25.01.2022 Recently we had a visit from Senator the Hon. Eric Abetz, Liberal Senator for Tasmania. He was very impressed by the project and supplied the Media release below. Thank you for your interest and support Senator. SENATOR THE HON. ERIC ABETZ LIBERAL SENATOR FOR TASMANIA... MEDIA RELEASE 17 September 2020 Flash Packers nearing completion After a long-haul Flash Packers Accommodation is nearing competition just in time for the summer. Designed to primarily support the 4000 seasonal workers who call the Huon Valley home each year the facilities also suit holidaymakers with a number of private ensuite rooms together with the shared dormitory rooms. In a first for the Huon Valley it will include a designated disability room with disability access to the shared kitchen/BBQ and amenities facilities. Recreation facilities will include half court tennis and basketball courts and an 8-ball table in the recreation room. After the closure of the Huon Valley and Geeveston Visitor Centres, Flash Packers will now run a visitor centre promoting local produce and attractions. Flash Packers will run a shuttle bus to nearby Huonville boosting local businesses and for transporting the seasonal workers to and from local farms. In a tour of the site and facilities, local Liberal Senator Eric Abetz congratulated the Jackman family for their foresight in filling a void in the market and for great perseverance in overcoming obstacles on the way. I can see Flash Packers being a great success and will be an economic boost for the many attractions that the Huon Valley possesses, said Senator

24.01.2022 Update: Wow What an amazing response to this post! Thank you all for your contributions. It is such a shame that we are not able to use all of the suggestions. There truly are some worthy nominations that have been put forward. Now it's time to make some very tough decisions! Watch this space for an announcement soon! Who are our Huon Valley Legends? We're planning on naming each of our 14 units after people who have been a big influence in our community over the years an...d are asking for your suggestions. I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting Mrs. Nonie Carr who was a massively active community member of Franklin for most of her adult life. Many of you will remember the awesome Christmas pageants travelling from the Huonville Esplanade to Franklin for many years. Hit us up with your suggestions See more
