24.01.2022 Well the HVFFC started the new year off with an epic day of fly tying with the tie-namic duo Brett Clarke and Cherie Forbes of BWC Flies travelling north to demonstrate some flies utelising some of their newest/latest materials. Thanks so much guys for taking the time out to do some fly tying with the club. Thanks also to Patrick for providing the delicious morning tea and delectable lunch.
22.01.2022 If you haven't watched Brett from BWC Flies tying flies on instagram then do yourself a favour and get on to it. You don't know what you're missing. Thoroughly recomend it regardless of your tying level.
22.01.2022 Worth having a read guys for those that do a bit of rock fishing.
21.01.2022 A good crowd watching some action at Lago Strobel, Argentina at the RISE Film Festival last night at Bero Bowlo hosted by the HVFFC. Nick Reygaert of Gin-Clear Media and his father Marc turned on another top night of fly fishing short films.

13.01.2022 Hunter Valley Fly Fishing Club was with Brett Clarke, BWC Flies and Jason Stratford. Well another day of fly tying with Brett from BWC Flies has come and gone. Brett tied a couple of weed flies both weighted (bomb fly) and un-weighted, the ever reliable Surf Candy in a few different colors as well as a Fleye Foil Candy and a Saltwater Gurgler. With the on-set of the salmon and luderick season members are now well armed to hit the water. Thanks to Mai-Wel for the use of the fa...cilities for the day. Patrick provided lunch for the guys which consisted of home-made pizzas and garlic bread. A big thanks to support worker Rokia for assisting Patrick in the meal prep and cooking. Thanks again to Brett for providing expert tuition and also sharing his knowledge on tying tips as well as rigging and fishing the flies. Thanks to Jason for travelling down and taking a heap of pics too, good to see you again mate. Lastly, thanks to the club members for turning up to participate in a top day, especially those that travelled from afar. See more

09.01.2022 The Hunter Valley Fly Fishing club turned 20 this weekend with close to 50 members and family celebrating this amazing milestone at the club's home waters of Lake St Clair at Singleton. Even the bass got in on the action and were readily landed over the weekend to pass on their well-wishes. Congratulations to all those dedicated members that make this club what it is today.
09.01.2022 The Maggot Fly, from the book Guide to Trout Angling by Rodger Hungerford. I think I'll try these on the mullet and silvers first, then I might see if I can tempt a bream of blackfish too. Tied on a size 12 hook.
08.01.2022 Some flies heading to the williams River on the weekend. Hoping to tempt a bass or 20.
07.01.2022 Maybe not world class flies, but yep that's me.
06.01.2022 Spring is here and summer not far away. Time to carve out a few more balsa wood frog poppers for bass.
03.01.2022 Very interesting....
03.01.2022 G'day peeps, if your finding yourself stuck at home during these hard times here's a few things to keep you going: 1. Clean your gear: Some do, many don't. Now is a good time to go through your gear and fine tune any problems. Clean your rod, especially the runners. Give your reel a good going over. Clean your lines, re-tie butts, leaders and tippets. 2. Read a book: Find that book you've been putting off reading and tuck in. Could be on a particular fly pattern or fish you w...ant to target, or about somewhere you've been wanting to visit. Even if I have already read a book, I will always go back and re-read it, refreshing myself on something I read once before. No hard copies? There are a myriad of ebooks online. 3. Videos: There are videos on fly fishing and fly tying galore. Something to please everyone. With today's technology you can even watch it on your big screen tv. Here are a few suggestions: www.flydreamers.com https://flymenfishingcompany.com Global FlyFisherglobalflyfisher.com https://midcurrent.com 4.Fly Tying: Time to fill the boxes. Tie your favorites or learn to tie something new. There are plenty of step-by-steps or tying videos out there. Have a look around on facebook for fly swap groups and join in for a bit of fun. Share your flies complete with the recipe and tying steps with the rest of us. 5. Casting Practice: We can always benefit from extra casting practice. If you don't have enough room to cast a full size rod you can always purchase online a mini practice casting rod or using the front half of an old two piece rod, tie a short length of old fly line to the tip. 6. Destination: Where is somewhere you have always wanted to go fly fishing? We won't be in lock-down or fighting COVID-19 forever. Plan your next outing, hopefully within Australia to help with our economy.
01.01.2022 A few tweeks on Joe Mahler's single strand mono shrimp. Playing with weights using uv resin and Shrimp & Cray Tails. Adding egg sacks for that extra trigger.
