23.01.2022 Our Under 16 Boys Rugby Union team took out the Steve Merrick Cup at Merewether High on last Friday. The boys played five games throughout the day and came out on top against Tomaree High in the final. All students represented Hunter Sports High in great spirit and there were some outstanding skills on show. Congratulations to all involved and a special shout out to Coach Carl Manu for getting the boys in such good shape.

23.01.2022 Year 7 Swim School has been a huge success! For three days of swim school our students have been long distance swimming, diving and recovering objects, rescuing each other using various techniques, learning first aid/CPR procedures, entering and treading water plus undertaking water safety education lessons. And most importantly they have had fun in the beautiful sunshine! Congratulations to all participants.

22.01.2022 Last Friday was White Ribbon Day. To raise awareness of this important social movement our school leaders spoke to students about the global campaign working to eliminate gendered violence as we strive for an Australian society where all women and children are safe. White Ribbon Day engages men and boys to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy and respectful relationships. Students were invited to sign a pledge showing their support for the cause by standing up and speaking out against domestic violence.

22.01.2022 Year 8 Project REAL classes are learning about entrepreneurship this term as part of their '$20 boss' mission and kicked off recently with a live Zoom session with Dr Joss Kesby from the University of Newcastle (UoN) to learn more about his path from student to entrepreneur. Joss’ story was both interesting and motivating for the students, telling of his path from school to the workforce then later attending university where he had the idea to create a small energy efficient and multi-purpose wind turbine. Through his time at UoN Joss was able to develop his idea and now manages his own company that aims to develop the wind turbines for use across Australia and the world. https://www.diffuse-energy.com/ He was enthusiastic about the students' project and looks forward to seeing some of the products or services Year 8 REAL can produce!

21.01.2022 Students in Project REAL this term will be learning about what is required to create a successful enterprise. To begin the unit, students were required to work collaboratively and harness their creativity and innovation skills by creating an eco-conservation tower with limited materials. The aim was to build the highest structure that could support the weight of a marshmallow at the top. The students were highly engaged and approached the problem from many different angles as well as sharing ideas across groups.
