19.01.2022 Today marks 20 years that I have been working as an accountant I commenced full time work as a trainee accountant after finishing high school and completed my degree, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at JCU part time. From there I went on to complete an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning), CPA Program and CPA Public Practice Program and Residential. I established Hunter Taxation Services as my full time business in 2014 and now have 2 staff members working with me.

19.01.2022 Today I spent the day at the ATO Tax Practicitioner Stewardship Group (TPSG) meeting. The TPSG is a stewardship group that focuses on the system in operation and deals with significant issues that are in the national interest, specific to tax practitioners.

18.01.2022 JOBKEEPER PAYMENT The JobKeeper Payment is a subsidy to businesses, which will keep more Australians in jobs through the course of the COVID-19 outbreak. The key elements of the payment are as follows: Employers will receive a payment of $1,500 per fortnight per eligible employee.... Full time and part time employees, including stood down employees, would be eligible to receive the JobKeeper Payment. Where a casual employee has been with their employer for at least the previous 12 months they will also be eligible for the payment. Self-employed individuals are also eligible to receive the payment. The payment will be paid to employers, for up to six months, for each eligible employee that was on their books on 1 March 2020 and is retained or continues to be engaged by that employer. Payments will be made in the first week of May but will be backdated to commence today, 30 March 2020. Payments will be made monthly in arrears from the ATO. Businesses structured through companies, partnerships, trusts, sole traders, not for profit entities, including charities, will be eligible. 13.01.2022 The Government has extended the JobKeeper Payment scheme. Changes from 14 August 2020 mean: more employees can qualify a payment extension to 31 August... new information is available on long-term casual employees Further changes, once legislated, will take effect from 28 September 2020. 11.01.2022 With so many Australians working from home to reduce the risk of coronavirus, the ATO are making it easier to claim your expenses this tax time. From 1 March until 30 June 2020, they're allowing you to claim 80c per hour for each hour you spend working from home. This will cover all your expenses, including your: Heating and cooling Electricity... Mobile phone Internet Depreciation of office equipment You can still use other methods to calculate your claim if you prefer; however, whichever method you choose, youll need to make sure you have records to support your claim. 01.01.2022 The Government has today announced JobKeeper Payment will be extended by 6 months to 28 March 2021. KEY POINTS: JobKeeper will continue to be available to eligible businesses (including eligible business participants) and not-for-profits until 28 March 2021. The fortnightly rate will be reduced from $1,500 to: ... $1,200 from 28 Sep 2020 to 31 Dec 2020 $1,000 from 4 Jan 2021 to 28 March 2021. Lower rates will apply to employees and eligible business participants who work fewer than 20 hours per week: $750 from 28 Sep 2020 to 31 Dec 2020 $650 from 4 Jan 2021 to 28 March 2021. Eligible businesses will have to suffer the requisite decline (no change to percentages) based on actual GST turnover (rather than projected GST turnover) to remain eligible: From 28 Sep 2020 to 3 Jan 2021, based on actual GST turnover in both the June and Sep quarters 2020. From 4 Jan 2021 to 28 March 2021, based on actual GST turnover in each of the June, Sep and Dec quarters 2020.
