The theme for PANDA Week 2020 is ‘Tell someone who cares'. The theme acknowledges that this year, more than ever, it is crucial that new and expecting parents that may be struggling know they’re not alone and can reach out for help and be supported - whether it be family members, health pro...fessionals, PANDA or other perinatal mental health specialists. For more information contact your GP or health professional or @PANDAnational

25.01.2022 Today is World Health Day, and this year’s theme is 'Building a fairer, healthier world for all.' The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that not everyone can access the skills to live healthy lives. With that in mind, we would like to celebrate the day with a good news story from one of our clients, who with support from our NDIS and Care Coordination & Supplementary Services (CCSS) team has achieved positive health support skills we call 'lifestyle health skills'. With the s...upport of our Occupational Therapists and Dietitian, our client has developed new skills by introducing small consistent lifestyle changes every day, like moving more, preparing healthy affordable eating options and self-care. This has improved her mood, healthy weight goal, and more recently has influenced positive changes for her entire family’s health and nutrition. Here is just one great example of how small everyday changes can help you build the skills for a healthier you Find out more about CCSS here https://bit.ly/3dJYpKH See more

21.01.2022 As part of a Close the Gap initiative, our team recently delivered the ‘Yantiin Kalabara 5 ways to a healthier you’ program to five local schools with a large percentage of Indigenous enrolments. Yantiin Kalabara is an Aboriginal phrase that means 'Everyone Shining Bright'. The program aimed to increase health awareness and educate young people to make healthy living choices. The fun and interactive Pit Stop stations focused on healthy eating habits, increased physical activity, the importance of water in your diet, and decreased screen time. The team had a fantastic time engaging with students, and feedback from schools has been extremely positive to date. Here's some snaps from our day with the students at Merewether Public School.

19.01.2022 Meet Jacqueline Fordham - Indigenous Mental Health Care Coordinator - Yudhilidin Yaama Jacqueline here. I am a proud Wonnarua Woman.... I have worked in community for over 20 years and love the work I do. I work with the Yudhilidin team at Hunter Primary Care to empower my people by walking alongside them on their journey through connection and trust and connecting with spirit and culture. I am a great advocate for Traditional Aboriginal Healing practices as a holistic approach to mental health supports and traditional healing needs to be a part of more communities all over Australia. I work to support people up in Worimi and Biripi country and can see first-hand that its very important for our people to be able to access supports to traditional healing, not just as a one off thing, but constantly. You cant put feeling and spirit and soul and connection to country into any books, it doesnt work and it doesnt work for our people. In regard to education, I have completed a Diploma in Community Services and Welfare, an Advanced Diploma in Leadership, a Certificate IV in Drug and Alcohol, a Certificate IV in Mental Health, as well as a Certificate IV in Training and Development. Life experience is the most valuable tool to me working in community and life in general. I have two amazing sons who are 28 and 24 years old, and a granddaughter Aylah, and a grandson, Colton. Spending time with my grandchildren, family and community is most important to me, as is learning continually about my Culture and Connection to Country. I enjoy motorbike-riding, time at the beach, camping, staying grounded, being in nature, listening to music, dancing and having a good laugh everyday. A couple of my favourite quotes are: Cant fly like an eagle when you running with the turkeys Cant put brains into monuments
