25.01.2022 Why join HSSA? All legal hunting and gel blaster use is covered by $20 million public liability insurance. We are an approved hunting organisation in NSW and can offer membership required for your R licence.... We are an approved Hunter LEAP provider and can do the R licence course, as well as other hunter training. We are part of the NSC Gunkeeper program and can offer discounted membership to the NSC. Entry into a anual competition with a $100 voucher up for grabs proudly sponsored by the NSC. Coming soon the genuine reason to own category A, B and M weapons in Queensland. We are a group formed by hunters for hunters. We understand the needs of hunters and are working towards fulfilling those needs. https://hssa.club/

25.01.2022 Queensland has always been proactive with the way they have allowed unregistered firearms be surrended and even be registered against a lawful firearm owners licence. This has assisted in recovering many pre 1996 firearms and getting them on the books in the name of community safety. However Queensland has decided to disregard the one piece of gun control legalisation that actually provided some degree of community safety and move towards more red tape. This is a disappointment to not only firearm owners but the whole community.

24.01.2022 Queensland Gel Blaster owners, I hope you are keeping a careful eye on what has happened in both Tasmania and South Australia with gel blasters. Both states started to work with gel blaster businesses and owners to achieve "sensible controls" around gel blasters and then did a complete backflip making gel blasters out right illegal or a category A firearm. Do not be surprised if the Queensland government does this next year!... Gel Blaster businesses need to start planning how they will operate if gel blasters become a category A weapon. Do research, look at what is required for paint ball and see if your business could be adapted quickly and cost effectively! Gel Blaster owners need to start planning for gel blasters to become a category A firearm. Start your research now on what this would mean for you. All gel blaster enthusiasts need to carefully consider their vote this October and make sure they vote for someone pro firearm and thus pro gel blaster! In the mean time, we will continue to raise awareness of the possible issue, encourage pro firearm voting in an attempt to avoid such issue, lobby political candidates for support to ensure gel blasters remain less restricted and continue with a back up plan for the worse case scenario. So that if gel blasters do become a firearm the sport can recover quickly! HSSA is a group made by hunters and shooters for hunters and shooters (this includes shooting gels). I know it's the worse business plan ever but, our job isn't done until we are no longer needed! As always happy hunting and safe shooting!

24.01.2022 As an approved AHO in NSW, having weapons club applications pending in both Victoria and Queenland, this topic is vitally important for the future of HSSA. We strongly believe that the process for weapons licencing, club approvals and permits to aquire amongst other things should be based solely on legislation, not after thought policy or procedure. We are very glad to see the matter of legislation brought up in this case.... Thank you Mr Borsak.

23.01.2022 Credit where credit is due. I think this app will help firearm owners vote for the best candidate in their area. If you have any local knowledge then I encourage you to jump on board and share it

22.01.2022 We couldn't agree more. Being able to enjoy outdoor activities increases respect for our natural places, common sense and responsibility, improves health and fitness, reduces depression and anxiety. This is just the beginning of the benefits of an outdoor lifestyle.

19.01.2022 Liberal democrats firearm policy. https://www.ldp.org.au/firearms We understand that different areas have different candidates available to vote for...... We strongly recommend voting in as many pro firearm candidates as possible to help influence better gun laws. This election we are asking everyone to put the majors last!

19.01.2022 We are very excited to receive an email from the NSC today in relation to one year free membership offered under their Gunkeeper program. Any person who purchase goods or memberships from HSSA to or above the value of $200 can now receive one year free membership with the NSC. This is very exciting news to us, as we are a hunting group for hunters by hunters and are always looking for ways to add value for our members.... In our opinion the NSC are the leaders in pro firearm lobbying and we believe that they are the way to secure the future of our sport. For information on how to become a member of HSSA and on the NSC Gunkeeper program visit our website www.hssa.club

19.01.2022 This is a very unfortunate story and I truly feel for the friends and family of the victims. Unfortunately the government response to stories like this is normally to restrict law abiding firearm owners further. This approach does nothing to bring victims back, prevent further victims, improve community safety or stop criminals from doing criminal things.... Many people will call for tighter gun control not knowing our current gun control laws or that if the police upheld our current laws this tragedy may have never happened. The offender in this case would have been prohibited to get a firearms licence due to his history. Even a private gun club refused his money and rejected his membership! This screams two things to me and we deserve better on both fronts. 1) the government places too much focus on lawful firearm owners and fails to focus appropriate resources towards the criminal use of firearms. 2) our current gun control laws are so complex and overwhelming that no one, not even the police can keep up with them. Due to their over complex nature mistakes are being made. Now is not the time to seek more complicated gun control that focuses on the law abiding. Now is the time to make gun control focused on the criminal use of firearms and make the laws for the law abiding more simple and easier to follow. Thus actually increasing community safety. https://www.google.com//killer-sydney-dad-had-propensity-f

19.01.2022 The general written permission conditions will change from next week, giving you more clarity around rules for State forest hunting. These are the standard conditions that apply to all State forest hunting. Some changes for pig doggers include: the ability to hunt at night with dogs whilst having a firearm or bows stored securely no longer required to have UHF radio when hunting at night... can now hunt alone at night with dogs, no longer need to be part of a group. Please note, written permission conditions published in the NSW Game Hunting Guide are now out of date.

18.01.2022 Recently APDHA had an article on african swine fever and the effects it could have on not only the domestic pork industry but also on pig hunters. Recreational pig hunters play two very important roles in ensuring that african swine fever doesn't take hold in Australia. 1 is early detection. Us hunters are out and about and often seen things that others may otherwise not see.... 2 stopping the spread. By knowing and following a few simple rules we hunters can limit any potential spread of the fever. To help stay on top of african swine fever we have attached images explaining the steps hunters should take. Please note credit where credit is due APDHA own the images. We have also attached a link to a free course on african swine fever that anybody can do and get a certificate at the completion. Don't let african swine fever become an excuse for our government to limit hunting. Happy hunting and safe shooting https://mintrac.talentlms.com/unit/view/id:2050

18.01.2022 The economic, environmental and public health benefits of public land hunting should be enjoyed by all Queenslanders... Unfortunately the Labour government refuse to listen to Queenslanders... It's time to make your voice heard!

17.01.2022 Some direct quotes from the below article. Some key points to remember: 1) Vote Labour Dead Last!... 2) We are all in this together, we need to stand together with a united voice to effect change. 3) Our sport of hunting is at risk, Australia wide! 4) Join the NSC to help push back against tighter gun control. 5) Due to the gun keeper program our members have access to discounted NSC membership. "Going back to how shooters and hunters will be affected, will there be a duck hunting season in 2021 and beyond? The odds are against it. Will game hunting be outlawed in the State of Victoria in the future? A returned Labor government will have a 4 year term and so its highly likely in my opinion. If hunting is banned by the government your genuine reason to hold a firearms licence and own guns will no longer exists - and every shooter knows what that means and what will happen! If you think I don’t live in Victoria, so it doesn’t affect me you're wrong. The ALP governments in all States are in the same position and tend to follow each other. Remember how it was only the Labor states that closed our guns hops down earlier this year? I sincerely hope time proves me wrong."

17.01.2022 If you can afford a donation please consider making a donation to the NSC. We understand that it is though times with many people out of work. If a donation is not possible to do at the moment please share this post and get the word out It doesn't matter that your not a victorian, or that the issue doesn't currently affect you. Sooner or later the fight will be your fight. With the powers that be left unchecked they will move to take all firearms from us one by one.... Divided we fall, united we stand. It's time for all shooters to stand together and have our voice heard as one! https://nationalshooting.org.au//nsc-moves-on-immediate-in

16.01.2022 One Nations firearms policy. We understand that different areas have different candidates available to vote for... We strongly recommend voting in as many pro firearm candidates as possible to help influence better gun laws.... This election we are asking everyone to put the majors last!

15.01.2022 Hunters regularly use quad bikes. The government is considering changing the legislation and rules around the use and sale of quad bikes. Make sure you have your say.. ... https://www.vision6.com.au/v/15149/1822322905/email.html

15.01.2022 Have you completed the free african swine fever training course? If you are a pig hunter we highly recommend you complete the course. It's possible that if african swine fever makes its way to Australia and spreads, pig hunting could be severely restricted.... As pig hunters we should do all we can to limit this from happening. https://mintrac.talentlms.com/unit/view/id:2050

14.01.2022 Karen is a One Nation candidate and appears to understand the opportunity Queenland is missing out on when they said no to public land hunting. It's important for hunters to back candidates who back them! Make sure you stay on target this election

14.01.2022 It is good to see NSW DPI working so hard to make public land hunting easier for hunters.

13.01.2022 Some awesome news from NSW DPI in regards to night time pig hunting on public land. Hunters and Shooters Society of Australia support responsible pig hunting as both an effective control method and as a recreational activity. We greatly appreciate NSW DPI being proactive and willing to make positive change, not just for pig hunters but all Approved Hunting Organisation members in general.

13.01.2022 Put Labour last this election!

13.01.2022 Both the Shooters Union and the National Shooting Council worked hard on the Queensland election. Although Labour unfortunately maintained power shooters can take some peace in the knowledge that KAP and One Nation maintained seats which will be a great assistance to shooters in the future. The below link also explains how the voting campaign had a positive effect on funding for pro gun politics.... A bloody good job all around and something to be proud of

12.01.2022 We are heading into the wet season up north and even out west. Roads may get flooded and damaged. If you are out and about hunting and come across a flooded road please don't try and cross it! Crossing flooded roads is just not worth it and it's a great excuse to stay hunting for a little longer ... To avoid the temptation to cross a flooded road make sure you pack enough supplies like food and drinks to last a couple of extra days out. Ensure you have a phone or other method to contact loved ones or work and let them know you will be home late and have a plan before you go, nothing is that important to risk it! As always happy hunting and safe shooting

12.01.2022 Father's Day Parmesan cheese and beer damper . Happy Father's Day , Damper King

11.01.2022 A good outcome for the primary producer and a good outcome for shooters in general. This shows the importance of taking the government and it's sections to task over firearm policy.

10.01.2022 Don't forget our petition... Queensland lawful firearm owners seek more sensible and fair firearm laws. In recent times the Queensland Government noted the important role that lawful firearm owners play in assisting the rural community when they made concessions to gun shop closures for recreational firearm licence holders to buy ammunition and firearms if they held approval from a primary producer to conduct shooting for primary production purposes such as pest control and s...tock management. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to make immediate changes to the Queensland Weapons Act and Regulations to allow lawful and licenced firearm owners to acquire and use the same weapons already available to primary producers for the purposes of pest management. This would see recreational shooters being permitted to own and use category H, C and D firearms for pest control. https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au//petit/petition-details

09.01.2022 If you are one of our victorian followers, this is something to keep an eye on.

09.01.2022 Who will you be giving $3.14 to this election? Make your vote count! Put the majors last!

09.01.2022 We encourage all of our members and followers to join our friends at the National Shooting Council. As a gun club it is a constant balancing act to decide if we put our hard earned resources into better conditions and services for our valued members or lobbying for better gun rights. With organisations such as the NSC they can focus all of their attention and resources towards the politics of firearms and shooting and lobby the government for better gun laws.... Organisations such as the NSC are vital to keeping our sport and hobby viable into the future and offer great value to their members. Below is a short video on what the NSC has done for shooters so far!

09.01.2022 Have you let your weapons licence expire? Your weapons licence must be renewed before it expires, there is no grace period. So what happens now?... As you are now unlicenced you can not be in lawful possession of your firearms. You can store your firearms with a weapons licence holder for 3 months, put your firearms into safe keeping at a dealer or the police can store them until you get your new licence. You will now need to reapply for your weapons licence. However you may not need to do another safety course. Below is a QPS brochure with some frequently asked questions.

09.01.2022 Why would the Queensland government change a system that is already working?

08.01.2022 Did you know that in Queenland, a bolt is a major part of a firearm and thus must be stored the same as a firearm? This means a bolt must be stored in a secure storage facility ie safe. And a bolt can not be stored in the same area/container as ammunition.

08.01.2022 Do you know what kills more Australians every year than guns ever will? Our roads! With 1195 deaths in 2019 compared to 416 homicides (by all causes, not just guns.) In doing our part to keep hunting a safe and enjoyable sport we warned of the dangers of driving across flooded roads. Today we warn about driving tired.... Make sure you leave enough time to get enough quality rest in your hunting trip plans. As always happy hunting and safe shooting

08.01.2022 I'm currently undertaking my USA Hunter Education Course with the NRA. Although it will be long before anyone can travel overseas and I don't invision going back to the USA for some considerable time. It is my dream to one-day hunt Alaska. Further to this many people bring up the USA and their apparent lack of gun laws when debating Australian gun laws.... I thought it would be advantageous to not only know some of the USA gun laws, but also go through as much of the process as I can, as a non citizen. The course is very in-depth and not only covers bolt action, lever action, break action, pump action rifles and shotguns, it also covers archery and black powder firearms. This course is required to be completed by any person who wants to hunt on public land in the USA. Here are 3 bow hunting rules I learnt today... Rule# 1 Always use a broadhead wrench when installing a broadhead on an arrow. A broadhead wrench protects you by covering and grasping the blades when tightening. Rule#2 Always securely cover broadhead arrows when transporting them to avoid accidental damage or injury. Rule#3 Always use extreme caution when field dressing an animal harvest with a broadhead. As some or parts of the broadhead could be broken off in the animal and could cause injury. Happy hunting and safe Shooting #bowhunting #huntereducation #broadheads

08.01.2022 I have previously written on our instagram page (hunters_and_shooters) about an early morning deer hunt and how it teaches children to grow into good adults, but in particular boys into good men. I formed this opinion after reading two books by Steve Biddulph, "The new manhood" and "Raising Boys" (I have also read his book on rasing girls however that's another story). In these books Steve explained two things, fathers are important and boys learn differently. In the early m...orning deer hunt post I explained how hunting teaches boys and young men many positive skills that can then become building blocks for the foundation of their life. This included skills such as discipline by going to bed early and waking up when it's much easier to stay in a warm bed, being in control of your emotions and restraint when you first get to the hunt busting with excitement but need to be quite, respect and safety by having respect for the firearm and the people around you safety, being consistent continuing to hunt even though you haven't seen any game yet and walking the hills is hard work, resilience we keep hunting until we get it right and suffer through the hard times, empathy we care for the animal we harvest and try our best to make it humane, providing we put in work to get the reward and we share our reward with friends and family. I'm sure their are many skills and attitudes I haven't listed but these are definitely a few positive skills and attitudes that come from hunting. Over the weekend my son and I built a pig trap and I soon learnt that in addition to the skills above my son has also picked up many practical skills and abilities as well, all due to our love of hunting. In the photos you can see him confidently grinding and welding the pig trap after a few practice welds on some scrap metal. I guess the gift of hunting keeps on giving in more ways then we often notice. Make sure you check out our instagram for other stories and hunting pictures.

08.01.2022 At Hunters and Shooters Society of Australia, we welcome all hunters. Wether it be rifle, bow, dog, life or even a fishing rod, we are all hunters trying to remove pest animals and or come home with a feed.

07.01.2022 With the 3 day lockdown happening in the greater Brisbane area... Now is the time to do some online shopping! Don't forget to use your HSSA10 discount code to get 10% off of Olight products ... https://www.olightstore.com.au/

06.01.2022 We want to ask... R U OK? If the answer is no, remember there are people who can help! https://www.lifeline.org.au/... https://www.beyondblue.org.au/ https://mentalwellbeing.initiatives.qld.gov.au/

06.01.2022 Recently we did a post about hunting having a PR problem. This is the type of thing that makes law abiding and responsible hunters look bad and makes it hard for all of us to enjoy our chosen sport/hobby/passion. You can bet your bottom dollar that this station and others owned by the company will not allow shooters onto their property after this incident. ... This type of behavior should be shun by all law abiding and responsible hunters as it is not only unprofessional and unethical but it is down right criminal. What makes it worse is the hunters are members of a shooting association. This gives the impression to the non shooting public that even members of a shooting or hunting club can't be trusted! I hope whatever shooting club these people belong to (definitely not Hunters and Shooters Society of Australia) cancel their membership and ban them for life, to give a clear message to not only these shooters but any others who would follow in their footsteps that this type of disrespectful behavior is not acceptable.

05.01.2022 KAP firearm policy's. https://www.kap.org.au/firearms/ We understand that different areas have different candidates available to vote for...... We strongly recommend voting in as many pro firearm candidates as possible to help influence better gun laws. This election we are asking everyone to put the majors last!

03.01.2022 Do you know a farmer or other landowner who could use a little extra cash? We are currently building the number of pay to hunt properties we can offer our members. Contact us at [email protected] to find out more.

02.01.2022 Recently we were asked why do we post links to other gun clubs pages? (for example a link to shooters union re voting Labour last and publicly supporting the KAP, or that the SSAA has a new article in SSAA-LA that we appreciate). Well there are 3 reasons, 1) We give credit where credit is due. If someone is in our opinion on the money, then we should post their whole article and give them full credit.... 2) Honestly there are clubs a lot bigger than us who have more resources and experience in lobbying for your gun rights. Why try and step on their toes? I'd rather just support them, if our views are similar. It's about unity! That's why we joined NSC Gunkeeper and encourage all of our members and followers to join them. 3) From the very get go we started HSSA for two reasons. Hunters were not in my opinion getting their needs met particularly in Queensland by the bigger groups, and that we saw a division in the Shooting/hunting community. We want to at the very minimum bring all hunters together wether it be dogs, bow or rifle etc to secure the future of our sport! If we can do the same with all shooters that's even better We are not interested in rubbishing other groups, clubs or organisation as this goes against our idea of bringing all hunters and shooters together and stopping the division that allows for our guns and hunting opportunities disappear one by one. We do not need to see any more of the below signs..

02.01.2022 Do you own rural land? Would you like to earn extra cash? We are looking for land owners, who own rural land (of any legal size for hunting, small blocks close to the city are currently missing from the market), who would welcome hunters onto their property in exchange for cash!... We take the hassle out by doing all the booking and organising. We keep your contact details private so you don't get nusiance calls. And you get all the benefits that come with having our hunters on your land: Firstly all of our hunters are covered by our $20 million dollar public liability insurance. This gives primary producers peace of mind. To add to this peace of mind our hunters are vetted. Before a Hunter can shoot on a hunting property they must complete a shooting accuracy test and a theory test on hunting safety. Then there is the additional income that the hunters pay the primary producers. $300 to $800 a weekend is nothing to be sneezed at! Add this up for roughly 12 weekends a year, and think of what this money could buy! Having hunters on your property not only brings in extra income but it saves money on pest management, destruction and loss of income caused by pest animals. Another benefit to having hunters on your land is a reduction in rural crime such as poaching and trespassing. With hunters being active on your land is like having a security patrol. On large properties hunters also act as an early warning system. They can let you know about damaged fences, dry water troughs and other issues that the primary producer on a large property may not come across for days. Further to this there are benefits for your community with hunters buying supplies from local businesses. Why not sign up now and start earning extra cash?

01.01.2022 Does hunting has a PR problem? Yesterday was my day off from my day job. After doing my chores I decided to watch some Netflix and settled on "Stars in the sky, a hunting story". This program was a documentary on hunting, the ethics behind hunting and why hunters hunt.... It is undoubted that humans are made to hunt. We have binocular vision and canine teeth just like any other predator. However some will argue our ethics should cease us from hunting. I personally have issue with the ethics of a non hunters diet. I believe that a vegans diet in particular kills more animals through habitat destruction, pesticide and agricultural practice than any Hunter ever would. However, it's unseen and falsely eases the concious of the vegan so they can mistakenly sleep better at night... But that's another story. While watching the documentary, there was an interview with a vegan physiologist who stated that "hunting has a PR problem". This statement was followed by a series of short clips of mostly american hunters doing reckless activities. This got me thinking... Does hunting have a PR problem? I understand that we are in a time where being a vegan is trendy and this would have a flow on effect to activities such as hunting. But I thought to my self, it's rare to see protesters wading in water preventing people from fishing like we see in duck season every year! On social media you see posts of people display their fish proudly with little to no recourse however hunters are near the point of no longer posting their success. Both sports focus on locating, killing and then eating an animal in a general sense. Yes there is trophy hunting just as there is trophy fishing. And I know catch and release will be brought up however with the mortality rates of released fish I suspect that's more a feel good exercise for the fisher rather than the fish. So I came to the conclusion that it must be right! Hunting must have a PR problem! But when did it start and how do we fix it? Not so long ago hunters were prized by the community for bringing protein into our diets. In my opinion hunting, fishing and gathering is the most ethical, environmentally friendly and sustainable way of obtaining food. There is no need for Habitat destruction, no waste, take what you need on a daily basis, enough food left for other animals, prey lives happy and free until it is harvested for food. So how can something so natural, honest, environmentally friendly and sustainable gain a bad PR image? This question I will leave rhetorical for you to consider next time you go hunting... Think about the way you hunt and what your actions do to the PR image of hunting. Happy hunting and safe Shooting

01.01.2022 So we have now heard from Queenland Weapons Licencing Branch. We received both promising and unfortunate news. On the promising side all of our policy, procedure and legislation seems up to scratch and is sufficient for our licence. ... The unfortunate news is that the properties we selected to list for our clubs base of operation were not suitable due to size and or shape. This is a little disappointing due to being able to legally hunt on any size of rural land in Queenland and a recommendation of 40 acres for a licence application. However it is only a minor setback and we are already in the process of finishing the paperwork for a larger block! Thank you for your patience and coming on the weapons licencing roller coaster ride with us! We look forward to sharing some good news in the near future

01.01.2022 Credit where credit is due! Shooters union is currently doing a survey of their Queensland members in relation to the service of Queensland Police Weapons Licencing Branch. If you are a shooters union member and live in Queenland, I encourage you to complete the survey and fill it out honestly with all of the good, the bad and the down right ugly!... Hopefully the information contained will assist in shooters union submitting a report and gaining better services for Queenland weapons licence holders. If you are not a shooters union member then consider writing your own submission to the minister of police and our premier. As always happy hunting and safe shooting

01.01.2022 Gel Blaster Association Australia is running a go fund me page to try and keep gel blasters classed as toys in South Australia. I'm not sure why Tasmania just slipped to the way side earlier in the year when their government did similar? https://www.examiner.com.au//no-easy-answers-in-states-to/... I honestly believe that next year the same will happen in Queensland after the government was successfully able to get gel blasters into the weapons act as restricted items (no longer toys). Now more than ever the hunting and shooting community needs unity! Get behind your fellow shooter, clubs, lobbying bodies and pro firearm MPs! Let our collective voice be heard! https://www.gofundme.com/f/gel-blaster-industry-class-actio
