24.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly.... Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. If you can, it's a good idea to spend some time in an air-conditioned building. For more information please refer to the Beat the Heat website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that shading is provided where possible. Additionally, no animals should be left in confined, unventilated areas. Members of the public should also regularly visit the Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for updated bush fire warnings and information. For updated weather forecasts and warnings visit www.bom.gov.au.
24.01.2022 Child sexual abuse material consists of images, videos and live streamed footage that shows the sexual abuse or sexual exploitation of children. Child sexual ab...use material is obtained and shared in several ways: A predator records their sexual abuse of a child then uploads or shares it online. A predator contacts a child through an app or service on a connected device and tricks or coerces them into producing and sending sexually explicit images and videos of themselves. Predators encourage this through ‘grooming’ the child to trust them, and through manipulation and intimidation. A predator shares images or videos of children ‘stolen’ from social media accounts. The trade in child sexual abuse material online is global and abhorrent. Every time an image or video of a child being abused is shared or distributed, demand is fostered for new and more extreme material. If you know or suspect someone is producing, downloading or sharing child sexual abuse material you can make a confidential report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppers.com.au. Child sexual abuse material can be reported anonymously to the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au/reportillegalcontent.

09.01.2022 In recognition of NAIDOC Week, local community women representing Stronger Sisters visited Muswellbrook Police Station yesterday. They were given a tour by Superintendent Tracy Chapman, Commander of Hunter Valley Police District, and Chief Inspector Guy Guiana, Officer in Charge of Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter. The visit was instigated by the Stronger Sisters and went towards further breaking down barriers between police and the Aboriginal community. This year, NAIDOC Week coincides with Remembrance Day. It's an opportunity to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people who fought along side white service men and women in defense of their country, and in conflicts around the world. We should remember them all.
