lang=en#0_5B2D98

14.01.2022 So our man on the ground (our XC coordinator) has had a change of thinking now that the rain has arrived at the Park there is no wind and it looks like the moisture is going to hang around a bit heavier and longer than when he arrived to set the track at 5 a.m. So yes another disappointment for 2020 we are going to postpone the race today we have a committee meeting tomorrow night and we'll discuss arrangements for rescheduling - if we have enough people available we m...ay try to run it as soon as next Sunday but will let you know as soon as possible. At this stage it is likely that entry fees will transfer across onto the new event although we will let you know the arrangements if you require a refund. Everyone on the Committee is gutted to have to make this decision but it is best for people, bikes and trails to avoid riding in these conditions and save the fun for a better day

14.01.2022 So we need some happy news - how about we have another go at racing! Sunday 20th September is our next scheduled round and we feel pretty confident that as long as the weather holds out we can run another race under our Covid Safe Plan - well at least the XC side of things - we still need to work out some details about whether we can safely run the shuttle buses for DH and this may largely be dependent on any updated rules or recommendations that are applicable ...at that time. We will put up an official Event Post this weekend - it will be online entries only and at this stage it will be restricted to Hunter residents - unfortunately if you come from the Greater Sydney region we will need to ask you to sit this one out based on the latest recommendations for community sport - sorry Specific plan details/rules will be detailed on the Event Page.

14.01.2022 Did you know that you can use your Active Kids Voucher to join AusCycling and HMBA - this is the perfect way to get your children started in this great sport. Full details at the following Link: https://auscycling.org.au/membership/other/activekids

13.01.2022 Faces of Awaba Build days! Ever wondered who puts together the fantastic trails you get to ride out at the park? It's normally just a bunch of good-looking guys and girls (with the occasional 4-legged observer) that set aside their own time to clear and shape the tracks, battling whatever weather challenges are brought upon them. If you would like to help out them please join our next Build Day - keep Sunday 7th March free as we are thinking that this may be our next one - details to come.

13.01.2022 We are working on the XC Results from today's race - seems there may have been some issues with the 'timing equipment' - doesn't appear Covid related but we need to wait for the test results just to be sure - hope to have something for you by tomorrow evening.

13.01.2022 Online Registration for tomorrow's race closes at 4pm today. Sorry, but No registrations on the day as per our Covid Safe Plan. Conditions will be primo - a little rain in the last day will make the trail surface ideal.... Remember the XC and Faulk Line trails will be closed on Sunday until 11.30am.

13.01.2022 Just in case you weren't aware - Awaba Mountain Bike Park is closed to the public when events are on. This means that this Sunday 17 January 2021 the following applies: - XC trails and Faulk Line Closed from 8.00am until 12.00pm - DH trail closed all day... - new trail at Road Gap closed due to ongoing wet conditions Thanks for your understanding - please share to your riding friends

13.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Trail Sponsor - Milleen Constructions Pty Ltd. You may remember that a few months ago we put out the call for businesses interested in sponsoring sections of the trails at the Park - well over the past weeks we have been installing some new trail signage to acknowledge those businesses that stepped forward - their sponsorship contribution will be put straight back into maintaining and improving the world-class trails and facilities that we all enjoy. ...As you cross the last bridge on the main XC Loops (on your return after the Tunnel) you will find our next Trail Sponsor - Milleen Constructions - a local company that has been serving the Newcastle & Hunter Valley community since 1986. Milleen Constructions specialize in Civil Engineering Services, Industrial and Commercial Building, Construction Management, Civil Construction and Pile Driving. 08.01.2022 Trails are Wet, please stay off All trails. We have had alot of rain out Awaba when the sun does decided to shine, Give the trails a chance to dry

08.01.2022 HMBA have recently been made aware of a mapping situation that results in some of our trail network operating through a section of Olney State Forest that is designated as Hunting Forest. Whilst it is not prohibited or unusual for roads or trails in Hunting Forest areas to be accessed by a variety of other park users, including 4WD’ers, Motorcyclists, Cyclists, Hikers, etc, HMBA acknowledge the combination of heavy mountain bike usage and hunting is not ideal and are cur...rently seeking to have the issue addressed through our strong connection with the landowner, Forestry Corporation of NSW, as well as the NSW Department of Primary Industries. In the interim period please be aware that HMBA recommend that riders choosing to access any forest areas to the eastern side of Jenkins Rd (our main Park entrance road) including the Development Trails and lower carpark area do so at their own risk, and in doing so acknowledge that they are accessing an area of the Olney State Forest in which hunting activities are authorised to occur. For any further queries please contact [email protected] Visit NSW State Forests Greg Piper MP Newcastle Herald Lake Macquarie City Council NSW DPI Hunting NBN TV, Newcastle

08.01.2022 This is painful for all of us at HMBA The tracks are completely soaked after the rain that we have had over the past week and with the forecast shaping up for more rain over the next few days we have followed in the footsteps of many others and made the decision to keep the trails closed and cancel the racing for the weekend This is never an easy decision for the club and I can tell you there has been a lot of back and forth for the committee over the past 12 hours - th...e reality is that we have people in the area that know the trails and we know that they will suffer if we race on them - not only that, but it won't be fun for the smaller number of people that do decide to turn up and will only cause wear and tear on the bikes for no good reason. If you have already entered then your entry will be automatically transferred to our next race round which is scheduled on Sunday 21/03/2020 sorry for any inconvenience if you cannot make that round but please email us and we will sort you out. We appreciate your understanding regarding this decision rest assured that there are members on our committee that are just as disappointed to not be able to race as you are hopefully now you can go ahead and plan something fun to do on the day. Regards, Josh

08.01.2022 The Gravity Gang had some fun today too - Faulk Line shuttles in the afternoon made for smiles all round

07.01.2022 Downhill Shuttles this Sunday with Timing if you like, remember you don't need to do timed runs just sign up for the ride. Sorted Online rego up & running https://online.mtba.org.au/ERegister.aspx?E=8489

07.01.2022 We are keeping fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed that nothing gets in the way of racing this coming weekend XC is go - DH will need to confirm after we clarify the latest rules as they relate to the shuttle bus for NSW.

07.01.2022 Thanks to Phil D for his thoughts on racing from a C-Grader's perspective: https://hmba.asn.au//16/hmba-xc-race-report-round-5-16-11/ AusCycling - New South Wales Lake Macquarie City Council

07.01.2022 If you ever want to know if the Park is open for riding please check out our website (www.hmba.asn.au) - we try to keep this as updated as possible as the main source for communicating the trail conditions - if we get a chance we will update the Facebook Page also but the safest bet is to always check the website before heading out. So with that in mind - unfortunately we have had reports today from several people on the ground that there is a huge amount of water affecting t...he trails at the moment and riding on them will just cause damage - unless you can honestly say that you are going to come out to a build day to repair the damage you have caused then we politely ask that you respect our request to not ride at Awaba until the conditions improve - based on current conditions this will mean at least 2 days of completely dry and warm weather for the main XC and Development Trails and about 3-4 days for the other Gravity trails as they are fresher and built on more of a clay-based surface. Thanks for your understanding - we have attached a couple of images to show what the information on the website will look like

06.01.2022 HMBA are pleased to advise that through the cooperation and quick action of the Forestry Corporation of NSW and the NSW Department of Primary Industries the previously identified issue around the zoning of the official Awaba Mountain Bike Park lease area and Hunting Forest has been rectified. Forestry Corporation have made the required mapping adjustments to the Park’s boundaries and associated Hunting Exclusion Zone status, and NSW DPI have updated their records and commu...nicated this to their Registered Hunters. All users need to remain aware of the fact that areas of the Olney State Forest outside of the boundaries of the official MTB park network remain approved for all types of hunting activities, including gun and bow hunting. Hunters are aware of the presence of the MTB park, including the potential for riders accessing these areas at varying times throughout the day or night, and must follow the strict rules and regulations associated with their licencing. Riders need to be aware of the possibility of encountering Hunters moving about the general area, and may occasionally hear gunshots coming from the surrounding forest. Signage has been installed to indicate the boundary of the MTB park to all users this signage will be reviewed in light of the recent developments to ensure that the signs remain in position, and consideration will be given to whether additional signage may be needed in some areas. Thanks to everyone for their understanding of this situation from becoming aware of the issue to achieving a resolution within the week is a pleasing outcome. 06.01.2022 We are planning our next build day on Sunday 1 November to finish the hand work on the "trail with the tunnel" - full details soon. 06.01.2022 Here's a little video from the start of our XC racing today if you weren't there you missed out on an awesome course and fantastic weather and trail conditions. Thoughts go out to little Lilli who took a tumble in one of the first corners and hurt her back, nothing major we hope and we'll see you out on the trails soon.

06.01.2022 What started out as a great morning has turned 180 and we advise that you avoid coming out to the park today as the trails are all flowing like rivers. A willing band of volunteers did manage to come out to fix a bridge and knock over some trail work on a new trail that we have been working on for some time - not quite finished but it will "B" great when it is done we are now all a bit wet!

03.01.2022 Awaba Mountain Bike Park Trail Sponsor - Rocky Trail Entertainment You may remember that a few months ago we put out the call for businesses interested in sponsoring sections of the trails at the Park - well over the past weeks we have been installing some new trail signage to acknowledge those businesses that stepped forward - their sponsorship contribution will be put straight back into maintaining and improving the world-class trails and facilities that we all enjoy. After... you've busted your lungs tackling "Camelback Climb" and enjoyed the rough and tumble downhill section ("Markdown") on your Awaba Loop you will scoot past the merge point for the "Little Falcon" jump line and find yourself facing the next sponsor sign belonging to good friends of HMBA, Rocky Trail Entertainment. Martin, Juliana and their band of enthusiastic helpers run some of the most enjoyable races you could ever enter, including their ever popular Fox Superflow gravity-based events and the Shimano MTB GP's - the second best Cross Country race series in Australia (after our HMBA Club series, of course!). They are also resposible for several renowned marathon-style events, including the JetBlack 24Hour, and their Women's Only series - Diamonds in the Dirt. Please head on over to their website and check things out - unfortunately they have been doing things a bit tough due to Covid-19 causing the postponement or cancellation of some events - you can find out about where things are up to for the RTE team at their informative Blog: https://rockytrailentertainment.com/ https://rockytrailentertainment.com/blog/ #MTB #mountainbiking #foxsuperflow #shimano #gravityenduro #rockytrail #rockytrailentertainment Mountain Bike Australia - MTBA

01.01.2022 Night Racing is back, baby! Charge up those lights That's right - now that the clocks have been wound back we can run some short and sharp mid-week night XC races - these are always a great deal of fun - low pressure and on a different shorter course to what we might normally use on the weekend races. We are planning to run these on Wednesday 21st and 28th April from somewhere around the 6-6.30pm mark - we are just trying to sort out the details including the availability o...f our Volunteers to run these events - we will put up a more formal Event Post in the next day or so. For now - save the date and get ready for the second most fun thing you can do in the dark whilst wearing lycra !
