12.01.2022 Last week of Dental month!! Dont miss out on your FREE dental check and big savings on pet dental procedures "Emma" came in for treatment of periodontal disease identified during her annual vaccination. ... Her dental disease was sneakily hiding under her gum line and was only identified by dental probing. The "hole" you can see in the bone is called furcation disease, an irreversible condition which, when this advanced required tooth extraction We believe strongly in a pain free experience, so Emma received full local nerve blocks to both sides of her face prior to tooth extraction as well as some strong pain medications She ran home happily same day and will be much happier without those sore teeth Her owner saved several hundred dollars by getting the procedure performed during dental month
12.01.2022 This old fella is feeling a lot better after his owner reported bad breath and head shy-ness despite still eating with no obvious difficulty His owner got brave enough to anaesthetise her old dog who suffers bad heart disease to fix up some severe periodontal disease Luckily we use some great nerve blocks to limit the pain of such a major dental procedure.... I cant wait to see this patient back when he is all healed. Keep ur eyes peeled for our updates!

10.01.2022 Cats dont like brushing their teeth! Because of their stubborness they get problems Todays post for cat owners is this common, painful disease seen every week at Huntingdale Vets. Read on cat owners... A condition known as a tooth resorption erodes and eventually irreparably destroys cats teeth . Over time, all areas of an affected tooth, from root to crown, may become involved. Tooth resorption is a common condition, affecting an estimated 20 percent to 60 percent of all cats and close to three-quarters of those five years of age and older. The true cause is unknown though theories exist Most commonly cat owners will not notice anything. Some cats may only eat soft or tinned foods or may stop grooming. Owners may notice their coats looking unkempt The best way to think of Tooth Resorption is like a big cavity in a cats tooth that get bigger and more painful until it breaks the tooth off! Extraction is the only treatment currently available Getting your cat a regular Dental Exam by a veterinarian is often the only time this disease is identified

09.01.2022 Little "Mochi" came in for routine castration last week and was found to have lots of extra teeth- Supernumerary teeth His adult incisors had come through but his deciduous " baby" teeth had decided they wanted to stay. Mochi was lucky his dad had decided for the rapid recovery desexing, he received a pre-anaesthetic blood test, IV fluids as well as intradermal sutures and most importantly extra pain relief ... The retained incisors were extracted and he spent the afternoon getting cuddled by the staff near the heater.

08.01.2022 To follow on from yesterdays tooth extraction post SOLUTION: Retained deciduous (baby) lower canine tooth with an unerupted adult tooth ... "Katie" the 3 year old female pomeranian is a new patient of Huntingdale Vet. "Katies" previous vets sadly had not identified this very common tooth problem. Often retained canines are diagnosed by vets at their desexing and removed as part of their desexing procedure. We extracted the retained baby tooth and it was decided not to remove the unerupted adult canine due to its location in the jaw. There are minimal risks to this approach. We also cleaned the tartar from her teeth to prevent periodontal disease from developing. Katie recovered quickly and is looking majestic
