23.01.2022 Steve Eccles Update - Hunter Waterkeeper AGM Steve updated the Hunter Waterkeeper committee on local water issues. Since the rains there have been turbidity issues across the head of the catchment. The flushing has increased nutrients in supply, contaminating run off and threatening a blue-green algae outbreak if high temperatures arrive early. Ground water refresh is poor in many areas. Glenbawn Dam remains below 50%.... The Pages River has been targeted for works funded by Local Land Services and Department of Soil Conservation to 1. Eliminate giant reed (people mistake it for bamboo) 2. Install deflection barriers and 3. fund landowners to fence off their riparian zones to deter stock damage to river-banks. There is a risk that if high temperatures begin before summer, Glenbawn Dam is at risk of forming blue/green algae, threatening the water supplies
